And that's exactly how you run a train across multiple countries with no major delays all in and with old stock, looked fantastic!!
@Brauiz90
@Brauiz90 Жыл бұрын
The only delay was caused by a signal failure in Germany... it had nothing to do with the train or it's crew. I love it when services like this one are running just great even with older rolling stock. New trains sure cost a lot of money, so buying old stock and keep it running is the best option for new companies (just like Flix Train used to do it). Like you said /wrote in this video - no dining car, just some snacks and drinks offered (still nice instead of nothing) - maybe it'll be added in the future... in between the two train sets where it'll be split later. I thought the train will be split in Salzburg because one of the two parts is going to Bischofshofen and one to Bludenz, both destinations for ÖBB's Railjets or commuter trains. (like the S3)

I am so happy that this tourist trains re-appear after a long time. When I was I child (in the 70s), my mother and I travelled a lot with AMEROPA or TOUROPA to Italy and France and Austria in their "Liegewagen" (Couchette) and I especially remember the food bags on the trip to the Gardasee (Lago di Garda) where there was always a cold roast chicken leg in the bag. And I loved it so much.

the qr codes do work on the gates, but you will have to turn off NFC on your phone. the NS app does this automatically, but other apps don't. this is extra important from next week when you will be able to travel by using your bank card, which will go via NFC as well.
@ReubenJames
@ReubenJames Жыл бұрын
Even if you don’t turn off NFC, you can hold the QR code up to the reader, then press the home button to dismiss the wallet interface while still holding the phone in the same position. This works on iPhone. I’d imagine it’s much the same on Android.
@alph5230
@alph5230 Жыл бұрын
The problem is that the gates are completely stupid
@DerKatzeSonne
@DerKatzeSonne Жыл бұрын
Also use one of the outer (less used) gates as the glas covering the QR code reader is so scratched from the NFC cards on the gates used more often, that it can't read the QR code properly. That really is a big design fail.

I love night trains. This one would be nearly perfect with a dining car attached to it, i think. I'm a little jealous that I wasn't allowed to travel on this train so far. 🙂 The best night train experience so far for me was the City Night Line in a deluxe sleeper cabin. I would make me so happy to see this trains back on rails cross europe.

Its so nice to see charter trains like this finally being revived. Not just with this but also other ventures too like the similar Snälltåget service once a week from Malmö, and the Danish cities of Copenhagen, Odense, and Kolding, to similar destinations in the Alps. Hopefully we see even more trains like this in the future, it certainly looks like a much nicer way to travel. It's also interesting to see a night train like that at St Anton. DSB, the Danish State railways, actually ran a winter charter train back in the day from Copenhagen to St Anton called "Skiløberen". However it was discontinued in 2008, and the concept of it was only revived last year by Snälltåget (who actually also own several of the old Skiløberen coaches, but doesn't use them much these days)

I was going to make a snarky remark about the beer, but since it was the only choice: my sympathies. Typical: you cross into Germany, and something breaks. I have a theory that it is impossible to drive a non-trivial distance over the Autobahn and not encounter Baustellen (i.e. road works). Same for the railways: there has been chronic underinvestment for decades. Big thumbs up to GreenCityTrip for including Chocomel in the breakfast box. Some 20 years after I emigrated from the Netherlands, it is now available at my small local supermarket in Malta. Austria and the Alps remind me of my childhood. My parents would drive all the way to southern Germany (Baden-Württemberg) or some lake in Austria, and we'd go up mountains, or at one time I tried to build a dam in a mountain stream. I've been badgering my wife that we take a trip to Austria, but this time Vienna, and to visit a friend that lives in a town on the Danube. It's like Germany, but with everything working.

Those carriages had been sitting in a yard in Cologne Deutz since the start of the pandemic, so it's good to see them finally getting some use. Some of those sleeping cars looked almost derelict a few months ago. There's another train set still there, the "Autoslapptrein", though that looks to be in significantly worse condition.

Really? Aren't those the same ones used on the Urlaubszug from Düsseldorf south where you can bring your car?
@SvenMolhuijsen1

Im pretty sure these carriages are from münster (westf) cause the company these are rent from has its own yard there. but they are now used so frequently you will most likely see them in Amsterdam. The urlaubszug uses their own carriages as far as I know.

