Why do almost all the BNSF trains have like 6 units pulling the train? Isn’t that excessive?

No, because they come from long routes, grades, and curves and maintain all the power Incase one locomotive goes dead there’s like for example, 5 units instead of 6. And also there’s reason and some have defects and need repair at Barstow or Commerce BNSF diesel Facility.
