Personally I like story for Unlimited Blade Works more than the other two. Heaven's Feel being the one I like the least. That aside though I believe that they consider "Fate" to be "cannon". Not 100% sure though due to not going through the newest VN for that series yet. ( I do not understand Japanese well enough yet to read through without at least a partial translation.. I am trying to learn though :P ) Despite me not liking Heaven's Feel I am still looking forward to watching the anime adaptation to it.

Yea.. trying to think.. everyone was effected in one way or another. Someone had some sort of loss, either someone they cared about or they themselves died or suffered greatly. Fate/Zero that is. Fate/Stay Night .. well, its mostly still people who have already been screwed over due to one thing or another that has happened. A good portion end up still encountering more strife in one form or another. ( In each of the three versions of the story if you go through the VN. However I think the one I liked the most was Unlimited Blade Works. All three where good.. I just liked that story more for some reason. )

Fate/Zero is a masterpiece. The plot is dark, mature (no annoying teen highschool bs) and just plain amazing. The character development is superb, especially with Sabers relationship with Emiya. Stunning fight scenes and top notch animation. This is definitely one of those rare gems of an anime.

i repeat it again, do not bother with the fate stay night made by deen from 2002 (?), the main fails next to the animation is that they messed up with the story. also the reason is that the fate route is the weakest route of all. unlimited blade work (which got a film, but another kinda fail by deen) and heavens feels (not animated yet, also comparable as a sequel to fate zero because sakura) are better in story line. well, no matter how bad ufotable do, they wont be worse than the deen version...

+RadicalSonic 58 I would call it more of a mix bag personally, before watching this AMV I actually didn't know people thought it was that great. There was way more CG then I felt there needed to be (especially compared to Ufotable's other Type-Moon projects), not to mention goldie's jet and the characters not having enough time to really develop giving the cast size. The Urobuchi style dark gritty scenes were also pretty hit or miss, the choking scene was great for example but the Kiritsugu crying scene (after he kills a certain someone using a rocket) was really weak. Am I just being to critical, does the CG seriously not bother anyone else? Either way I watched the show with my younger brother and he thought it was great, we both like Type-Moon, Ufotable and 100% Fate before watching so maybe it's just me.

+shadowmalik009 Yes, the cast size did bother me at times, but for what its worth I think Fate/Zero managed to coordinate the vast amount of characters pretty well. I also liked how genre-savy some of the fights were, I was preparing for Kiritsugu to how to go trough the death traps in Kayneths hotel for example, but his solution was a welcome twist. Though I have to admit there were some scenes and arcs that could've just been so much better. We spend a lot of time in the first episode with Kariya for example, just so that he can get his ass handed to him about 15 episodes later, when we have forgotten that the guy even existed. In comparison, I found Kirei and especially Tosaka to be too bland to deserve that much screentime, though Kirei got better, so... Sure, Zero got some issues, but we can see that all the characters are well developed though screentime got scarce and the plot had plenty of twist and turns to keep one entertained. The visuals (though there was a little too much CGI at times, at last it looked decent enough) are all around above average and pretty damn good in some scenes and well. Zero IS a very good show. So of course people will call it a masterpiece, especially in comparison to other anime or even the first stay night.

I really gotta disagree with jesusswagi about the visual novel. If anything, there's WAAAAAAAAAAY more of the highschool bullshit in the visual novels >< Tried reading the novels on uploaded youtube videos of it, and what I'm about to tell you is totally the truth here....the first close to ten hours of Shirou's story.....are nothing but high school bullshit >< HELL! There was a scene where they spent over FORTY FIVE MINUTES.....talking about nothing more than living arrangements!!!! (IE, the short 5 minute scene in the anime where they talk about who all is living in Shirou's house is massively and pointlessly expanded in the visual novel). The visual novel drags shit out to the extreme when it comes to boring side stuff and spends more time with irrelevant characters that are Shirou's classmates and teachers. I highly recommend AVOIDING that if you don't like high school drama thrown in. The novel does spend more time with some cool stuff as well, but.....in my opinion from what I read compared to what I watched....the anime cutting the slice of life shit down to a more manageable dose (NEARLY TEN HOURS!!! That's like....an entire anime series worth of time spent on NOTHING but high school before we even get to the first confrontation with Illya and Hercules outside the church!) was infinitely more valuable to me than missing out on slightly more long winded discussions about magic and mages >

