AMT Automag II

Welcome to the second installment of our AMT Hat Trick series with the AMT Automag II .22 Winchester Magnum Rimfire chambered pistol. Here we will explore this pistol in detail, namely it's unique Chamber Ring type of Delayed Blowback operation, some AMT history surrounding the companies founder Harry Sanford, as well as some seldom discussed topics as Blish Lock.
While some speak badly about AMT there was a tremendous amount of innovative design involved with the guns they produced as well as a constant "thinking outside the box" mentality that I grew to respect and be fascinated by. It may be true that they need a little bit more "incentive" to function than most guns but they never "played it safe" making clones of what everyone else was doing and breaking new ground constantly is not an easy task if all your being judged by is perfect function.

Your comment was very thought provoking. I was always an AMT fan but was never out money due to a bankruptcy…..would I still be a fan under those circumstances? Probably not. Got me thinking…… I would certainly feel betrayed. But, Harry died and the company was sold and long gone before I ever even bought an AMT. I’m collecting history here and some history is pleasant and positive, some is tragic and turbulent. Unlike things like hobbies and collecting, business can be cruel and unforgiving. Harry, I believe, loved his company and his dream was to deliver affordable uniquely chambered and exotic handguns. He was way ahead of his time. Building a successful business is like raising a child…..you will do whatever you need to do to keep them alive. I believe he loved his guns and his fans and was just trying to survive in a business full of monsters that could eat your company alive.

Absolutely true, many of humanities great inventions have a similar story and a genius is often revealed through similar circumstances as Harry. He has left a legacy of unique firearms concepts. Also my Aunty's 5th husband was probably my favourite because he had character😎.

I had a Crosman BB/Pellet gun that looked like the Auto mag. It was cool the barrel would pop up for the pellet. And if I’m not mistaken it had a internal BB magazine. It was a co2 pistol it was called the auto air 2. Good video by the enjoyed it

It works pretty good with that particular ammo I was using. Switching up the ammo choice produces mixed results. Actually, depending on the day of the week, it produces mixed results. I think it was aware I was filming for the video that day.

Interesting video. Thanks for posting. I came across a 6" model in a gun store about 20 years ago. It looked like it had hardly been fired, so I took a chance on it. It's been kept fairly clean since, and the steel is still very nice ... not a speck of rust inside and out. I would say it functions about as well as my 22lr semi's, which is just fine for me. It is great fun to shoot, but it is LOUD. I would love to try an AMT in 30 carbine. That model has always intrigued me.

Brevity is readily available on KZbin with the 3 minute videos telling you it's great and shoots bullets. You want to hear about the designers, the patents, the history......brevity has no place in that ajenda. Informative has a price......time. Plus, i'm certainly not a professional over here.