Used the old CIWL cars with OeBB back in 2008 from Graz to Zuerich. Comfy and not too noisy even over the wheels. Considering their cousins on VIA are still going for now, it's not a surprise that they're still in use. The old DB NachtZug Talgos were cracking cars, shame they're gone.

Funny: the livery of most of the coaches looks almost exactly as the FS long distance trains in the 1980s (some survived well into the 2000s and a few may be still sitting somewhere on the sidings). And those stainless steel coaches are probably built to last forever.

The scenery on the Arlberg line is incredible. It boggles my mind that more travel guides don't make a point of seeing and experiencing a ride on that railway. I rode on that route way back in 1979 on a night train from Zurich to Vienna, in a coach where the compartments had the pull-flat seats. There were six of us in that compartment, lying noses to feet on the big bed formed of six pulled-down seats. In those days, long before Schengen, we all had to wake up and show our passports at the Swiss-Austrian border. I really have to go back and ride that route in the daytime!

Thibault, the best sleep ever was in an AB30 (EN490 Bruxelles-Zürich), followed by MU (OBB Orient Express,Paris-Wien 2006), P-Type T2 was OK (Train Bleu, Ventimiglia-Paris). Favourite service was Elipsos Paris-Madrid in S6 Talgo Trenhotel, principally because of the excellent restaurant car for both supper and breakfast (views past Avila in the morning...). Worst sleep, by far, was Thello couchette (Venezia-Paris) followed by Transsib in kupe (really noisy buckeye couplers), though RZD restaurant car was good. Best restaurant car for value was Polish Jan Kiepura (Warszawa-Frankfurt). Freshly cooked supper for 5 was only 20 Euros in 2007...! Keep up the good work. Mike

Dining service or some better catering is on the todo list for the future for these trains. They already had a lot of trouble to get the coaches itself. There is a huge shortage of these coaches in Europe at the moment. The operator has the ambition to offer full service.

This is a fantastic service, highly civilised way to travel. As mentioned by others, the main failing of the service is the lack of a dining car for dinner on leaving Amsterdam and breakfast (cooked) riding through Austria. I suppose if there were a restaurant car the prices would be silly! We can imagine that we are on the Orient Express to Istanbul.

From Amsterdam to Bludenz - via Wörgl, thus from the east? The natural way would have been from the west via Bregenz, and before that Ulm - Friedrichshafen - Lindau. This line has been electrified for a couple of years. The only remaining problem (to my knowledge): When electrifying, DB didn't also reconstruct the 'Mussolinibahn', which was a short track connecting the Südbahn and Bodenseegürtelbahn (see WP [de] article). This would eliminate the need to change directions at Friedrichshafen.

Can't tell in the frame what brightness your phone was on. But a common issue with digital QR codes on these gates is that they're only able to read it on max brightness. Not to accuse you that you didn't have it on full brightness. But that's one of the biggest reasons why it usually doesn't work.

I feel like a “land cruise” on a train with good quality food and entertainment on board included would be such a successful service especially for Americans and Canadians visiting Europe. They could have a kitchen with a few restaurants and room service offered, they could easily get a bar and some other forms of entertainment and if they did what night hey have done and have double decker sleeper carriages they could get a lot of people on board. I’m thinking an equivalent of the Ghan or Indian pacific in Australia but in Europe (or even North America) and less of a focus on being posh and high class and more of a there is room for all vibe like most cruises. If they had someone who’s job was to keep showers clean I feel like they could even get away with shared public showers. I feel like a private company could really thrive with this model especially if it’s affordable for families or regular adults unlike the closest alternatives in Europe. If I was in Canada and was going for a virgin cruises adult only vibe I would 100% try to lean into weed tourism by having a weed train car with vents a lounge area (not sure the gov would be down but it would be a cool idea since most trains have a bar or alcohol)

I see a lot of passengers boarding the train at Utrecht but not skis. Are skis loaded in a baggage car or do the passengers rent skis at the ski resort?
