It was sick watching live! I wanna put emphasis on how much slower cody played this set, everything is more measured in order to avoid the parry and armor traps yoshi inherently has. Very smart adaptation. It is however still exactly what a good yoshi main wants, because our tools are comanding and often *final*. You ARE gonna get egg-laid and you inherently cannot stop it. You ARE heavy, and get thrown off the stage etc. Love how sick amsa plays this, i am sure he actually can strat himself to a reset here, and even a set win in a reset grands. Just gotta not make those small mistakes he made ✨️

Mang0 has no drive anymore man. in any competition 2nd place will always have more drive than first place. He doesn't grind like he used to. he just plays slippi casually with magi and others everyday. The only reason he even makes it that far is because of his previous skill. The same goes for Hbox. Hbox turns on beastmode when he gets sent to losers. But as soon as hbox hits top 8 he couldn't care less if he loses anymore. Like mang0 he's been winning for years and doesn't really feel the need to prove anything anymore

Spoilers Saw this coming for sure, but I'm really glad aMSa didn't go out getting destroyed by Cody in either set, he made it really competitive and for a moment it felt like he'd take a set. Def taking solace in the fact that aMSa gave Cody the biggest scare out of anyone; hes not just a problem for Yoshi, he's a problem for literally everyone. If it weren’t for Cody, amsa would easily be number one I think. In 2022 amsa got number 2 because Cody had bracket demons of his own. In every major win amsa had in 2022 Cody either didn’t attend or was getting mopped by mang0 or Zain or lost to some other hot playing player. But once Cody elevated and stopped losing to them, there was nobody to knock him out anymore and thus keeping amsa from a win. Cody just does not lose to amsa. Amsa needs to pull a full blown hbox and figure out the fox matchup, maybe with the help of a coach like hbox had. And sure I guess you could say plup and moky are also demons of amsa, however moky is still losing to other opponents, and plup hardly attends tournaments these days. I would love to see the amsa #1 story line, but Cody will keep amsa at bay long as he can.

Think that Cody earned himself this win more than anyone in that venue and that it felt sort of Thanos inevitable that he wins. I think the issue currently in Melee isn't Cody or Zain, it's that everyone else seemingly has a stick in their ass and only play halfheartedly after 2022. Hbox and mang0 practiced again but never try to actually improve their game plans against their demons anymore and fall off from the competition cuz of it and their lack of focus on the game. Leffen barely plays Melee at all and still gets piss easy brackets that end with MUs that could go 50/50 for him until he dipps back to Strive for another full year. Plup and Wizzy rarely enter and still outplace almost everyone which makes the game feel sort of idk solved? The only people who actively grind and change the meta are Cody, Zain, Jmook, moky, aMSa and gatekeeper players outside of the top 10 while all the old heads still get fine enough placements for doing basically the same thing they've been doing for the last 2 years. The new blood also gets no cool storylines from commentators or videos anymore that don't get people really invested in them. Cody, Jmook and Zain get the generic big dog treatment on the mic as if they are just standard avatars while the commentators are nonstop nostalgia talking about retired players or way past their prime guys like mang0. If we as a scene can only halfheartedly accept a changing of the guard because we only want to see the same 30+ tired old men win in a static fashion then yeah the game's gonna get stale. Cody and Zain are always gonna be top contenders, no matter if the others try or not and we need to finally stop laying in the god era nostalgia pit as if the new crackhead gen doesn't deserve anything for caring about the game.

I think in this specific setup the main thing is that we are tired of another fox (or any top tier char) dominating a major. Specially against a mid tier like Yoshi. And like Mang0 said people don't root for the #1 player and in my opinion it makes sense. If the grand finals were Zain vs Cody, I would have been sleeping before the match even started, but since it was my man aMSa, I was there until the end.
