The first concert I ever went to was Kiss on their “Rock and Roll Over” tour. They had this unknown little band called AC/DC as their opening act! They were MUCH BETTER than Kiss, even without all the special effects and theatrics! They blew me away!!! I’ll never forget forget Angus carrying Bon on his back, going through the audience! Excellent point. KISS is probably The Best marketed band of all time, and they're a Blast In Concert. However, they aren't near the musician's ACDC is. Gene (adequate musician, but Genius Marketer)Simmons himself has always taunted the great show's they put on, but not necessarily the actual band itself is. Behind closed doors GS would be the 1st to agree with us, you might not even have to close the doors......

Highway to Hell put them on the map because of the iconic title track but I believe as a whole that the Powerage album is a far superior album and is sadly to this day one of the most underrated albums ever created. I think it is the so to speak Back in Black of the Bon Scott era. It's loaded with gems and sprinkled with semi precious (but still desirable) stones. I've always liked the sound of Brian's voice better (Scott was superior in writing lyrics) but Scott's voice was the perfect fit for the Powerage album and nobody can match him on it. I do believe Scotts fingerprints are on the BIB album but whether it's true or not Johnson was the unparalleled fit to sing that album. Sadly, it's so close to the time that the world will speak of AC/DC in past tense. I really stress the sadly part because I've never idolized any celebrity including any that make up AC/DC but when Malcom died along with myself being 40 and enjoying their music for the past 35 of those years, I would be lying if I said that I didn't feel like a part of my life/me has died as well. Don't let anyone bullshit you. Getting old sucks.

I'm a good judge of the energy & music that rock bands have created & performed in history, intently listening to their sound and amplified vocals & instruments, wether recorded in a studio or live on stage..the bottom line is, in the world of rock bands comparing to each other, since the late 50s.. there is no other band that could find or produce the raunchy, mean, energetic rock sound that ACDC had with 5 band members, lighting the world on fire with their paramount blast of explosive energy. The powerful rythyms & lead guitar sounds of the Young brothers, their thumping base, the scratchy tenor voices of both Bon & Brian in their tenures, and the beat of their drums in tempo & their hellish raunchy lyrics. The Best! There is no other band!

Just got back a couple of months ago from vacation and Nassau was one of the spots...I contacted the owner of the Studio Cafe which is what Compass Point studios has turned into, among other businesses. He was so cool...we emailed back and forth a few months prior and he agreed to show me around. Needless to say all the equipment and everything has been gone since 2016 I believe but it was still so cool to walk on the grounds and through the buildings where so many classic records were recorded...Back in Black..Powerslave...just 2 name a couple. Also lucked out with our taxi driver Benjamin...turned out he was a session musician that recorded at Compass Point many times. We invited him to join us for the tour and some lunch at the Studio Cafe and he was able to tell us what building and rooms were what back in the day. Such an amazing experience!!

My first album like this was Appetite For Destruction. As a kid, GNR knocked me on my ass. My uncle has the AC/DC album & a lot of Who, so I was familiar with them but I was pretty young. Appetite For Destruction came out at the perfect age for me because I had my own band. I liked AC/DC but they were more my uncle's band. I rediscovered AC/DC in the 90s in high school and through the early 2000s and finally really got how great they were. I think I needed to mature to an age where their lyrics really hit with the vocals and riffs. Soundgarden, Faith No More, Audioslave, all had excellent vocals, guitar riffs, powerful singers, and made music I could genuinely relate to. Audioslave was the last rock band to put together legit tunes from across the eras that was hard but perfectly executed, and difficult. Other bands after the 90s grunge era are really just tame and lame studio products. It's not legit hard rock from legit rockers. You have pussies like Maroon 5 and Coldplay trying to pose like they are in this category. They are tame rock, like radio pop rock. They're not hard and gritty. Nickleback, Creed, My Chemical Romance, weak. System of a Down are pretty legit but are more metal, but the rock of AC/DCs era pretty much died out with Audioslave. Kids these days try to copy the sounds here and there with a riff using the same guitars, but it's not the same. Kings of Leon is a good example. Good band, but they're not hard rock and the same grunting and screaming manly way that real rockers are. Even Steven Tyler is gonna outrock these kids, and he's old asf.

I remember when the highly anticipated Back in Black came out like it was yesterday. I got to know Bon Scott ACDC very well in the years leading up to the Brian Johnson era. My hoodlum teenage buddies and I listened to their music well before Highway to Hell came out. We partied to their music and we fought to their music. When Back in Black came out, half of my friends thought Johnson sounded exactly like Scott, but I didn't think the music or singing sounded anything like Bon era ACDC. In fact, It took me a while to embrace the new music. Hells Bells and For Those About to Rock were the two songs responsible for drawing me in. I still love both era's of ACDC, probably more than any other band. I never get tired of their music. I bought tickets to their 2025 show in Chicago to help give them the final sendoff they deserve.

