I've been wearing a A/K prosthetic leg for 55 years. My first was wood made with wood pulling tools. It was a total contact suction socket. Gain or lose a few pounds with a total contact socket can rub up a monster blister shortly. Now I wear a molded socket with a liner, vacuum pump and a computer controlled knee unit. The best shoe I've found is made by SAS and works great with the computerized knee. I've only been able to run once and that was when police were kicking in the front door and I ran out the back door. Good luck finding a great Prosthesist. I use Mississippi Othotics in Tupelo, Ms.

Late commentator here who used to watch your videos once upon a time until I started commenting on KZbin in general for a few months. I work in a grocery store where one of my duties is to retrieve the carts which includes those rechargeable riders. It is annoying that there are some people who do return them but never properly park them nor plug them in. When I do come across one or a few out in the parking lot or on the sidewalk where the battery does die out, it's extremely difficult to lug back. The only time I personally used one for my own shopping on days-off was when I sprained an ankle: I probably stepped off the sidewalk wrong one shift collecting regular carts. Took about a month to recover although no brace nor boot. So I was assigned kind of as a greeter at an entrance for the time being. All from before Thanksgiving to before Christmas.

Thanks for giving the information I am a year into the prosthetic learning. It's difficult to self educate when you don't know what all the questions are.

Be carefull using anything on the back of the chair. If they are loaded just a bit one can push like they normally do but due to the extra weight, the chair can start to flip over backwatds. Dont ask me how i know.

I know this is old, but for anyone seeing this now I suggest shower shoes. They can help with a number of leg and balance issues, not to mention just basic safety for everyone.

I'm a fellow amputee and I'd love to actually work in the field one day and have actually helped in the making of a test socket for my BKA but mine is the right side. I watched a lot of your videos in 2018 when I first lost my foot and I share ur videos to others that have questions about the whole process

I have had a lower leg amputation but after 3 months of rehab( 2 sessions a week) I can hop between parallel bars whilst holding on. I seem to lack strength to balance. I am considering an iwalk crutch in the short term. The consultant says I am not a suitable candidate for a prosthetic. Can you suggest a way forward for me to balance and hop without support

Although it's been 11 years since this video was posted, the timing on it, for me, is just perfect. I'm scheduled to get my new test prosthesis tomorrow morning and I'm really quite excited and a bit nervous. I haven't walked in four months, and my balance has never been great. I'm hoping that 60 years of prior history helps me at least a little. 🙂

Guys, I was in gymnastics and my couch during warmups had one exercise that I believe will help a lot. Sit on a floor, watch a movie and “walk” on your butt back and forward. Keep repeating and you will feel how many muscles involved in this exercise! Help with your upper body. My mom is senior, can’t use prosthetic due to wounds and gaining weight 😢 the only exercise I could think for her and I am sharing. Our doc was stunned with idea and told that he will share it w/patients. Sincerely hope it will be included in your routine.

When I got my first x3 and went on vacation to the keys . I went into the ocean and swam around for a bit . When I came out I noticed it to was beeping and vibrating , but I could still walk on it fine. I call my leg guy and told him what was going on and he was going to fly me a replacement to Miami to go get , but since it was working ok other than the beeping and vibrating I declined. Story short, when he put the pylon up into the knee itself he pinched one on the wires and cut the insulation creating a short.

Great to see you showing that above knee amputees CAN wear heels! Sadly, a lot of prosthetists tell women that they should wear flats, but that's not what the feminine woman wants to hear! Yes, it takes practice and is more difficult than wearing flats, but just persevere and you can do it. We had ladies who were wearing heels with the old metal exoskeletal legs in the 1960s and technology has moved on a heck of a long way since then!
