Thank you Simon I had a really nice day in Amsterdam and look forward to doing the watch tour there again when I’m next there. It’s a super enjoyable city and great to see the watch shops at the same time.

On the one hand they want genuine buyers but on the other when an enthusiast travels halfway round the world to see them you would think it would be ok for him to meet the shop owner. We all just found out that this shop is not the place to buy a watch.
@WatchFanHenry Жыл бұрын
Of course, I can only speak for myself, and my personal opinion. But if I was an owner of a watch shop, I would want anybody who has a remote interest in the watches to come in and have a look, and browse, and ask questions, and learn more about the watches etc. But to put up a sign saying that you may only enter the store for a repair service or a very specific watch, this is a very cold and unfriendly approach. And I would never walk into a shop that has this approach, as evidenced in my video. I think it’s very bad form. But this is the personal decision of the owner of the watch shop, and he is welcome to that opinion as well, even though I don’t agree with it.

You made me dig out my Rolex and I have put a new battery in it and it is keeping good time. It may be a fake. I think I got it from a garage sale years ago. I certainly did not pay 6K for it.
@WatchFanHenry Жыл бұрын
Rolex do not make watches that are powered by batteries, so I’m pretty sure your watch was not made by Rolex. But I am glad that you enjoy your watch, as that is all that really matters is in the end.
@bobby381 Жыл бұрын
@@WatchFanHenry ok so now I'm really questioning your experience in Rolex watches. Rolex produced their quartz watches, the Oysterquartz Datejust and the Oysterquartz Day-Date for about 25 years.
@mrparlanejxtra Жыл бұрын
I am now 100% sure it is a fake. Even when is says "datejust" and " perpetual" on the face. I still prefer my Casio. I also have an automatic Seiko of the 70's that I paid a watchmaker $350 for a full service. It is the sort of thing with a Maroon face that was advertised in Playboy magazines along with Sansui stereos. It is too good to wear every day now.@@WatchFanHenry

Enjoying your videos. BTW, Squale is pronounced "squah lay"
@WatchFanHenry Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much, I am happy to learn! There are some watch brand-name pronunciation videos around and I’ll need to check them out for a refresher. As an Anglophone Canadian, my foreign language skills are very weak, and I do need to be respectful of best pronunciation of brand names. I always appreciate corrections like this. Thanks again.

What’s your watch collection consist of?
@WatchFanHenry Жыл бұрын
I’m not going to be revealing the contents of my personal collection on social media. I’m just going to be sharing my passion on the subject.

The sign seems to be targeted at "teenagers in the Ferrari dealer" and shady folk, i.e. not someone that wants to browse a bit and can easily drop the 10k if he likes something.
@wreagfe Жыл бұрын
Just to add: To sketch the atmosphere. Amsterdam suffers a lot from low-value tourism, so I can only imagine what kind of people would go through that shop without the ground rules in place. The shop would probably be empty by the end of the day, and not because they sold all the watches. Nowadays, in Amsterdam Rolexes are traded on the streets at the point of a knife.
@WatchFanHenry Жыл бұрын
Exactly!!!! Their marketing is totally off. It is bad. The serious watch collectors like to browse .. certainly I do. And to be told that is not allowed .. I will walk away from such a store. As I did.
@bobby381 Жыл бұрын
Are you in the market to buy a watch or do you just look?
@WatchFanHenry Жыл бұрын
I’m always in the market for ROLEX watches, and have been for the last 30 years. I have acquired and had a number of ROLEX watches that passed through my ownership so my whole life involves going to watch shops, seeing what they have on offer, and see what catches my eye, seeing if the price is a good one for me, and making a decision if it’s a watch that I’d like to own.

I only know of Paul Thorpe based on his Rolex videos and I very much appreciate his commentary on the market, but I personally don’t get into sideline politics as by its very nature the topic is divisive. For me it is just about the watches.
