you sir are an excellent fabricator. this kind of vehicle has always intrigued me but I have never had time to go building one. drive system will be interesting with the screw moving independent of the frame

That is so sweet! Love the ingenuity and look forward to each post. Been watching you from almost the start. Keep it up! Good Clean fun!

Nice work on the suspension. I initially couldn't see how you were going to avoid over-constraining it with the front and rear axles tied together by the screws, but using the screws as two links of a four link suspension is some good thinking!

+cucumbersonfire yeah i really think the design is fairly sound. Its just a matter of if its going to end up strong enough.

I admit, i had a few reservations regarding the suspension, at the front mainly, i figured that the rear would tie in with it somehow, but now, seeing it, well, complete turnaround, this is a really nice design. Once you fiddle with the front to make it proper, this is going to rock.

+aserta thanks! Yeah it kinda just became clear to me one day, it will be interesting to see if it rips itself in half once i put power to it hehe

Well you coming right along I see...Your propensity for inventing new words may be a craftier skill than the gizmos you come up with😁 Im curious to see what the weak link in the system turns out to be after your motorized and put everything under actually working load. Its just part of the creative process but it looks like its coming together nicely and you've tried to eliminate most of the obvious gremlins. Will the buoyancy of the screws be able to make you fully amphibious after you've got it together? Might be a possibility if you start designing in allowances now for weight saving and balance? Could be a nice benefit for crossing frozen streams or swamp if the ice can't support the weight. I wish you best of luck and may the force be with you! Can't wait to see what's next!

yes i do plan on making it float, there are certain areas that have to be strong no matter what though.... soon i will get into crunching some numbers on that stuff to see where i stand. thanks for checkin it out! and the input

Hi Great job and a lot of fu to watch Your project. One concern about suspension- in the vid there seems to be a lot of flex on front screw bearing. The front "brigde" that connects both screws rocks back and forth- how are the screw axle bearings handling it?
@REDNIC79
@REDNIC79 8 жыл бұрын
+famkot thanks, yeah they do flex quite a bit. They are pillow block bearings that do swivelmin their mount, and the swivel action has grease fittings. Hard to say how fast they will wear out. Not sure of other options, you?
@famkot394
@famkot394 8 жыл бұрын
REDNIC79 thanks for your explanation, i thought these were standard bearings that shouldn't flex. Great job!

I've been scanning the comments and haven't seen anyone mention that you should switch to plastic screws for light weight and float ability. Not sure how they would be made but they would be far lighter than those tanks. 😊
@REDNIC79
@REDNIC79 8 жыл бұрын
any ideas? plastic barrels? would the fins be steel?
@RandallBoley
@RandallBoley 8 жыл бұрын
REDNIC79 Plastic barrels are common and cheap, large plastic pipe is expensive. The most common size of plastic barrel is 55 gallon and I think that's too big. 30 gallon would be better. You might have to learn plastic welding to modify them but I think it's not hard. The auger portion... Maybe weld on pieces from barrels or maybe bolted on metal? Either way it would need to be sealed to float. Those tanks will probably float but I believe it will sit quite low in the water.

REDNIC79 sewage pipe comes very large durable. somthing to look into. maybe bolt thin cut sections of rubber car tire as the fin.. just an idea..
@carpenterrick186
@carpenterrick186 8 жыл бұрын
some are plastic/poly and some are metal. either way would work

Are you making this chain driven in the back? if so do you think the chain twist will be ok?
@REDNIC79
@REDNIC79 8 жыл бұрын
+marinepoof no, straight hydraulic drive, the drive motors will have to flex with the screws
@fritzkuhne2055

this will be interesting! have you also considered electric engines on both screws`?
@L.Parisi

Still...to me the threads seems too thin, so you will have all surface of cylinders sliding on ground and creating more friction...

A wishbone from a Model T Ford would have worked (less fabrication). Subscribing I think you should look at how a zero turn mower is driven and use that. It will give you greater torque and allow you to use the screw drive like the historical videos.
