That E145 is great - I love the seat layout and seat comfort even despite the cramped/semi-claustrophobic cabin height. The single bathroom in the back is the most comfortable in the industry (lol).

They might be outdated but they are fun planes to fly. Nice little rocket ships that are comfortable once you’re sitting down. 🙂

For sure, for the younger generation they might find this annoying but they truly are pretty cool little planes.

I was flying on one of these about 10 years ago between DSM and ORD. We hit severe weather and found a downdraft with a microburst. We dropped 3,500 feet in about a second. The plane and crew handled it superbly. I’m only 29 and love my WiFi, but I can understand why they haven’t done it on board. But safety is paramount.

As usual an absolute class trip report! Love seeing that Jet bridge swing around to the second plane at CMI, I don't know how long the ERJ-145 will stay in AA's fleet but if it's anything above 5 more years I'd say it would be worth adding wifi, personally I still look through the magazines so I think AA are making a big mistake, on top of that I know quite a few people (mainly the older generation) that would prefer to read through something, rather than watch or even read something on a screen

Thanks a lot Joe! Yeah the jetway move they do here is quite cool. I've heard rumors of the 145's leaving the fleet soon but no one has confirmed anything.

Hello!! as an American Airlines employee for any future flight reports, the departure time is supposed to be gate departure only therefore if the departure is at 7 and the main cabin door was closed at 6:59 and you don't takeoff until 7:13 technically departure was on time because the door closed before departure time. Many people don't know this so I thought id just share my knowledge!

Did my graduate degree at U. of Illinois-Urbana and got to fly out of CMI on an American Eagle ATR-42 once. Had a lot more airlines back then: American Eagle, US Airways Express, TW Express, and Northwest Airlink. Those two years were great and I loved living in Champaign - thanks for showing CMI! I also flew in and out of CMI waaaay back in 1985 on Piedmont - was a tiny airport back then...

It is outdated, but I really like the ERJ145. I live in LYH and that is what American (Piedmont) flies into this station 5-6 times a day with connecting service in CLT. GREAT vid. I like the information and the fact you film the ENTIRE takeoff and landing! Thanks! So many other airline bloggers speed that part up and it is annoying (for me). Thanks again.

Excellent video! What a beautiful day! Personally I do not believe that it’s worth it for American to retrofit these 145s considering their EAS planes on some routes and towards the end of their life cycle, even though it would be nice addition I feel like American needs to focus on other areas of their fleet. Really appreciate your remarks about older aircraft are perfectly good if you take care of them, that was awesome. E satellite looking great as well, I thought that Spirit and maybe United may have used that in the past before AE took it over in 2019 but it’s been a while lol, inside looks good on it! Great Trip Report!

Considering this is a regional jet, ticket prices and the short legs why do you need wifi or power? Especially the wifi isn't economically feasible for these a/c. Bring your own power bank. You aren't flying a major.

I see with the retirement of the 140s and the CLT flight having to go to the 145 that the route transitioned from Envoy to Piedmont. You will not see wifi installed onto a 50 pax single cabin aircraft. The routes they typicly fly make it impratical. The large RJs (CR7,CR9,E75) can fly legs up to 4 hours (DFW-GEG off season). They also have first class cabins so the "seamless service" concept is more of an issue for the premium pax.

No WiFi, no power? So like every European short haul flight?
@ASAviation2 жыл бұрын
I say that’s unfair to compare this with European short haul. For example, European short haul business class is not even comparable to American short haul business. So in this case, the services offered onboard the E145 are not comparable to other short haul regional jet flights in the USA. You can’t compare this product that services short US routes with another country because they’re not competing in the same market.

And I thought that some of American's LUS A321s and their A320s are ourdated. I know that their A321s are going through Project Oasis, but they still have some A321s to refurbish, whereas Oasis is conplete for their 737s.

Seeing you were at CMI at 530am,really surprised you have that much daylight going on-Here in SE Texas,its still dark,sunrise comes around 6am. I'm sure it has to do with the curvature of the Earth.Glad you mentioned about American Way. I believe it came out twice a month,1st-15th,another edition 15th-31st.Being old-school and not familiar with IFE technology,I will miss the magazine. Surprised to see one of the 145's taxiing to the gate at CMI,would think it would be cheaper to have it towed,thereby saving fuel.The 145's are over 20yrs old,I don' think it makes sense to spend millions to retrofit them for wifi and power sockets,wouldn't be surprised if retirement is on the horizon. Routing-wise it seems ridiculous to fly south to DFW,only to fly back north,past CMI to reach ORD! And yes,AE does need to bring back inflight service--a coffee with cream would be perfect for CMI-DFW! BTW,what is that pin on your shirt as you were introducing this trip report?
@JuanWayTrips3 жыл бұрын
Being further north in the summer helps. Also, Illinois is on the far eastern end of the central time zone, so their sunrises are earlier than the rest of the time zone. Having grown up in Indiana (on the western end of the Eastern Time zone), it's the opposite for us!

I can feel all the people who ask for a better in flight entertainment and wifi. But no matter where I've flown so far, I always aim for window seat and always look outside like its first time I'm hauling ass at 37000feet with 0.78 mach. There is always something to see from up there, be it the crazy clouds or the world below if the sky is clear. Or the deep blue of the sky above, hoping for the time when we will be able to fly up there with the same ease. Drop your device and look around a bit

You are right about never judging an airline because of the aircraft's. age. As they say never judge a book by its cover.

Great trip report! Unfortunately, big carriers don't operate regional routes. Those are up to the regional airlines. In this case, Envoy takes care of this plane. American only plays a small part in regional aircraft IFE but a huge part in regional operations. (Sum of the story. IFE is run by the regional airline and other third parties. The major carrier runs and funds their operations.) (Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong) :D

My Fav small jet…. I don’t need wifi, or pax screens. No mention of the seats being wider then on most 737s? They are small haul jets, not long haul..
@ASAviation3 жыл бұрын
I love the 145, I grew up flying it so there's no way I hate the jet. I didn't know the seats were wider however upon looking at it the width is 17 or so inches. The 737's vary from 15.8 to 17.8 inches in seat width so that's definitely very substantial, thanks for bringing that up.

Delta is one of the top 10 commercial airline's and the 5th largest in the World. With that being said you can imagine the huge AMOUNTS of responsibility and obligations that they have. Delta currently owns over 2,156 aircrafts and leases over 200 with some of them being lease to own. Delta has consistently upgraded their fleet especially after they accumulated Northwest Airline's Fleet. You cannot expect them to make EVERY AIRCRAFT STATE OF THE ART,while keeping things affordable at the same time. Plus on top of it the aircraft you were on is ONLY used for short commuter flights such as yours ( plus you've would've been able to have read a description of you're aircraft on Delta's webpage prior to your flight,which mentions lack of Wi-Fi and in seat outlets) Plus there's an old saying that you get what you pay for. I'm not trying to criticize you, for you really didn't complain you're just trying to be informative. Just offering my opinion
