Wow, this new lounge sets the 'gold standard for train lounges. In my opinion, on par with many business class airline lounges. Well done AMTRAK - very impressive! Thank you for sharing this video.

Actually @Dennis it’s better than many airport lounges. Many of those lounges I don’t even bother with any more. Highly dependent of course on the airline/location. One thing to note is that you can use the lounge on arrival which is super handy after a long train trip

Thank you. I was surprised to see a full service Metropolitan Lounge with a a variety of eats and drinks.

@Sam Jennings the lounge was launched during the pandemic. At first, it was quite spartan, but services have been added in recent months.

Toying with the lighting of the plaza ceiling is nice.

It would be nice if he described food and beverage offerings - he skimmed through that part.

Hi Judith, when we did this review, Covid restrictions meant that there was only very basic food offerings and no alcohol being served. I guess its time I did an update

@@TravelwithMark Please, yes, please do an update. I trust your opinion.

The lounge is very nice. I went there before boarding the Silver Star to Orlando.

@Hiram Priggott yes it is. I believe they are starting to relax things like serving alcohol now as well.

Excellent video, Mark! 👍🏻 I'll be arriving at Moynihan Train Hall about 7 p.m. on a Saturday this fall. Unless my train is late, I should have time to check out this awesome lounge. (I've already booked a roomette on the LSL.) Thank you also for praising Red Caps, who work so hard. I too tip them generously. Newbie subber here!😃

Thanks for subscribing! Should be no issue to head up there when you arrive and enjoy a welcome beverage.

We see food and drink but no commentary about how it works. Is it free, what are the costs? Something to think about for your next video!

Thanks for the feedback Praveen. This was filmed during the pandemic, shortly after the lounge opened, and there was virtually no food and drink available. I should really do an update!

Is the Metropolitan Lounge for everyone?
@TravelwithMark Жыл бұрын
Nope. First Class Acela and sleeper passengers only. Some rewards tier customers may also use it. I believe it is Select Plus level that gives access.

Is the NYC Lounge open 24 hours a day..??
@TravelwithMark2 жыл бұрын
Hi Margaret. No it’s not. It’s open 5:30am on weekdays and 7am on weekends and closes 9:30pm weekdays and 9pm weekends. Subject to change of course.

Happy to see red caps. They are amazing. Tip them well. Hope to see "my guys" soon! Amtrak's original 1st class lounge is still better than this steril,cold looking lounge with Dunkin Donut seats. Panera is more inviting than this. They at least have a fireplace!

I agree with you about the Red Caps Maree. They’re awesome and I use them whenever possible and usually tip generously. However I have to differ on your opinion of the Metropolitan Lounge in New York. It’s an awesome space which I always look forward to.

@@TravelwithMark I was comparing and contrasting the original 1st class lounge with the new one in Moynihan Penn Station. I prefer the cozy ambience of the original. No mood in Moynihan just lots of light. Reminds me of a ginormous terrarium without the plants. Add plants lots of them,that will add some ump to the space.

It's New York. Its a big place with lots going on. I'd switch in another city if I were you. Please note (as described in the video) you need Amtrak Select Plus to access the lounge, or have booked sleeper accommodation with Amtrak.

It's not that good. The whole experience is not worth the time or money. From October 6, 2020 to July 11, 2021 I traveled on 4 of the 5 cross country amtrak routes in a roomette. Air conditioning is the biggest problem next to on board sewer system. If you compare the price of flying, amtrak is not worth the money. About 50% of the amtrak employees are rude and unhelpful. Inter city routes like, New york to Washington DC are great and that's what amtrak should stick with. These cross country trains need to go.
@TravelwithMark3 жыл бұрын
Hi Tom, I agree with you that some of the employees need lessons in customer service. Some are just downright rude for no particular reason. I don't agree that's worth shutting down the whole system though. As for the rolling stock...yes, room for improvement there too.
