The worst thing is when you try to explain to people why you're stressed and they don't take it seriously. This just adds to the stress and can give you a feeling like your problems aren't worth caring about. Problems are problems, they all need time, some more than others, but ignoring a problem is not a way of solving it.

I can really relate with that. I'll admit that I'm not the fastest artist around and that caused me some trouble in private and professional work, but still I'm trying to improve. However when you feel the deadline coming I seem to lock up, not so much on the the "I cannot do it" and more on that I don't eat and I don't sleep just work. One time my supervisor asked me have I even been to the toilet during the whole day. I'm still working on my work management and stress, but one of the best advices I got was to show confidence in what you do and it will help you do your work.
@lightning-bliss9 жыл бұрын
Oh nelly I've been there. Eeyup. Though I never had as much problems worrying about deadlines in school and college because of well... a slight OCPD I have. Whenever I recieved an assignment or project, regardless of the deadline or whether or not it reflected my passions, I always wanted to get it done and out of the way as soon as humanly possible. Reason why is because I basically got it obessissvely in my head that, "If I don't get this done today, I won't have time for anything else", and because of that anxiety would kind of build up within me, which would cause irritation and snappiness amongst my friends and family, it was best that I took care of the work soon. So I never delayed any project or assignment, I always got to work on it regardless how many they were. It didn't even matter whether I was passionate about the project or not, but rather I simply told myself to do your best with it to get a good grade. That way I know I was successful and didn't let my groupmates or professors down. I guess this form of 'getting things' done though can be really stressful too, and I wouldn't be surprised if others don't do things my way. It may not even be the healthiest way of thinking either, but I argue that if it gets the job done, and people are satisfied with it, then it makes all the hard work and mental stress worth it.

Countess Rose.............. Stress can be a real hassle to deal wit, but there are many ways to tackle it and not worry so much from it. Take things on one at a time, pace yourself on your activities, don't leave things at the wayside until the last minute, and always find some time to relax and rejuvenate yourself. Hopefully, this will help you out in some way of shape or form whatsoever, and I can defidently relate from this!!!

I've always found that making a check list and breaking down a project helps a lot (though i must admit i have a bad habit with procrastination - if a task seems too large it's easy to feel overwhelmed and to avoid the task at hand). I just wish i didn't drop out of university after having a break down due to social anxiety disorder. p.s. good luck countess =)

Astounding the way you present the "Reward System" for going through an activity in which is less than desirable. It is something I developed in college. In particular during my Masters Degree. Long-to-the-short, I set times for fun and times for specific work. I loathed Accounting, Statistics, and Finance, but found ways to encourage myself to do them. Whether it was putting myself in a peaceful environment, getting a coffee from the coffee shop, or reminding myself of something I was looking forward to that would be even more fun once I properly tackled those subjects I least desired. Nowadays a lot of this is more geared towards self-advocacy while keeping a level head. There are a lot of people in different companies I am forced to work with who hold my future in their hands. I dread writing, calling, or even hearing from them. However, I know the only way I'm going to attain any control is if I hunker down, do it, and put the ball in their court until it comes back my way.

While it could be considered unhealthy the way that I manage it, I like to think I have fairly good time management skills. I tend to immediately start on smaller projects, and work a certain amount of time on larger projects so that the workload is continually lessened. The problem with this is that I tend to be incredibly stressed until everything on my list is completed in its entirety ( or at least satisfactorily ). On the positive side of this I rarely neglect a project and almost always have time to spare after the deadline, on the negative side the aforementioned stressing until this is accomplished. I have also had a large number of projects from organizations which shall remain unnamed, which I deem as trivial and a waste of my time. When this occurs I tend to draw my motivation (my sole motivation in most cases) from the fact that once I finish I will never have to think of the thing again, or some derivative thereof. I typically have a lot more motivation in actual projects such as design or fan work, but this is just how I do things and I decided that it wouldn't hurt to assault the eyes of a few thousand people with a few hundred characters today.

this is a good video for me to have come up now because i think ive just begun that reward stage after working at a job for the past four months although i feel that despite my hard work or at least what i viewed as such it just seems like more problems but i do see what you are saying tgere about getting in that mind set witch gets you thinking that the smarter you work on the difficult task the more you will earn in tge long run although things arnt always equil like that but that might just be me being depressing lol but any ways i really injoyed this video and it will be one i look back to again thank you

Loved the art style, but I felt like there needed to be a little boombox playing jazz in the background. :p But yeah, I completely relate to this and am going to try the work first/reward play when I'm in grad school for an MA in Creative Writing. I love the creative writing projects (obvs) but my weak point is literature analysis papers and those tended to get ignored because I get frustrated with myself over it. Good luck finishing up college, Countess!

