Hi Pete, just been catching up with videos and got to say this one is really evolving into a great detailed period short track race car. All the little details are bringing this basic kit to life. It's a shame that the DNA from this kit and all the others from the modified stocker series we're all really nice end of line 3in1 annual kits... They just modified the body tools beyond repair with the opened up wheel arches and hence why the chassis were so basic and again just modified from the original stock floor pans. We lost some really nice tools including the 65 Chevelle and the 64 Galaxie in the series was a really nice highly optioned kit with full custom and detailed NASCAR versions.. luckily I have one of those in the collection. Anyways keep up the good work Pete and looking forward to seeing this one done.

Cheers John. It does look like a very nice early mould was destroyed to make this model,which I do think is a shame. On the other hand,with the damaged Mustang to use as a donor, it has become an interesting project. I'm having good ideas and trying new things,which does seem to be what I enjoy the most👍😃

@@thescalemodelcarguychannel8681 i understand it with the old promo kits,Shawn and in the early 60s when injection moulded plastic kits were a new thing and had basic moulding systems. @@thescalemodelcarguychannel8681 Revell's modern armour kits are no where near as badly detailed,although they do rebox a lot of Dragon and ICM kits, which can easily have 300+ parts in a 1/35 scale kit. Why doesn't a 1/25 scale car kit have 200 parts at least. Brake details, windscreen wipers, door handles and winders, all could be moulded properly

I should think it was originally a promo style car but there's some odd parts still on the sprue. The stock dashboard but also a blower belt. I bet quite a nice kit was ruined by this release😭. It's been a lot of hard work especially as the Mustang kit was more Spartan than I'd hoped as it doesn't have a steering box or heater,which would have been helpful

I think it is a great idea to work on the roll cage. It really looks bad the way it is. In most stock type race cars the battery is mounted behind the drivers seat or in the trunk. That may be why there is no battery. Thanks for sharing.

I saw your name on a couple of vids I watched during the week and I'm glad you've had a go at a grille. Everyone I've opened looks,to me,🤓 far superior than the original part🤔. They've varied in difficulty to a vast amount,the Plymouth coupe being by far the hardest due to its fragility but I was quite euphoric when I'd finished it😃. The big holed ones are simple to do and I have no idea why people paint black paint in them😮😣. The one in front of the windscreen,on this one was rather testing and has had a couple of spars broken which I had to stop and repair😣😢but still looks good now I've added the duct inside it.😀

So many kits have poorly designed roll cages. The size of styrene you are planning on using looks more in scale. Most race cars have the battery in the rear. I look forward to the progress, I love dirt racers. My dad raced dirt oval for about 15 years.🤓👍

Thanks for the info and I was thinking of putting the battery elsewhere. But even if you do take a battery out there would still be a battery tray in the original position and it hadn't been included. I also thought the heater would have been removed from the engine firewall and then blanked off,so I want to add a blanking plate. There is no fuse box or regulator on the fire wall nor is there a steering box. I doubted these would have been removed so I'd hoped I could take them from the mustang, unfortunately they are not modelled in that kit either
@modelcars2978
@modelcars2978 7 ай бұрын
A dirt car will have the engine bay gutted. You'd only have the essentials: motor, steering, radiator, brake system, fuel lines, coil and maybe an ignition box (not everyone runs one). Everything else has to go, including the inner fenders. They will have weight limits. So, the idea is to remove all excess weight, then you can add weight back in where you want it. Some rules don't let you "add weight" so you have to "innovate." If you know what I mean.🤓👍
@petesmodelcarcustoms584
@petesmodelcarcustoms584 7 ай бұрын
@@modelcars2978 .As in all racing,weight is the enemy. I'm trying to make the most out of a crap kit. It hasn't got a steering box,either. But then nor has the mustang that I'm trying to scavenge parts from. Niether has it got a heater and that was meant to be a stock car🤔. These model car kits are all simplified to allow children to play with them or novice builders not to get to frustrated by the amount of parts needed to make accurate models. Like moulding in door handles,window winders, folding seats or seat belts.A lot of builders,on you tube have over looked all these faults and would not bother opening the radiator grilles on their kits or adding radiator hoses let alone fixing any faults or improving the level of detail to adult model levels
