I think all amputees need training in this. It makes life a lot easier knowing how to adjust your own leg. Thank you!!!

Oh my goodness! If I was there, I would give you THE BIGGEST HUG IMAGINABLE!!!! I was recently given an ottobock permanent leg for my everyday use but it would NEVER work correctly! :(:(:( I got so frustrated with it that I was DETERMINED to put my old temporary leg back together. Well, I was successful but I noticed that it was hurting the more I cannot walked and I needed to adjust it. I am currently subscribed to your channel so I did a search to see if by chance you had something similar to what I needed and sure enough, you did! :):):) I took your previous advice and adjusted it similar to how my other leg walked and when I wear it now, it feel SOOOOO much better! My hats off to you for being such an amazing woman!!! I am going to go because I am starting to cry. :) Thank you VERY much! :):):):)

I've watched most of your vids over the last few days. I'm not an amputee nor do I have an injury or condition that will eventually cause me to be an amputee, but I just wanted to comment on how inspiring and educational your videos are. This is such a lifestyle change and would obviously be incredibly emotional and physically trying on most individuals. Thanks for shedding light on the subject and bringing so much informative views on amputees; judging on the comments it seems like a lot of other amputees value your information and inspiration, but just so you know the rest of us do too :)

Thank you for the help!!! I am an above the knee amputee in a c-leg after having my 3rd amputation (revision surgery), and the stupid technician's are treating me as a textbook case so the alignment does NOT feel as if it is in alignment and I refuse to walk in something that hurts me. So thank you for helping me understand what the difference of the lock screws are. My prosthetic doctor's are literally like 2 hrs away and they take for ever to get me in so this helps alot. Hopefully I can adjust this and get my life and health back. You are the best. AGAIN THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH!!!

I raise and train quarter horses and do horse shoeing. The alignment of the leg and foot break over all coincides with shoeing a horse as well, same principle. Watching your video's brought that to my attention and that helped me deal with my prosthesis (right leg AKA). Your video's have been more informative and easy to understand than any other resource. Keep them coming. Many Thanks....

I have been a bk amputee for 17 years now and I always go to your videos before I make an appt for an adjustment. My problem is no matter how many times I get it adjusted or get a new socket it always falls back to my knee. Every time in the same place and makes me feel like my knee socket is out of place and i get blisters on top then it peels. I have had the Erytle procedure so when I have pain or rather feel pain its way to late and is excruciatingly painful.can you suggest anything. Thanks in advance.

I like your videos, you give good info. Just got my second socket today and the foot is all wrong. Thanks for making your info videos. My prosthetic is a little different than the one you have, got a locking pin that locks down at the bottom plus have 8 different adjustment screws. Thanks again.
@gunzmith29r3 жыл бұрын
mine is just like that but it hurts my knee if i adjust it perfectly straight so i guess everyone has to adjust them a little different.....i leave the top four screws adjusted straight and adjust the forward and sideways with the bottom four screws like she does which helps...everyones is aligned a little different .and the orthopedics dont want to let you in on their knowledge cause you wont need them anymore.

Dear AMPOT, I had my left leg (below the knee) amputated three days before Christmas last year 12/22/14, received my first prosthetic leg on 2/12/15, and I'm getting better with it every day; however, my left leg is about 1/2 inch shorter than my right so I would like to lengthen it by about 3/8 inches. I tried to do it myself, but I couldn't figure out which of the three collars (above my shoe) is the right one. I tried each of them, but none seemed to help me. So I got online and found your site for the first time. All of your videos that I watched were excellent and very helpful but I haven't found one on making your prosthesis longer, I'm sure you have one on this issue, would you be so kind to share it with me (and the rest of the world)? Thank you so much and please keep the helpful videos coming. Your AmputeeOT follower, Kelly

Try wearing 3 ply on 1 and 5 ply sock on other. Or wear a winter wool sock under a regular sock on the short foot. Or put a cheap insert or 2 inside the shoe of the short leg. All these work.

Hi, I've watched a few of your videos and I wanted to ask a question. I'm 20 years old and I have a clubfoot. Though I had corrective surgery at 9 months old, it has very little movement in the ankle and hurts from already having arthritis. I'm at a point where I limp daily and running any real distance means It'll hurt far worse for at least a day after. I wanted to know if you think a mid calf amputation is something I should go for. I'd like to fix this issue early in life as I limp so often my back is almost constantly out of alignment and my knee and hip are on the path to degradation as well. And I worry these problems foreshadow my golden years involving a lot of pain and disability checks. Is it worth being rid of it electively?

You need to compare the heels of the 2 different shoes. Your trainers probably have a high heel. So when wearing dress shoe you need raise the toes end of your prosthetic foot/drop the heel. Hope this helps?

Hi, Christina. For me it was a mystery how to configure the alignment of the prosthesis. According to the prosthetist who treats me, he (and only he) is the only one who can do it. Do you know if the height of the prosthesis is configurable? Greetings from Chile!

+emf1111 I know it's a year later but I figured I'd answer anyway. Loctite can be purchased at any hardware store, and often in the supermarket in the utility isle. Loctite threadlocker 242 is a good one to go with. You can purchase this online. Amazon carries it, and various other stores.

Thank you. I am an amputee also. Mine is below knee right leg. The amputation was don in March 16, 2017. Unfortunately, I had to go to 4 different professional and none could fix it right. My legs moves from the bottom because they been overlooking the over sized foot which was given to me. I can't walk and move with stability. Technicians been playing only with screwing variously. Also, sockets they been making do not fit me well. They got gaps and only tight by the knee area. That gives me pain. I am lost here. Contractors seemed very dishonests who cated for making money only. How ever, I will go to your Facebook timeline and update you with issues. Bye now.

NOOOOO!!! You should NOT be showing people how to adjust their own legs!!! This is the job of a PROSTHETIST!!!! There is a reason they set legs up the way they do! Sometimes people shouldn't HAVE their leg set up the way they "think it should look"!!!! The angles that the highly trained clinicians set your prosethesis at are chosen for specific reasons! I'm not saying they get it right all the time, but that's when you go talk to your clinician again or seek a second opinion from another clinician. If someone wants to be doing their own adjustments they need to be given the ok by their clinician and taught what to do BY THEM! Videos like this are going to lead people who shouldn't be doing this kind of thing to developing ulcers, gait deviations and cause their prosthetists HUGE headaches! Do you understand that the main reasons for amputation are diabetes and vascular disease?? People who are compromised in those ways NEED professional assistance! Please consider these things when you post your videos.
