Since taking part in this, I've learned, grown, matured, and experienced a lot of seriously dark, but mentally fruitful things that led to me reevaluating a lot of what I thought was true and what I thought mattered, including some of the stuff I said in this video. For one thing, I was obsessed with being 'the best at what I do' and being 'as original as possible' which would drive anyone insane and is extremely unnecessary Second, I feel like I might've offended people with my emphasis on being an ISTJ and what I said about ISTJs, which isn't true. I don't even think I am an ISTJ anymore, and I don't really care what I am anymore. I am very sorry for that. Third, this whole thing was just part of my transitioning period. Simply put, I had no distinct personality, integrity, or moral compass for a majority of my life, and it became WAY more serious than simply making a video about it. Thanks to professional help and good patient friends, I was able to gain self awareness of what was really wrong with me and actively do something about it. I seriously hope that anyone who's in the middle of any sort of mental breakdown or on any kind of psychological edge gets that same kind of help. I just wanted to address the stuff I said in this video that I now disagree with. It was a confusing time and my mind isn't where it was, which is a good thing because it wasn't anywhere good back then. Although I know I made content people liked back then, mental health comes before that.

Also, as a side note, I noticed that picture on the wall in the background, the one where your OC is laying sideways in the "draw me like one of your french girls" pose. Not gunna lie, I never thought I would ever see your OC who is as professional as he is ever pose that way. But at the same time it just makes me wanna see more of this small, kind wolf and learn more about him, and who knows? Maybe see him in more "interesting" positions.

Pretty good topic. I know a lot of people with the same challenges of being introverted and afraid to deviate from the norm and they have gone through life with bad role models and unique characters. The best thing to do for someone who's feeling like a social outcast is to be a good listener. They may still feel the same way afterwards but there's a sense of security knowing there's at least one person who's willing to listen. I've had had my share of being socially challenged and sometimes couldn't get along with some people and when I told someone about my case back then, they simply replied "You just haven't met the right person/people yet." So after that I gave it some time and met a bunch of great people.

It's scary on how similar some problems can be. AnimatedJames, I'm planning on starting some 3-D animation work, but I know the pain of your past self just chipping away at you. All of your mistakes that linger around you. I spent the past year doing nothing but sit in my room because of my own mistakes haunting me. If it wasn't for that mentality, I'd be already fully practiced and working on 3-D work right now. Right now, I just want to do it so badly, but have little experience to go on. I've never taken this test, but it knowing what kind of mind set you have can make it easier to know where to go. At least you've had the drive to do something, even if it was for the equivalent of fan animation. Work on your craft AnimatedJames. Move forward from this feeling. I've had mine for too damn long that I don't even know if it'll leave anymore. I'm gonna pull some Gurren Laggon sh*t an say 'believe in us who believe in you'. I had to struggle to fit in, and definitely got made fun of a lot by my family and my schoolmates. I too wish I could reprogram myself, go back and change the way I think and feel about things. It's probably a struggle that many people are going through. It's good to know that you're not alone... I think with a lot of effort and the support of others bringing positive energy into our lives, we can overcome our childhood programming and be the person that we choose to be. To think I used to look up to James as a kid. How can you let a stupid Meyers-Briggs test dictate your entire self perception like that? You aren't unoriginal you've just got no self esteem. I was extremly into that "restarting yourself" moment. It is possible that you can change if you want to. If you stay at the edge of your personality a strong sudden change in your life can change you. If it gets another life changing impact it will push you further. Just like wind and a boat on water... My life changing moments were my parrents breaking up, my dad already found other girl that actually doesn't like me, but I still live with my dad... It made second impact. I moved to another house and changed school. I've made my own plans for the future... Who I really am, Who I want to be, and how to become this person... I am currently rushing to be an animator, I'm picking my schools with caution if it is what I want to do. School is very important step in our lifes. You are holding the steer of your future and knowledge is your thrust... And I have my two separate personalities. One is in real life, other is on internet. I am already there a person who I want to be... Not at big scale but it's still something. Mixing these two worlds can make a mess... So you need to merge them at right moment. Good Luck on your future mate!

Really relatable topic Dr. W and James. When I saw A.J at BABScon, he seemed like a really interesting and great guy with a sense of humor that would make any age group laugh. Now knowing his struggles and past life, he is truly a person I respect as I find people who've experienced unforgiving obstacles in their past and are open to talk about it some of the most amazing people on the planet. I'm glad he was able to find his drive, even if it was with already established characters, because although they're characters people already know, he put them in a situation that will "Never" happen given the two business images Hasbro and Sega have. Also, even if he wasn't able to do something first before anyone else animation wise, there's still something that happened first before anything else. The fandom was the first to get a person with great humor and memorable skills like AnimatedJames in it. Keep talking James cause we'll listen.

