I'm glad you enjoyed the videos. They were a lot of fun to shoot. I thought about reaching out and seeing if you'd want to meet up at some of the spots, but this was a last minute decision to wake up at 4 am to chase it. I'll definitely message the next time I'll be in your area.

Sounds like engineer Shaun Young calling out signals at Thurmond. I’d recognize that voice anywhere.

The wife and I took Amtrak from Buffalo to Savannah, GA about 15 years ago. We changed trains in NYC to one with sleeping accommodations for the trip to Savanah. The trip down trip down was uneventful except I did not sleep well because of gawking out the window. On the return trip we had to detrain because of a freight derailment just north of Richmond. Amtrak bussed us to DC (Cherry Blossom time.) We completed the trip by train. Amtrak gave us a travel voucher due to the inconvenience. Was some sort of an adventure.

At least you only missed a section of the trip. That sounds like a great train ride to see out your window.

Some extra information about Thurmond is it was a main shooting scene for the movie “Mate Wan” and its a movie depicting the start of the great coal wars that started here in WV and the lines going across the river are owned by RJ and is a great chase i have a video on my page of when RJ switched out there old tunnel motors for there new SD70s they leased from NS

Thanks for the great information! I'll head over to your page and check it out. I saw a RJ Corman tunnel motor sitting on a siding as I made my way to Thurmond.

Did anyone even get on or off at Thurmond?

It looked like a few folks may have gotten on. I saw 2-3 groups of people milling around beforehand and they all went to the little platform. So, I'm assuming they did.

Call me a curmudgeon, but I so wish the WSS depot could just be a depot.

Lol, it would be cool to see it restored and brought back to service. I'm sure there's space for the Christmas shop at the Greenbrier.
