The PMM-2 is a military amphibious floating rapid bridge and transfer vehicle from Soviet. The PMM-2 was developed on the basis of the chain-driven swimming car PTS-2 . This is a modified version of the MT-T chassis, which uses various components of the T-64 tank. In the driving position, the two hinged pontoons are folded on top of each other on the vehicle. Several PMM-2s can operate coupled or individually. It is propelled in the water by means of two propellers. Every PMM-2 ferry has folding loading ramps so that loading and unloading is possible from both sides. The driver's cab is armored against 7.62 mm projectiles and is unarmed. In the improved version PMM-2M, the nominal load capacity of the ferry was increased by 2.5 tons in order to cope with the increasing weight of the main battle tanks of the 1970s and 1980s. The capacity reserve of the ferry was minimized by this value. As part of the Russian military operation in Syria , the Russian army built a pontoon bridge from PMM-2M ferries across the Euphrates in September 2017 . The 210 meter long bridge near Deir ez-Zor has a capacity of up to 8,000 vehicles per day.
Паромно-мостовая машина ПММ-2 создавалась во второй половине семидесятых годов в конструкторском бюро Е. Е. Ленциуса и была призвана заменить гусеничный паром ГСП. Модернизированный вариант машины под индексом ПММ- 2М имеет увеличенную на 2,5 тонны грузоподъемность (практически без запаса плавучести, что крайне опасно). ПММ-2М - боевая машина инженерных войск (паромно-мостовая машина) ВС Союза ССР. Паромно-мостовая машина ПММ-2М предназначена для переправы через водные преграды танков, самоходных артиллерийских установок и другого вооружения и военной техники, выполненной на базе танка. Паром состоит из гусеничного плавающего транспортёра с водонепроницаемым корпусом палубной конструкции, соединенных с корпусом шарнирно двух дополнительных понтонов с аппарелями, стыковочными устройствами и проезжими частями. В рамках военной операции России в Сирии в сентябре 2017 года российская армия построила понтонный мост (ПММ-2М) через Евфрат. Мост длиной 210 метров возле Дейр-эз-Зора имеет пропускную способность до 8000 автомобилей в день.