If you forget what makes you you, then you're going to turn into something new. But, why would a talented person want to be anything but themselves. Gee, I find myself to be quite like the way James feels in ways. I barely can think of anything different other than things that have ALREADY been created, when I draw, I don't necessarily have my own drawing style. I watch tutorials and look off other styles and combine them with others to create something different, sometimes changing things up when they don't seem right. I also can think of some things, but they usually come from other things, more than 1 jumbled up into something similar, but not in the least bit the same. It's a difficult world we live in from times. Most of the thoughts we think belong to ourselves, can be found in the minds we least expect. Never having a thought, truly being only yours. i can relate to both sides of this. the reason i started on youtube wasn't just for fame, but i can relate to the fears that both James and Dr. Wolf had/have. i started making videos because i was always VERY shy growing up and was made fun of and discouraged by everyone i knew, and i wanted to prove i could be better than that. not as much to everyone else, but to myself. but for a long time, years in fact, my fear of making a fool of myself/fear of failure held me back. i limited myself to mostly doing bad video game videos and vlog style videos. the one skit i DID actually manage to write would have gone well, but i was so scared of looking stupid the acting was TERRIBLE. it's only now, 2 years later 3+ years of video making down the line that i'm PLANNING to go back to a more theatrical and in depth style of video making because i'm slowly gaining confidence. i want to grow as a film maker and do more because i know i'm better than just vlog videos for the rest of my life. in conclusion, if anyone read this far (congrats by the way) i still have those same fears to an extent but i'm trying not to let them control me as much anymore. thanks for reading.

It is not strange or improbable all that has happened to you James. I myself have experienced similar trails in my life and even now I am sometimes torn up between my creativity and my technical skill and interest. I very much agrees with Mr. Wolf, you should in the end try to live your life you feel that is best; if you feel unhappy with doing what you're good at, then stop doing it, or at least start shifting step by step. The world can motivate, suggest, push and pull, but it can never dictate who and what you should be or become. In the end that is up to you, and it takes a lot of strength and bravery to make such choices, and for some this'll be easier than for others. Whatever you do mate, you, and every other person on this planet, has but 1 goal: To live a good and happy life. However you want to achieve this is up to each their own, and no one else. Massive respect for daring to throw it out there mate.

This has been a problem for me, as well. I have THE worst time coming up with even the smallest things like an original movie title, painting, story, etc. And when I try to come up with an original way of portraying a certain CONCEPT, I crash and burn. It's like I don't have enough brain power, patience, or motivation to think this stuff up, and now I think I'm the laziest person alive. I think this mostly had to do with (a) my brother and (b) my elementary school experience. Back then, I was a lot more outgoing and encouraged to achieve, but once I was introduced to shame by the first ever bully of my life, it was like being stabbed in the heart. I lost my friendly personality, and I focused more on what I thought people would say/think about me, living in constant fear of being judged or teased. My brother DEFINITELY didn't help me get away from that, as virtually whenever I spoke in his presence, he'd, in short, call me things like "idiot", "moron", "retarded", or just simply give me a look that spoke all three at once. Both of these things morphed me into an oversensitive, shy individual who fears of being wrong and being called unoriginal and noncontributing. I'm still trying to find my true drive, and while a ADORE music and the idea of being a KZbinr, I still feel as though I'm not really doing much. I'm almost positive I'm NOT, but I don't know where to go or how to change. It's like my past self and past experiences remind me to stay in the shadows and just do enough to get by. Yeah... NOT FUN. >:( Also, "child-like" vs. "childish"? I'm sorry, I'm dumb; can someone explain that to me, please?
@Toysorama8 жыл бұрын
+Devonian Roy Dude, I could just copy and paste what you just said and put it in my autobiography. I can't tell you how much everything you just said is like me. It feels so good that there's someone else out there who has pretty much an identical story. All my friends past 6th grade think I've always been a shy, quiet guy who doesn't talk much. I would love to talk all the time but I'm SO scared of what they'll think or say about me that I just assume they'll think it's stupid. So I don't say anything. If you talk a lot, you make friends and enemies. If you don't talk at all, you gain neither. I hope that when I turn into an adult I can change back into the always chipper, talkative, and happy guy I once was. Also, "childish" means to be immature and misbehave and think like a child. "Child-like" just means to be free and feel like a child. Like the friendly nature of being a child.

I say, keep talking about these things... keep inspiring others and unpacking these "issues". I personally have been working hard to accept myself and work on dealing with stress from outside people. My biggest issue right now is the realization that I'm not like other people my age and dealing with the expectations of others as well as the disappointments in myself is something that I'm just now coming to terms with. It's a very real struggle for anyone who finds themselves outside of the social "norms" through no fault of their own, but it is very comforting to know that I'm not the only one who struggles with these things.

