Great coverage man nice to see some of the ALCs don't have the standard Raised Letter bores. Believe it or not, the #320 wears a Raised Letter Hybrid K5LA with a 4 bell. The K5LAM designation is not a factory designation and doesn't really exist

I honestly don't like it when the P42s blow huge piles of smoke become it so sooty and smokey and coughy if im honest. You dont get that with the chargers (at least not yet)

give some time the chargers will do the same thing

I caught NCTC 5005 smoking on March 07, 2023 at Cannon Road. Very unusual sight from an SC-44 Charger.

Great video my dude! Nice to see you got ahold of the 320 notorious for it’s distinctive RL Hybrid, that thing sounds sick! It’s sad man I didn’t expect the P42’s to phase out that quick for the Coast Starlight I thought P42’s would still lead some days and chargers lead some others but damn the ALC’s are leading pretty much everyday.
@mateojames3231 Жыл бұрын
I live behind the Coast Starlight line and personally, the ALC’s are nice. The engines are not loud and shouty that quake my house every other hour of the day. Even though I also have Union Pacific behind me. It is sad to see the old locomotives get phased out, but the chargers look pretty nifty to me.
@CH_343 Жыл бұрын
@@mateojames3231 I won’t doubt you on that, the ALC’s are very quiet for sure you almost can’t hear them things coming unless they sound the horn the horn is for sure the loudest thing on them. I’m glad you can get some peace out of them!

Imagine if any Chargers DID get a mechanical bell if maintenance costs weren't a problem, Chris. But we'll have to also wait and see until any of the ALC-42's K5LA's end up sounding wonky later on.
@eclipz4129 Жыл бұрын
We wish but that will most certainly never ever happen as the chargers don’t have an Air Supply port for a mechanical bell to be attached. I’d expect to see a narrow font K5LA on a charger long before a mechanical bell, but I do imagine how cool it would be.

Nice vid the horn on 320 is FIRE idc what anyone says I really dig that one lol, it is indeed extremely sad to see the P42’s leaving it was my childhood too However I do like the design of the ALC for more then the SC-44’s

Don't think I'd mind the Chargers nearly as much if they actually worked better than the P42s. New locomotives always have teething issues, but the SC-44s have been in service for years now, and they still don't work properly. Worse still is that Siemens has no excuse - AC traction equipment on EMD locomotives and even the ACS-64s doesn't suffer the constant failures that Chargers do, although Siemens managed to fuck the Sprinters up in other ways.

What evidence do you have that the Chargers are still having issues?
