Star Trek: Discovery is an American web television series created for CBS All Access by Bryan Fuller and Alex Kurtzman. Launched in 2017, it is the first scripted series developed specifically for that service. The seventh series in the Star Trek franchise, it was the first series in the franchise since Star Trek: Enterprise concluded in 2005. Star Trek: Discovery begins roughly a decade before the events of the original Star Trek series, and follows the crew of the USS Discovery on various adventures.
Sonequa Martin-Green stars as Michael Burnham, a female science specialist on the Discovery. Doug Jones, Shazad Latif, Anthony Rapp, Mary Wiseman, and Wilson Cruz also star, along with Jason Isaacs for the first season, Anson Mount for the second, and David Ajala for the third. The series was announced in November 2015, with Fuller acting as showrunner from February to October 2016 but leaving due to creative differences with CBS. He was replaced by Gretchen J. Berg and Aaron Harberts, who received producing support from Akiva Goldsman. Goldsman did not return after the first season, while Berg and Harberts were fired by CBS during production on the second; Kurtzman took over as showrunner, and was joined by Michelle Paradise for the third season.
Star Trek: Discovery premiered on September 19, 2017, at ArcLight Hollywood, before debuting on CBS and CBS All Access on September 24. The rest of the 15-episode first season was streamed weekly on All Access, ending in February 2018. The season's release led to record subscriptions for All Access, and positive reviews from critics who highlighted Martin-Green's performance. The 14-episode second season was released from January to April 2019, and the 13-episode third season is expected to debut in 2020.
The series was the beginning of a wider expansion of the Star Trek franchise by CBS and Kurtzman, leading to multiple other series being produced, including the direct spin-off companion series Star Trek: Short Treks.
Beginning roughly ten years before the events of Star Trek: The Original Series,[2] the show sees the Klingon houses become united in a war with the United Federation of Planets that heavily involves the crew of the USS Discovery (NCC-1031).[3][4] In the second season, after the war has ended, Discovery investigates seven mysterious signals and a strange figure known as the "Red Angel". This conflict ends with the Discovery travelling to the 32nd century, more than 900 years into their future.
On November 2, 2015, CBS announced a new Star Trek television series to premiere in January 2017, "on the heels" of the 50th anniversary of Star Trek: The Original Series in 2016. This was the first Star Trek series since Star Trek: Enterprise concluded in 2005, and the first show to be developed specifically for the CBS All Access streaming service. Alex Kurtzman, co-writer of the films Star Trek (2009) and Star Trek Into Darkness (2013), and Heather Kadin were set as executive producers on the series, which would not be related to the 2016 film Star Trek Beyond. The January 2017 date was the earliest that CBS could release a new Star Trek series after an agreement the company made when it split from Viacom in 2005.[36] Showtime, Netflix, and Amazon Video all offered "a lot of money" for the rights to release the series, but after heavily investing in the new All Access service, CBS believed that a returning Star Trek could be "the franchise that really puts All Access on the map". In January, CBS president Glenn Geller said the CBS network were not creatively involved in the series, despite plans for the network to broadcast the pilot episode, saying, "It really is for All Access."
Sonequa Martin-Green as Michael Burnham:
A science specialist on USS Discovery. Burnham is a human who was raised following Vulcan culture and traditions by Sarek. A protagonist who is not a starship captain was chosen for the series to give it a different perspective from previous installments in the franchise, with a "richer context" due to her relationships with her captain and her subordinates.Co-creator Bryan Fuller gave her a traditionally male name, which he had done with the female leads on three of his previous series.
Doug Jones as Saru:
First officer of the USS Discovery. Saru is the first Kelpien to enter Starfleet. Kelpiens, a new species created for Discovery, were hunted as prey on their home planet and thus evolved the ability to sense the coming of danger, giving them a reputation for cowardice.Jones based Saru's walk on that of a supermodel out of necessity due to the boots he had to wear to portray the character's hooved feet The producers compared Saru to the characters Spock and Data

Great build, but I wish Round 2 would have made the ship name, registry, banners and windows as separate decals, so you don't have to use the Aztec, like they do with their 1/1000 kits. I have all the other Enterprises in 1/2500 scale and getting the Aztec decals to line up/ lay down properly is nearly impossible. I've used warm water with/without a drop of dish soap, various decal setting solutions, but nothing really seems to work. The problem is that you have to get the decal in the exact location before you start the process of eliminating air bubbles and applying decal solvents, but as the decals conform to the surface, shrinking in the process, you will find that they will most likely be off. If the 1st decal is off by even a 1/64", every decal after it will be off and the whole thing comes out looking wrong. Then theres the clear decal film on the edges of each decal, if you don't attempt to trim it off, you'll pay for it later. After spending the cash to purchase the kit, and the time to build it, only to have the decals screw it up on you, is frustrating to say the least. Would have purchased this kit, but I'm over Round 2's Aztec decals, and since you have to use them to have the ship name, etc., this kit is a HARD pass for me.