That was one of the most brutally honest confessions I've heard in a while. People look to ISTJs to be the "Duty Fulfillers" their descriptions suggest. When they don't act the way we're used to, it comes across as shocking and confusing. "ISTJs don't do that," we say. To make it worse, I believe most if not all ISTJs know this without ever knowing what their type is. It's like a person with good looks that knows people see them that way. ISTJs are not known or expected to be creative/imaginative. To do what he wants to do will be extremely challenging. I'm an INTP, and I wish with all my being I was as dedicated and practical as ISTJs tend to be. Fixing my stupid (stupid being directed at myself) problems is very hard. I understand what he's going through, but I encourage him to reinvent himself.

Until now, I've only heard of you, and not actually watched your videos. Now, I wish I had. You're an inspiration and a great man. -Also, goes without saying, I subscribed. ;)-

DRWolf001 I actually didn't expect you to read my comment so soon since it's such an old video. But yeah, paying close attention to how you handled the interview, and the way you interact with your fans, I can tell that you're a great listener, and that you do your best to be understanding and compassionate, and you really do care about people. There aren't enough people like you in the world. ;) If I'm not mistaken, I think I had the opportunity to meet you, last year (or maybe year before that), at my local ponycon, and now I'm disappointed that I didn't.

AnimatedJames on AMWDW has been a long time coming and I'm glad I get to see 2 of my fav not just bronys but KZbin personalitys and all around ppl sit down and help each other. And to James look man your a nice talented guy who is really down to earth and I have watched your boring-ass update videos like 3 times each and all of the other vids 5 or 6 times (yes even the live action ones) but what I'm saying is that I like to think of you as a friend even if I have never met you and I think your great the way you are but if you wanna try and change yourself for all of the reasons put in this video then we support you in all you do. PS: sorry for any spelling mistakes and if I get something wrong

When I first saw the thumbnail for this video I thought: "Nah, probably shouldn't get involved with other peoples problems" but after watching it just now, well, you know that saying where after you just saw something stupid you lost brain cells? Well, after this I feel more like I GAINED brain cells. This was really insightful and thought provoking. It even got me questioning where I'm going in life. I mean, I have my own bad habits I wanna shake off including drinking, saying stupid things before I think first, and worrying too much about every little thing, and replacing them with more good or useful habits like getting my drivers license and trying to get in acting school, getting more exercise, and putting my brain to use by having good thought out plans and ideas BEFORE I put them in motion. The key word being "try" I've already been trying to do all these things, and it's really hard. But most of all, I, in a way like James, wanna not worry so much about impressing people and saying stupid childish things, but rather focus more on being myself and not care what others think about me. Ironically, the childish funny stuff makes them already thing negative of me. But what I should rather be doing is actually using my brain to think of more intelligent ideas before I out them to use while still being my self that is rather more child-like than childish like Dr. Wolf said. But this video for me in a way wasn't just watching someone else's problem, it also helped me realize where I'm going in life. And this video personally helped me out a lot too. So to Dr. Wolf, if you see this, thanks for the great job. And I'll keep on trying! :)

James, I can't say that I understand what you're going through, but I have a bit of a suggestion (he won't see this comment, but anyway) : Why not use your past to your advantage? If you have trained yourself to fit in and know what others are into, then use that to know which jokes could be funniest, or which subjects people would be most interested in. That's an advantage I've never had. I've always been behind the times, always late to the party, so I'm kind of envious of your ability to be present. ^^; Anyway, I always write really long comments, so I'll leave it there.

It's great to see a very different side of James than we do normally. It's a relief to see him get these topics out there and how informative he was about how his past life has led up to now. It's something I struggled with as a young lad, luckily a made a big fool of myself early on to realize that popularity was never really something I wanted in public life, rather, I wanted it to be among friends who could understand me for who I really am. Someday I hope to be as amazing as James is, although many people may not get my sense of humor, story, or originality, I hope that I can learn from James' experiences as I have learned from my own. Thank you Dr. Wolf for such a wonderful lesson on the topic of originality and learning to cope from your past mistakes. :3

@devilsdebt4becky7076 жыл бұрын
I completely understand James. I've realized it when I was about 14 or 15 that all I've been doing is just drawing what I've seen on TV than from something in my head. Though, even when I did try to make something new, it's always something someone's already done. And well, it gets to me a lot. Whenever I think of something, I always end up comparing myself, my art, to someone else. And I'm still struggling to find what will become of me. Will I make something new to the world that hasn't been made? Or will I give up on my dreams and fail.. It's just like when I left the MLP fandom. MLP has definitely changed my life. I've met so many great friends who love and care and support me all because of MLP. I even made a channel "FluttershyPlay's," acting as Fluttershy playing games. The videos were cringy though lol. But one day, I thought to myself "Is this really gonna last forever? Is this a path you want to continue to follow? To not be a leader, but a follower?" And I said no. So... I've abandoned the channel and left the fandom, let down many fans who I have no idea why they love me. I don't know how I'm so entertaining, so lovable. I barely even had that great of quality in my videos. It was so cringy, not even I would watch them. But yet THEY do. Maybe someday I'll come back. But for now, I guess I'll be gone from KZbin for a good while. Wow, this has actually helped me get out a lot of stuff off my shoulders. To get out a lot of things that I've been struggling with. I guess you really are a doctor. lol

