I've had an epiphany watching the best of the best of melee. All the top players and their respective successes can be likened to kind of marriage. Between that of melee and the player. With Mango: An unapologetic alcoholic American working man. His relationship with melee is one of volatility, beauty and unpredictability (think Ricky and Lucy from Trailer Park Boys, yes I know they're Canadian). An always entertaining and relatable paring, albeit somewhat unreliable in the long run. With aMSa: A galvanized Japanese salary man with the enlightenment of multicultural influence. Melee is the loyal subservient housewife of a slowly diminishing tradition. An unimposing silent companion, aMSa has successfully maintained a full time job and found a spouse, whilst being among the best. Melee is always with him, never holding him back. Why does Jmook surpass the others? His is the penultimate, an synthesis of wills. Roughly paraphrased, he "does not want to be the best melee player, but he wants to be his best self". For Jmook, melee is a true idealistic partner: one that grants the wisdom of self actualization. Simply put, melee makes Jmook not just a champion, but compels him to be a superior human being.
