I feel like I may have said it before, but thank you for not only recording these, but converting and uploading so many of them. You recorded a lot of history we only get to see in photos, and a lot of the time we're even lucky to get footage without sound. These are all a real treat.

I remember seeing these train rolling through River Dale at Wave Hill station back in the early 1990s. I think they stopped running them some time around the mid 1990s, I sure do miss them along with the FL9s and F10s. I wish I had my camcorder back in those days to capture these locomotives, classic video by the way.

My first ride on Amtrak was on the Turbo-Liner between Rensaleer and Croton, NY. Thought it was a funny looking train and I believe the seats came equipped with seat belts if my memory serves me right.

Thanks for the memories. Those turbos ran the Empire Corridor too. Loved that 2 in the afternoon close meet at Lyons, NY during that time.

@@xavierpaul49My special needs son thinks that Siemens, Progress Rail, or any other company that builds railroad equipment should build full size working replicas of Amtrak Turboliners with modern features like recycled ♻️ aluminum bodies and frames, Plexiglas and/or safety glass windows 🪟, Cummins, Caterpillar, or Genset diesel motors with mufflers and catalytic converters that run on biodiesel or renewable diesel, LED headlights, ditch lights, taillights, and strobe light, rechargeable batteries 🔋for the electrical systems, Wi-Fi, and skylights.

Thanks! I hope someone picks them up. I heard that they have been rebuilt by the state of NY, and never put back into service. Thanks for watching...

Nice! According to my Amtrak 30 DVD, they were used to take Columbus, Ohio baseball fans to the playoff games. And then the weary fans were back in Columbus sometime after midnight. :)

Very nice catch. It's amazing that they were running on jointed rail back then. It's too bad that they're no longer in service, but heard too that they're for sale. Perhaps someone will pick them up for something other than scrap.

Some were rebuilt in 95- 2000, at least one lasted till 02 but are now for sale, the should be saved and put in museums, like the Illinois railroad museum and possible run like the Nebraska zephyr.

European trains had already conquered American railroads back in the 70s.

Then you clearly know very little about the rail industry in this country today. Railroads are hauling more freight per mile than they have since WWII and are more profitable than they have been in decades. Yes, we are behind in passenger service but that's due more to the massive size of the country than anything else. With trucking limited by fuel costs and traffic and the popularity of intermodal shipping, rail is the future for freight. To call the entire system useless is just ignorant.

Acela replaced turbo train
@je19662008

I wish. Acela runs between Boston & Washington on the northeast corridor. The Turbo trains ran between New York and Albany with one turbo running up to Montreal. What replaced the turbo trains was shitty "Amfleet" equipment which is about as old as the turbo trains, but no where near as comfortable.

When they ran, they were a nice, quiet, comfortable ride. But you're right, they did break down a lot. For some reason, all turbo trains from the ones designed in the 1950's to the RTL's had a great deal of mechanical problems. Part of the problem also may have been they were not designed to operate in extreme cold, which NYS is for about half the year.

Even films of an old train bring out political gunfire. Egads. Over the comment about US freight service of all things. That service has proven super profitable, and many followed that guy from Nebraska and invested in US railroads. His thinking was very clear: the US had become a bridge 'country' for imports from China and the Far East terminating here and being sent thru East our of the US. Today, the Big Four RRs specialize in that service and gobble up most of the track rights to haul that kind of freight. The boon has led to further development of smaller RRs and a large growth in Regional lines. Both will help provide rail links that may end up replacing hauling by truck. And, it's my hope, will allow for the US once again having a commuter and passenger rail service which actually provides service around the country. It's going to happen, probably very soon, but will need funding and backing from the federal government. Given today's politics, that may never happen. With the feds being denied enough funding to do anything except pay for the DOD it may be a long time before anything will be done to promote rail service. But, that will not make the need go away. It'll have to addressed. And soon.