1:36:39 " The song(Night prowler) was alledgedly written about the serial killer Richard Ramirez. Known as the night prowler. Whom, when was finally caught, was wearing an AC/DC-T-shirt. Bon allways maintained otherwise." BOLLOCKS!!! It was the other way around. Night prowler was recorded in 1979. Bon died in 1980. "The night STALKER", Richard Ramirez started his killing spree in about 1984, and was caught in August 1985. He was wearing an AC/DC T-shirt though, and there were speculations in papers on wether Ramirez was inspired by the song.

I could watch Acca Dacca forever. Such an entertaining band. My heart is with Bon because that is when I became a diehard fan. He was a bloody hero to me in all of his okka rawness. BUT I'm sick of people putting Brian down. You can't change history. If you could, my God I would have taken Bon home that night, been in the pool with Brian Jones, called the police on the arsehole who does not deserve a name, for having a gun and kicked John's murderer in the teensy balls before he could cowardly pull out his gun at the entrance of the Dakota, ... If only I could time travel. Anyway, unfair to compare Bon and Brian. You can't compare. Let's just be grateful we had them both. Can we please?

The narrator is completely wrong about "Night Prowler". That song was not written about the serial killer, who was apparently an AC/DC fan but his crimes were committed 5 years AFTER Highway To Hell was released. So unless he was the world's first time travelling murderer it would have been impossible for the band to have based that song on his activities. Also, Malcolm Dome has an odd way of interpreting "Shake A Leg". The most common meaning of the phrase in England during that period (especially amongst working class people like Brian) was to "get down and have a good time" or "let loose and have a party". Alternately it was used to mean "hurry up", as in "Shake a leg, we're going to be late". And just by looking at the song's lyrics, Dome's theory about shaking a certain other part of the body makes no sense within the context of the song.

People who are worried about Linking Park getting a new singer because the old one died should remember that AC/DC was faced with the same desicion and they got through it, I'm very sure Linking Park will get through it and regain fans back as well as new ones.

Many times when your fiinal cuts go into editing and mix ,they add beefer sounds or studio musicians to add what the engineer and producers think what might add to your work. They are not always right. You may not know until you hear the actual vinyl at that time. Then you may have to learn how to play the album as pressed to play live.

You’ve done very well to make a documentary out of this. The only person connected to the band is their studio engineer for the album. Malcolm Dome was a respected journalist, who at least knew Bon socially. But using an AC/DC tribute band as your main commentators? Genius. They should know what the band had to do, because they play the songs. But they didn’t write them!

There's a big lie towards the end regarding the Night Stalker Richard Ramirez. Those killings happened a few years later in the early '80s, Bon was already gone, he never wrote "Night Prowler" in 1979 about Ramirez or denied it. It's the other way around. Ramirez was inspired by the "Night Prowler" song and left an AC/DC cap at the crime scene. The band (with Brian, not Bon) denied any Satanic message or connection.

I read somewhere that Marc Storace was actually offered the gig, but turned it down for fear of always being compared to Bonn. I don’t know how true this is..but if so, it seems like a bad call. Although Krokus was great, AC/DC are generational.

My two fav songs off back in black are given the dog a bone and have a drink on me and in my opinion, these two songs could easily have been written by Bon...they are totally Bons style I believe...I often wonder how many of the songs off back in black that Bon actually did have a hand in writing..but it doesnt matter really,I think Bon would be smiling to know how far the boys along with Brian took the band...and I believe Bon would have said they couldnt have picked a better guy to take his place as Brian is a great guy as was Bon...

How it's even a question of Bon's involvement in BIB is baffling. The drop-off in quality after BIB is staggering. They never came close to reaching the heights they did with Bon. You get one album recorded within a couple of months of his death then nothing. Sure the odd song here and there but the band was effectively over as a compelling and top of the line songwriting trio.

This is pretty cool. But there is so much overthinking in the story of this record from the talking heads of this..especially the explanation of the lyrics, which is totally ridiculous. Here is what I remember: we were bummed when Bon Scott died, and was amazed at Brian Johnson and the Back In Black album when it came out. It ruled. It was all anyone talked about. A few months later, they became huge. That is what I remember as a old dude looking back. It’s still an amazing album to this very day. Hasn’t dated at all.

I hear a lot of people say Brian sounds just like Bon. Honestly, maybe I just have a more keen ear, I dunno, but I don't think they sound anything alike. Both are amazing rock n roll singers and I don't have a favorite really, but I don't understand how anyone can hear one and then the other and think they sound the same. Bon has a drier voice, more mid range and less scream. Brian's vocals are like a pissed off banshee, lots of high end and demonic squealing.
@tomfabozzi5353

Brian had a higher range and sang with a lot more vocal fry/grit in his voice than Bon. Even by 83 he was struggling to hit the notes he’d done on record. And his voice is f***ed now- no power, except at the bottom end, and no range. I’ve heard innumerable clips of Bon live and he never sounded like he couldn’t hit his notes. Sometimes he had to scream a bit to get them, but he sang within his range. Then again, we never got the chance to hear Bon sing in his 60s, and with his lifestyle, God only knows what his voice would’ve sounded like!

The best music often comes at the start, that is where the energy comes from and that is what you are hearing in this album. Strangely their best. I heard Angus thinks so. For me, Back in Black and Dirty Deeds (Australian version), iconic examples of both singers.