I'd probably go over the model itself with a black primer, then give it a cool grey/almost slate color to give it more of that reflective look that we saw at the end of season 1 of Discovery. And then give the base board a more bronze or antique bronze color.

For the small size of these kits, they are way over priced. Not all of the decals from Round2 are nice to work with. Many of the decals are super thick and don't like decal setting solution. I've always used Walthers solvaset being the best that I've used since my days in model railroading and many of their decals still are stubborn. Round2 has also been selling the decals separately now for the 1000th scale Enterprise Refit. Used to get the kit with the Aztec decals for around 29 dollars. Now the kit is about 30 bucks and close to another 30 for the Aztec decal set.

Though I grew up with Star Trek in the Tos days and am a big Trek fan more then Star Wars, I won't be jumping on these either. I haven't been a big fan of all the spin offs either and definitely won't pay to see them on the CBS stream. Round2 is releasing a 1000th scale version of the Discovery Enterprise later this year and I imagine that will be pretty pricey as well.
@whocares6965
@whocares6965 4 жыл бұрын
I too have the opinion that they seem pricey. It’s only 1/1000, and when I saw it, I thought it looked great. I was thinking for $49 dollars, the light kit was included, nope. For that scale it should be about the same price as the other 1/1000 kits. Or at least maybe make it like 1/500 scale. $49 for a 1/1000? I’ll wait til it shows up on eBay for a lesser price hopefully
@JimPaulJr
@JimPaulJr 4 жыл бұрын
These are 1/2500 scale not 1000th scale. They did just release a 1000th scale Discovery Enterprise which is 18 inches long. The 2500 scale kits as in this video dont have light kits. The light kit that you mention is for the 1000th scale which is not in this video. As for lower prices on Ebay for these, don't count on it. These kits are already selling for more than the store price and once they are out of circulation or no longer being produced the price will just skyrocket.

All those other classes of star ships are so wrong,so far away from Canon that it's not even funny! The N.C.C.1701 was the FIRST OF HERKIND!! There were no other starships,at this time in the Canon timeline the Constitution class was the only class of starship. Sorry to nerd all over your comment section,I've sought professional help. All these non Canon things...just No!! Great build as always! I would get one and paint it up like the original series Enterprise. That's an abomination that will never grace my hobby room shelves. I refuse to make or display eather the J. J. Prise nor the Discovery Prise. No thanks. I am old school and would rather build a fleet of the older Enterprise or refit over that. I wasn't a big fan of the Enterprise C or D eather but the E has always been my favorite over the refit. I wouldn't have lit that model eather. When Roddenberry chose the design for the Enterprise, he chose a classic for all ages. Yes I know, it's all about building the model, so is building the Ford Mustang yet how many body changes did they do? I owned 3 of them.

It is a beautiful model, and a beautiful ship, but it is in no way a predecessor to Pike/Kirk's Enterprise. CBS had chance to reinvent Star Trek for everyone's enjoyment, and they chose to shoehorn a series, that looks more advanced than TNG, into the narrative. As a reboot, it is fair, minus the language (Gene Roddenberry felt an enlightened, unified people of Earth would have moved past colorful metaphors). Even Spock makes a comment about foul language in ST:TVH; the use of foul language by Starfleet personnel is inconsistent with Spock's statement. Sorry for the diatribe, but I can't understand how so many people can blindly accept the changes and still believe Kirk's Enterprise from TOS is meant to follow this series. The reason the Shenzhou model has more pronounced detail in the model is because it was made up by the writers of the show, and so they chose to have it look as much not like a Federation starship, in color, paint, and details. The wanted to invoke feelings of nostalgia, drawing from the USS Reliant, but failed due to its paint job, colors, and pronounced Azteking.
