I know in rains usually people crave for pakodas, samosas but I felt like trying some hot and crispy kulchas. When you say the word kulcha, the first place that comes to our mind is Punjab or to be specific Amritsar for me. Through a small place in Chembur on the streets of Mumbai, my taste buds were definitely tickled with authentic amritsari kulche chole.

This one is one of my absolute favourite. Last time I visited, I sat in the same place as Kunal and ate. Yes the Choley (or Chola as some Punjabis call it) is without any oil and ghee here. Their Imli wale pyaaz (chopped Onion soaked in Tamrind water) are also amazing accompaniment to their Kulchas, who by themselves are awesome too. They may also have chillies soaked in vinegar and mustard paste, which too are awesome, but I didn't see them. Like Kunal I like Gobi, Pyaaz (Onion) and Alu Pyaaz (Potato + Onion) Kulchas. The adding of cheese is a new twist so it may make some traditionalist disapprove of it but then as they say - the times they are a-changin'. However, I like to mix my choley, imli wale pyaaz and mirchi and then eat roll them in a bite sized piece of kulcha and devour it as hot as I can. Don't like my Kulchas cold here. These Kulchas remind me of some really good Kulchas I had in Amritsar, near Holy Shree Harmandir Sahib Ji's Shrine (or Darbar Sahib / Golden Temple). There is one called Beant Singh which I particularly like. Once while my wife and I had to catch an afternoon flight, we took a parcel of these Kulchas. However, our flight was delayed so my wife and me ate these Kulchas in the waiting area before the security near the check-ins. The entire area was full of the aroma and everyone around or passing by were smiling. I think we surely made some people hungry - such is the power of good Kulcha + chola. A note of caution to those who want to get these Chembur Kulchas in a parcel, if they are away from the place or especially if the wait is longer between cooking and eating. Pls avoid plastering the butter on these Kulchas in parcel. They become too soggy. If facilities are available reheat bit before eating on tawa and add your only butter only before you commence eating. Thanks again. Lovely place. As usual could see Kunal all excited to enjoy these beauties. Also glad that like me, he too likes the plain ones. I think instead of a cake, you may have asked Nilesh to cut the Kulcha and enjoy with your team. Btw, Nilesh ke to mazze hain for last few episodes but knowing Kunal a bit, I don't know for how long this hiatus from non-veg will last. All the best Nilesh Bhai enjoy till it lasts.
