AMRITSARI SOOKHI URAD DAL
Preparation time : 15 minutes
Cooking time : 15-20 minutes
Servings : 2
Ingredients
2 tbsp Mustard Oil (सरसों का तेल)
1 tsp Cumin Seeds (जीरा)
1 medium Onion - chopped (प्याज़)
½ tsp Degi Red Chilli Powder (देगी लाल मिर्च पाउडर)
½ tsp Turmeric Powder (हल्दी पाउडर)
2-3 fresh Green Chillies - chopped (हरी मिर्च)
1 medium Tomato - chopped (टमाटर)
Water (पानी)
1½ cup Split Black Gram - soaked (उड़द दाल)
Salt to taste (नमक स्वादानुसार)
1 tsp Cumin Seeds - roasted (जीरा)
2 tbsp Coriander Leaves - chopped (धनिया के पत्ते)
Process
In a pan heat mustard oil, and add cumin seeds, let them crackle.
Now add onion and sauté until light brown and then add degi red chilli powder, turmeric powder, green chillies and sauté until fragrant.
Then add tomatoes saute for half a minute and add water, soaked split black gram, salt mix everything properly and cover and cook for 12-15 minutes or until soft.
Remove the lid and add crushed roasted cumin seeds, coriander leaves, mix together and serve hot.

Lovely recipe👌👌..too good and very simple. Urad dal is very slimy by nature so making a dry dish out of this is indeed a brilliance. Kudos to our MasterChef for inspiring us to go to the kitchen and cook for ourselves as home made food is always safe and hygeinic especially in these difficult times.

Hi Chef Brar, thanks for the superb recipe! My mom sent me this video when I asked her if she knew any urad dal recipes by chance (we never had urad before) and long story short, I followed the recipe yesterday and it simply hit home!! 🤩 I'm not much of a cook myself but I loved how simple and undemanding the recipe really was. I'd definitely recommend! 🙌🏻

Loved the way bhoona jeera was crushed with belan, we also do the same way. Btw, we boil daal separately and then add to tadka to get that khili khili daal !! And garnish with nimbu as well :)

Kya baat hei. Sir, apka khana muje meri dadi ji ki yaad dila deta hei. Kai sare khane to aise hei jo wo banate the aur aj mei kisi aur ke hath ka kha hi ni pata hu. Hamare bujurgo ke hath me jaddu tha. Simple si recipe simple se masale par swad kamaal ka.

The eyes are 'Windows to the Soul' likely because they are first conduits for sight. Ranveer aaj aapka show dekh kay aankh bhar aaye specially that line: “Bijee hamesha kehte the jo thande tel me masaley dalta hai uske haath me barkat nahi rehti kyuki uske dimaag me sabar nahi rehta”. 😢😇☺💓

I'm South Indian, we use urad dal mostly for tadka and the obvious idli, dosa, vada. Never knew you could make something like this😳 We do make this with toor dal

Simple, easy yet delicious 💕 We make it similar with yellow moong dal (mostly without garlic, onions , tomatoes and with rai tadka) It's favorite with mango rass and puri. I think it's a must try for me now. Thank you 🙏🏻🙏🏻

Main yehi sikhny ayi apse"hain" main to punjabi h but mere se bnti ni aise mere chacha bnate h but.mujhy ni ati to apse agyi mn sikhny "hain" I love the way to talk and specially "hain" sir yhanku
