I moved from London to Amsterdam in 2019 and my first apartment was in the Bijlmer, near Kraaiennest. The spirit of the community in that area reminded me closely reminded me of that in London and the food was excellent; all cooked by locals with a passion for their gemeenschap and their culture. Veel liefde en veel succes voor het toekomst!

@@Stormvogel262 Ah, the magic word "traditional". I'm Dutch and my food isn't bland, unless you mean "not loaded with salt". My impression is that's what most people mean with "bland". Because it's sounds like a catch 'm all word, without a clear meaning.
@Stormvogel262
@Stormvogel262 Жыл бұрын
@@hunchbackaudio I mean, I think that we can all agree that Dutch food in general is bland an uninspiring as fuck? Even our German / Danish neighbours have better culture compared to us. That's why I applaud Carribean / south-east Asian / North African (Moroccan) / Turkish food culture. It's so much better in every way, shape and form compared to Traditional Dutch food culture (or the lack thereof)
@hunchbackaudio

@@Stormvogel262 I think that's personal, I can't think of any German or Danish dish I like. Even got a lot of pretty bad meals in France for that matter. Had some great food in Greece, but if after a few days you want something else for a change, forget it. Always thankfull to be back in Holland where I can choose from a great variety of different cuisines in any city I visit. I can buy any type of spice I can think of in my local Supermarket or Toko. I think that's pretty unique in the world.

I'm from the English speaking Caribbean (Jamaica, parents / UK, born and raised) who immigrated to the Netherlands years ago. When I first met my first group of Dutch Caribbean friends, all of them were going wild over something I had never ever heard of 'Johnny Cakes'. To this day I still have not knowingly eaten one. I guess coming from the UK, anything with the word 'Johnny' conjures up thoughts of a contraceptive.
