“ The main thing is to have fun” - truer words never spoken, Chris. This phrase should be on the mind of every modeler - thanks for bringing the joy back into kit building for me - I was one of those clowns that drifted off into everything having to be perfect and honestly not enjoy modeling like I did when I was a kid. Thanks for another great video and build up, I always learn something from you even though I’ve been modeling for almost 50 years.

I'm watching it as I type. WOW, what a deal, and an easy build, unlike the AMT 1/640, or whatever it is. I was building it, and decided to paint the aztecks. I order this paint mask set for like 80 bucks, and it is all but un use able! Then I decide to build the kit as it looked in the first season, without aztecks, and as I was almost done applying the 100, or so decals, the hull comes apart, and as I try to fix it, I crush the hull with a clamp! After that, I put it away, and I haven't looked at it in a year or so, but I will fix it some day, maybe after this kit of an airliner, something easy to get back into the groove again.
@hpiguy5 жыл бұрын
I really enjoyed this kit, would happily build another one. I have the big one, the clear one for lights but simply no time to make it. I do think AMT makes a big aztec decal set for it, to make life easier if you want aztecs. But I could be wrong.

I have this kit, also from Round 2 although where it did come with he same decal sheet. it did Not come with a stand. So I'm having to scratch build a stand for this kit. BTW that was the Navigational sensor array you were talking about. if you look up photos of the studio model that was sold at auction it shows in full color the of the model from every angle possible. Also there is a video on youtube of this kit where a modeler shows step by step where he drilled out all the view ports after doing the decals and assembling the kit and he filled the ports with krystal clear and lit this little model up. Currently I'm working on both this kit which is awaiting a primer coat from the airbrush soon as the weather warms up and I can get into the shop. and also I have the round 2 22 inch cutaway TOS Enterprise. which was a gift from my niece and her husband for Christmas. which I have cutaway the inaccurate interior and glued the hull parts together to turn it into a full hull kit. which is to scale to the AMY 1/537 refit. but am converting some parts to turn it from the production Enterprise to the pilot version. and intend to light it up.

Just a quick THANK YOU for this video. At the start of COVID, I thought, what a perfect time to build a model. It took me weeks to collect all of the elements to make this (paints, tools, the actual model itself) which was no easy task while in lockdown (those easy to find craft acrylic paints? Yeah not so much during COVID lol) but I did get them all eventually. I must have watched this video like 20 times, but the result speaks for itself. I have an absolutely beautiful Enterprise -D model now... and I really, really enjoyed doing it. So much so that it has inspired me to do more! The -C is next and then we will see about going bigger. Thanks again for doing this video... it helped immensely, and I'm very pleased with the final product!

I have decided to get back into models after stopping for about 12 years, and this just gave me the boost I needed. One question to ask about the hand painting you did. I've started this kit & i have a couple of questions for you. Ive forgotten which nacelle is which, ive noticed a small square on the bottom of each nacelle just above where it will fit onto the strut. Would you say the square goes on the outer or inner side? I noticed you used Folkart Metallics, what are the color codes on these? Lastly, how did you remove the sprue on the secondary hull after you finished painting? Did you use sprue cutters or a hobby knife? I dont want cause a massive missing chunk to appear, like it did when i cut the sprue away from the saucer section. Your build looks amazing BTW, I'm hoping mine will turn out that good too. Cheers in advance.

I'm used to working with MicroSol and MicroSet, though, having seen your effects with Tamiya products, and also being fan of their products in general, I'm quite keend on trying out their decal solvents. I'm using Tamiya's decal solvents for the first time and I'm noticing a much gentler effect on the decals than MicroSol/Set combo. It's been few hours and the decals still didn't really conform perfectly to the shape and in places the film sticks out (I specifically started working on nacelles, the very front of the forward decal slticks out slightly on the round part at the front of the nacelle) is this something I should be concerned with or simply giving them another good few hours to set should do the trick? Should I simply press them on more firmly? I'm using Mark Fit as under decal and Mark Fit Strong over decals, and I hand painted my kit using Tamiya's own acrylics, plus their acrylic rattle can gloss coat.

Really good build. Nice ship. Tho, for some reasons, I always feel like the decals are a little too dark. Could it be that the grey color of the hull leak thru them, or are they too thick for this to happen? Also you stated your pref on Tamiya decal solvents. Why do you like them better than the other brands? What are Tamiya's advantages VS, let say, Microsol and Microset?

Great build , the decals realy lift the model, but round 2 realy should have thought about putting in alternate clear parts and a PE window drill guide for those modelers that like to light their models, maybe they will come out with an after market kit to do just that. I keep posting these, I know, but I'm running into some concering issues with the decals. For example the ones around the back of the neck, secondary suttlebays (16 and 17). For some reason on my kit these were completely different shape and I had to cut them to in two pieces to get even some semblence of fit. Also earlier, with the nacelles that I already decaled, I had issues with big upper decals (59) were so long that the back portion of the center stripe curved all the way into the warp grille at the back. Did you have similar issue perhaps? Because right now I'm quite concerned about proceeding, I fear that maybe in these few years between your and my attempt at this kit the decal printing quality slipped and I'm looking at quite painful process with my model. 0:35 - timestamp to a moment in the video where you can see the decal numbers I'm refering to.

Awesome vid. I just picked this up. Haven’t modeled in 30 years. I noticed you are using regular Home Depot rustoleum spray paint and automotive primer. The guy at the hobby shop I bought my kit from said I had to use these small expensive Tamiya paints and primer. He said nothing else would work. I see you used them with no problem. Why did the guy need to lie to me? I’ve been waiting to build until these “special” paints show up that I ordered but are back ordered. Really ticks me off.

I won't speak for other folks but hobby shops will sell hobby materials, so that is what they will recommend. I've been modeling for a long time and have found lots of cheaper substitutes, but I still use Tamiya sprays and Testors paints too when I want to.

Does anyone know the names of the music used in this video?

They are both under You Tube's audio library for creators to be used on videos. kzbin.infomusic Ocean Beach and Mist are their names.

Fah, you kids these days and your included decals. Why back in my day I had to order aftermarket for mine... :) But another great build sir. I think the only thing I might have done differently is to sand off the raised panel lines.

Bought it from a guy that claimed it is already put together and painted etc. It was not. I am not the best modeler, so not gonna happpen. So I spent money on that raw model and it will go to the basement in pieces.

Water based decal transfer: heartache. If they break or don't sit right you're screwed. Extremely terrible idea.

Hi Chris, I have just stumbled onto your KZbin channel this morning and would like to say how impressed I am with all the kits you have done. Your work is superb, very impressive indeed. My fav Star Trek ship is Voyager, I have almost finished my Revell model coming in at 510mm. My work skill shouldn't be mentioned in the same sentence as yours lol but I am on a quest to learn some tricks of the trade, fine brushwork etc. I am very much a rookie and did not even know about transfer compound along with the other products available. Do you know of a good site for step by step teaching as I am only self taught and know nothing. I have a link to some pix if your interested, I would appreciate some tips on redoing the brushwork, I used old paint. Can the paint be revived? Best way to remove old paint etc. I am looking forward to exploring your channel further. Link to photo's - photos.app.goo.gl/iXQebAe9gAJXznua8 Cheers and all the best - Bruce Brisbane Australia
