Very well done video. I enjoyed the relaxing music as well as your narration. I have ridden many of the AMTRAK routes BUT not yet ridden this one. Hopefully I will be able to catch it when buying a USA rail pass and take a trip in Feb or March of 2023 and will be starting in Houston Tx, going West to LA then going north to Seattle then east to Chicago then to NYC then DC then Miami and then not yet sure.

"That beautiful mountain you saw at breakfast was Mt. Shasta Volcano. The first one you saw was Mt. Hood Volcano. Thank you for concentrating on the scenic wonders outside of the train rather than the train itself. Thank you also for letting everyone know that the southbound journey would deny riders the sights of the Cascades. I am a mountain person and could care less about the ocean and seashore. When I ride the Coast Starlight, it will be to see the mountains only.
@TravelingWithBryan5 ай бұрын
Thank you so much! I kinda thought that was Mr. Shasta but wasn't 100% certain. It was so majestic, seeing it gave me chills. You're right, riding past the water is fun but actually going up and over the Cascades is really a magnificent adventure that is a truly amazing experience. Thanks again for identifying the mountains and making me smarter 😃

I went on my first long-distance train back in January 2023 on the lake shore limited from depew ny to Boston Massachusetts. A lot shorter compared to this but 11 hours on a train is still long. It was also my first solo trip out of state. I had the roomette.

Another comment recommended that Lake Shore ride. You're right, even 11 hours is a long trip lol! I've added that ride to my "Train Ride Wish List" lol!!! Hope to meet you some day out there on the rail!

Amazing trip! What you had on the first night on the train for dinner, breakfast and the second day of the train for lunch is exactly what I would have had! There has been some changes to the menu which I don’t know if all this is still current, but they replaced the Artisan grilled cheese sandwich with the monte cristo sandwich, one of the replacement with the lobster crab cake pre dinner appetizer is the coconut crusted shrimp, the flat iron steak which used to come with a baked potato or polenta now comes with mashed potatoes, the Philadelphia cheesecake is now the white chocolate blueberry cobbler cheesecake, the chips that came with the burger now are back to regular potato chips, the chocolate torte you had was replaced with a chocolate mouse which I believe isn’t available during lunch as they had a different dessert option during lunch which isn’t listed on the menu
@TravelingWithBryan5 ай бұрын
Wow thanks so much for letting me know of those changes! I think I'd rather have the coconut crusted shrimp instead of the lobster crab cake. You've inspired me to jump back on the Coast Starlight, just for the food lol!!! Thank you so much again!

@@TravelingWithBryan yea sure, and hope the trip was worth the steep prices! I’m curious to know because later this summer in August I’m supposed to go on the Southbound Coast starlight from Portland to Oxnard and I’m thinking of doing the sleeping car for the first in a very long time

Roomette or bedroom? I am still debating. It would just be me. I just wonder if the bedroom justifies the price difference over roomette. It's almost double. Great narration. Thank you.
@TravelingWithBryan28 күн бұрын
Thanks so much! Roomette or bedroom is a great question. I've done both and my opinion is for a single person traveling a roomette is just fine. Two people in a roomette gets a little too cramped and a bedroom would be much better for two. Enjoy your trip and let me know how it goes! 😃
@thomasstambaugh518110 ай бұрын
I enjoyed this video. The northbound Starlight is the one Amtrak long-distance train I haven't done yet (I do at least one "Amtrak Vacation" each year). Perhaps because I'm a railfan, I would have preferred less music and more train sounds to accompany the lovely scenery. I know it's not as cool, but a plain old power strip works just fine in a roomette or bedroom. The ones I have provide a few USB charging ports and about a half dozen power outlets -- more than enough for my needs. My Google Pixel 7 pro has its own on-board anti-shake compensation that works well enough for me. The shots of the Pacific coastline were fabulous, thanks for featuring them. I know of two other very nice panoramas. The Northeast Corridor (Northeast Regional and Acela) between NYC and Boston travels the old "Shore Line" route and (weather permitting) provides lovely views of the Connecticut shore line. The Lakeshore Limited (from NYC to Albany) travels along the eastern bank of the Hudson River for nearly the entire trip. Dinner in the diner on the northbound Lakeshore at twilight along the Hudson is truly spectacular. Thanks again for this very enjoyable video.
@TravelingWithBryan10 ай бұрын
Thanks Thomas! I love your idea and might just do a full video that's music free and just the sounds of the trip itself! My friend has a Pixel and LOVES it too they are amazing phones! I've now added trips on the old "Shore Line" route and also that trip along the Hudson to my train ride bucket list, thanks so much for the tips and for watching :-)

Do you remember what room number you had facing the water?
@TravelingWithBryanАй бұрын
Hi! I was in Train 14, car 1420 and Room 10. But unfortunately, I called Amtrak once asking to have a room facing the water and they said they couldn't guarantee that because the sleeper railcar can travel in different directions depending on how it's attached to the train. So what I do is once I'm onboard and know which way my room faces I ask the sleeper car attendant if I can switch to the other side if there is an available room. 😃

How long ago was this video taken? I looked at the Amtrak website. It doesn’t look like they updated the menu yet.

I filmed this trip in early Spring 2022. It's taken me that long to actually learn how to edit (plus a broken wrist slowed me down for about 6 months too). Sorry for the delay :-) Amtrak has changed up the menu too and I can't wait to go out and try their new offerings. Seems like they'll always have the go-to burger and Flat Iron steak for carnivores like me lol!