I love Fate Zero. Finished season 1 and season 2. The old FSN isn't bad, but not good either. The new adaption of FSN is vastly better, and I really enjoy FSN. I really like Heaven's Feel and UBW's routes. (Not a fan of the Fate route.) I hope the Heaven's Feel movie will be good and have more than one. It's such an amazing anime, complicated and full of great ideas. One of the best anime's for me.

Zero has more focus on the overall situation (with the exclusion of Kiritsugus backstory), while Stay/Night focuses more on the characters and their relations to each other. Everything about this anime is perfect to me, except for the fact that there was perhaps a bit too much talking and a bit of information left out for people who haven't read the novels. But other than that, it's truly a spectacular show. The music is amazing, the art is stunning, characters are literally 50 shades of grey, and it wasn't afraid to show how dark and gritty it is.

Well, it's kind of tough to be honest. Although Zero is a prequel to Stay Night it's 90% barely related backstory and a few spoilers, like Kotomine's goals and personality, which makes his actions in the other series painfully obvious and predictable. You could say it makes Kiritsugu more of a character than a shadow, but it doesn't have almost any influence on how we perceive SN's events. If you watch SN first you're spoiled to who lived and died, which is pretty freaking major considering Zero's nature. Once again we're shown how Kotomine behaves, predictable actions, yade yada. I've read Zero's novels first and the only thing between the two was that I could watch it from kind of a "godly" viewpoint: I've seen history make a circle and added two plus two. Watching SN first would only bring spoilers. I'm gonna go to the nerd closet now. Also Zero is ridiculously sad and I wanna forget all about it.

According to word of god, actually perfecting tracing and UBW till they are correctly usable would take about 20 years in total. Shirou took a huge leap of about almost all of that and still has time remaining. He'll end up more beast than Archer.

Hakko Hei Technically, you can watch them in either order. Zero was made as a prequel to Stay Night. They both spoil bits of each other. Alex Dunn If you have Netflix, they recently put Zero up for streaming. Watch the Japanese audio, the english dub is awful. Your other alternatives are Hulu (not recommended) or Crunchyroll.

Alfred Hoenicke Yea I could definitely tell it looked like garbage. Fate/Zero went against the norm by not having a shonen main character style. Nothing wrong with shonen, but after watching so many and Fate/Zero I just don't think that's where they need to go. One of the few anime where main character was ruthless and realistic hero. Kiritsugu really won, but technically lost only because the grail cheated. That's the way I see it anyway. Also why would they make Saber fall in love with shiro? Glad I didn't watch it.

And yet I find that watching them in chronological order is incredibly enjoyable. And, in contrast to you, I speak from experience. If it sounds like I'm being harsh BTW, imagine I'm speaking in a Brittish accent. I find that seeing the characters you loved in Fate/Zero reappear really is an awesome thing. Quite honestly I would not much enjoy Fate/Stay Night if I had not watched Fate/Zero and wasn't all gleeful seeing what happened next, and how the story ends. Now ima go drink tea.

Just finished watching Fate/Zero, the second season was so much better than the first one!!! LOVED IT. The ending was a bit so-so, but I hope Fate/Stay Night will make up for it. Amazing AMV :)

Fate/Zero, hands down the best anime I have seen so far, because it has so much going for it. None of the typical bullsh*t, with high school main characters, stereotypical cast or a linear storyline. And the production value on this series just blows most others out of the water. It just isn't popular enough though. I have yet to meet someone who've watched it and haven't absolutely loved it.