I miss James, I liked his MLP Vs. Sonic videos and his Group 5 vids too. He was making new videos that seem similar to Group 5 but now his channel was renamed as "Discontinued Channel" with a masked icon. I remembered him after seeing the reanimated "MLP Polka" someone made as a tribute to him and it makes me wonder how he is right now as he makes comics of cartoon animals [I have no bad bone against some furries]. I hope he is okay in these present times, and it is nice to see Dr. Wolf's videos where he helps other MLP content creators; I still have fantasies of being in his videos or appointments as my MLP persona (which has been through most changes) if I wasn't too occupied or self-conscience ^^. -Giftbox

***** My mother took a professional course to give this test to other people and the first thing she was told about it was that it was not something that defines who you are but it is just something that tells you your preferences. You can also make a false positive on a profile in the test because of your surroundings. That is why she always has to make an assignment conversation with the people who took the test. So don't put to much value in what the test says who you are but rather define yourself in the experience of what you are. Because the reason that there can be a false positive is because people can do things that don't lie in there preferences and even be good at them. (also if you have a profile that is correct for you than it is not something you can change because it lies in your karakter witch you develop in your teens)(also I am INFJ)

It's nice to learn more about the youtuber's most of us watch like this. Hang in there James and always be yourself. Nobody should waste their life away trying to fit in so people like them. The day I graduated high school was the day I said sayonara to that way of thinking. Then I came to the internet, which I've sometimes referred to as high school 2.0, but these days I don't give in. Dear AnimatedJames and Dr. Wolf, I have only just seen this video due to my long hiatus from KZbin, but I must say, this video really struck home with me. I have dealt with my own feelings of creative issues, such as acknowledging the fact that I have been doing what so many others have. I feel the same way at times, and as such hide my feelings behind a metaphorical mask. I actually feel like you both are amazing and creative, and in fact envy you both. The "Another Moment with Doctor Wolf" series has helped me to see some of my own problems reflected through others like JoshScorcher and InkRose, and whenever I need to be cheered up or have a laugh (much like today) I go to the AnimatedJames channel to see what new things have been uploaded, and view some of my favorites. Honestly, sometimes I think I make it through the day by my good graces of stumbling upon your channels and learning more about myself as the end result. So, to close this long comment, I must tell you both to keep doing what you love doing, and that I hope that you're both happy as a result. You have an impact in more lives than just mine, I can assure you of that simple fact. So, with that, enjoy your day, and here's to another year of ups, downs, and hopefully a few laughs. Because that's what you've brought me. Thank you both, TheSlasher6 (MaskedHeart)

@DRWolf0019 жыл бұрын
TheSlasher6 I'm getting Dozens of new volunteers for the AMWDW series every month, and I simply cannot keep up with demand. Two reasons why AnimatedJames had a spot on the show was because I've enjoyed some of his past work And he offered to draw the entire project himself. Is there any way that you could stand out from all the other volunteers?
@AbyssalPen9 жыл бұрын
Not really. I have little to no work animating, I only do voice acting once in a while, and I have way too little time as it is. As it is, I can wait for my turn of AMWDW, or at least until I get some more experience under my belt and have something to offer. My only stand out feature currently is that I try my best to laugh at my problems and just take the best view of things. Optimism, ya know?

Wow James, very relatable here, like you, I took that test about 3 or 4 times and it told me I'm an ISTJ (though my friends think I'm an ISTP). I struggle with the exact same problems however, I've always had a passion for art, but I never felt as if I was original, everything I've made was just based on something else, and all I wanted to do was be famous. MLP was my first chance to get noticed, thousands of people follow my art now, but I worry about when it comes the time to make my own original content, I want it to be as popular as my fan work, but I just doubt it ever will. Still, I enjoy what I do, and I hope to turn it into a living one day, so I wish the best to you, James.

Animated James I think I have some advice... "My Past is not Today" ~Sunset Shimmer You've taken the first step, which is acknowledging weakness. This is incredibly impressive because most people wouldn't be able to do this without struggle. Now all you have to do is make a conscious effort to change. It won't happen over night, but one day years from now you'll see yourself having become.
