Great pictures. Thanks so much. This July (2012) we were able to take the Coast Starlight from L.A. to Seattle then the Empire Builder from Seattle to Chicago. Both trains offered wonderful scenery but I think the Coast Starlight was by far the superior train.

Some of my best rail memories were riding in private cars between birmingham/mobile (gulf breeze), birmingham/nola (crescent), nola/houston (sunset limited), and birmingham/chattanooga (excursion). Everything from the King Cotton to the Presidential Private Car.

Love the Coast Starlight! Took it from LA to SF back in 1997. Food/service was awesome compared to other Amtrak trains I've been on, and coming into Oakland at night was a really pretty view of the Bay. (the train actually goes to Oakland, then bus across the Bay Bridge to SF).

Great video, but i have to ask. What's the point of the private car? Your cut off from the rest of the train and unless you have a full staff on hand your a prisoner until you get to where you have to go.
