My Ram 1500 truck ran out of battery and I took it to the nearest auto care. The battery was changed and the retractable steps would not work. They did not know what to do. Asked me to drive the truck for a day to see if anything changed. Went home and found your post. It worked!! Thank you so much...

THANK YOU!!! We have a 2021 RAM 3500 Laramie and my hubby was working on the dash installing a bunch of wiring for AUX buttons yesterday. He had the Drivers side door open, therefore that step was deployed and would NOT retract! He left it overnight, he was looking into the wiring this morning... and asked me to see if I could find anything on KZbin. *The biggest problem was finding the right terminology!* I told him what you said to do and 1-2-3! It's fixed! I'm 62 years old, with bad knees! I can't get up and down into that big truck easily without these steps or a stepstool! Your video is AWESOME! THANK YOU so very much!

Everyone driving a GMC with this problem. I did the fuse thing, didn't work. Look through the internet. No solution. What worked for me was to unplug the module beneath the steering wheel. I then opened all the doors on the truck. Then I turned it power on. Didn't have to turn the engine over. Then plugged the module back in. Then closed all of the doors. And it worked.

I also encountered this problem on my 13 Silverado 1500. The boards were stuck down on the driver's side after disconnecting my battery too many times trying to resolve an unrelated issue. Searching for a solution led me to this video and ultimately to your comments about disconnecting the module, removing the AMP fuse, and opening all 4 doors. Removing the harness directly from the motor of the running board on the drivers side, disconnecting the AMP fuse and opening all 4 doors did the trick for me. The boards on the driver side went back up once connecting everything back and closing the doors. If the boards don't go back down when opening the doors, repeat the steps of removing the harness directly from the motor of the running board on the drivers side, disconnecting the AMP fuse, and opening all doors. Thank you everyone for these suggestions.

I had seen the 30 amp inline fuse and recognized it in your video. Everything thing worked immediately after taking it out and putting it back. I have a 2006 Duramax and the boards are 16 yrs old. Replaced the batteries before and never had a problem with the boards before. I tried the fuse removal and it worked for 6 deployments and no more. Thought about it for a day and next try I opened all four doors and removed the fuse (still good) and waited 5 minutes to reset and bingo it worked! The boards came down and have worked since. I had a similar experience with the boards working randomly and replaced the module and that fixed that problem. Good luck if this happens. Easy fix.

Of course, he had NEVER seen or HEARD of this before even though testing batteries is like his daily job. His last words were, "I guess now you have two reasons to take the truck to the dealership." Jeez. Removing and putting back in the fuse like you said was the fix.

Thank You This fix worked on my 2017 F-150. There's a story concerning how this happened to my truck and what some dealership service departments may be like I'm adding as a reply to this comment.
@OpinionatedBastage2 жыл бұрын
Sadly, I took my truck to a Ford dealership with an incompetent service department. I've been a backyard mechanic my whole adult life. But, now I'm a truck driver living in my Freightliner, so I don't have an appropriate place to do a repair like that. I wanted it in the hands of someone I felt I could trust, so I chose to pay the higher price a dealership will charge. I tell them I want them to replace the water pump and gasket and the two belts I believed they'd be removing anyway. The service writer needed info from the mechanic to give me an estimate. That was a bit of a red flag, but I let it slide. The service writer says they'll need the truck for two to three days, so I dropped it off Sunday night to satisfy a Monday, 7 AM appointment. On Tuesday I contact the service writer for an ETA update. He says Saturday. I was expecting my truck back by Wednesday, this guy's telling me Saturday. To make matters worse, without finding anything else wrong with my truck, he hikes up the estimate by $300. He says, after speaking to the mechanic, they always change the thermostat when doing a water pump. That certainly makes sense, but I have two problems with that. First, I had told him I already had a new thermostat and gasket and I was going to replace that myself. Second, he had a mechanic help with the original estimate. I should have been told this at that time. In addition he tells me one of the belts requires either removal or adjustment of the tensioner and this would add to labor costs. Now, I'm pretty sure both belts need to be removed to replace the water pump, so additional labor shouldn't be required. Granted, I could be wrong about the need to remove both belts. Regardless, this is another thing I should have been told during the original estimate. His excuse was that the mechanic thought he had only mentioned the one belt. I pointed out to him that still doesn't explain why the need to replace the thermostat was overlooked. On the issue of my AMP running boards I'd expect a good and experienced mechanic to anticipate this problem and know the simple solution. More importantly, the fact it wasn't pointed out to me is suspect. An attentive mechanic would notice the running boards weren't working properly after his/her work was complete. Either the mechanic is very inattentive or, just as likely, the problem was noticed and not mentioned to me. The bottom line is that Sunrise Ford in Fontana, CA has a service department which is incompetent and knows nothing of customer service. These losers will never see my truck again other than tomorrow when I give their service manager a piece of my mind.

Thanks for this! I would not have thought to try this had I not found your tip. I'll add that the fuse did not want to come out easily so I pulled the wire harness plug from the Amp Research box under the hood and reconnected it. Got my power steps working again immediately. This was after replacing my starter battery. Perhaps this situation is caused by whatever order you connect the new battery. I did positive first and my steps refused to operate afterwards until the reset trick.

Hey man, thanks for posting this video. When my AMP power step wouldn't work after I recharged my dead battery, I had thought it was that 30 A fuse. When I found it wasn't blown, I figured I might have to reset my OBDII port. But yeah, just reinstalling the fuse worked for me as well. Just odd that I had to reset the AMP system that way this time, because when I had previously disconnected the battery to install offroad lights, it worked just fine after reconnecting the battery.