Dear Doctor, as always your contributions to others reaches more than only the brony fandom and helps many others, as you point out the stress can be handle if we can focus, Force motivation could easily stop the flow of your passion, but if we focus on the big picture and we see how this is going to help others and us, to develope skills, patience or it push our limits and confort zone to become better we can overcome any obstacle, also looking for someone who can help us is a way to understand this situation. Countess, procrastination can become a habit, but we can move on from it, in any profession you will need to improve your time management skills, and you can try little techniques as doing a hard task first and in between you can do one that you are passionate about, we can push our limits and move beyond our own barriers but we cannot burn ourselves out. Doctor Wolf method of earning your fun is a good one but remember it depends on us if we see an activity as a burden or we see it as an opportunity, as a writer maybe i do not understand the presure of design and illustration but i believe that in a wide vision is the same, we can work fast, we can work in an effective and efficient way, we can everything we can, but also we have to allow ourselves to enjoy what we do, try to find something pleasent on that tasks, try to understand in which place that little piece fits in your puzzle and you will be fine. Keep creating and improving you two, your topic was a pleasent way to wake up, thank you very much for your effort, it is wonderful to see people that is doing there best to develope and achieving their dreams.

very interesting, I like it. However, doc I have a question. I think its very true that we should work to earn our play, etc. but what if we are on top of our work/study everyday finishing projects early, but work/study becomes soo busy or takes a lot of our energy, that there is really no time and/or energy to take care of ourselves? I think this is where our needs becomes important as the stress of having no energy can lead to health problems. What can we do to make this situation better even if we must work and study with a over whelming schedule?
@DRWolf0019 жыл бұрын
Kaiya Channel Become so efficient at what you do, that you start feeling passionate about what you do. Start enjoying what you do. And when others around you notice how passionate you are about the work, they will start helping you find what you can be best at.

I think I burned out myself in doing things I didn't want to do for about 7 years... So I think I've had my share of that myself.

***** Amen to that. I did a job I absolutely hated for 3 years. Ruined my ability to sit and do nothing due to the stress and job requirements and left me depressed. The trick is balance. One cannot do just the fun things or just the hard, boring necessary things. In Countess' case, I'd say grin and bear it because you have a goal at the end. You can go through just about anything if you see something worth it at the end. It's when that hope goes away that it is too much.
@Axdyn4179 жыл бұрын
I've never truely had a job, I'm physically (damaged back) and mentally (heavy anxiety issues) disabled. What I had to do for over 7 years was deal with having a mentally abusive guest of my Mom's stay with us. He's gone now though, and I've been working on healing myself from that ordeal. I had to consciously put myself in a trance and shut off my emotions to keep from breaking. 'Been rebooting myself mentally for almost a year. ^^; But yeah, as you said, that's true, you need to hold onto your dreams and hope no matter what to get through times like that. Just don't bend yourself too much to the breaking point. I know that that feels like. Mental breakdowns...OHKO.
@Dekunutcase9 жыл бұрын
***** Yowch. That's tough. I am glad you found a way to cope with your anxiety and I am glad that one of your major triggers is gone. Not everyone gets even to that point for either coping with it or getting rid of their triggers.

Dr. Wolf, I have questions related to different types of stress. How do you handle when the stress is not something that is the product of your behavior or tendencies in any degree, and instead is externally imposed, by a situation that comes up, or a recurring problem that the solution is not so easy, or others' behaviors and their impact on your and others' lives? Also, how do you deal with stress generated by extremely internal issues, like social anxiety and dealing with paranoia about how others perceive you or what you do, intrusive thoughts that won't go away no matter what you do that are either dark or upsetting, or self-criticism that won't leave you be, and keeps on coming back up, such as constant questioning of whether what you've done or said is alright, correct, socially acceptable, or if it can or has or will hurt the others around you, when you are either behaving or speaking, or even when you are doing something to show to the others, such a drawing that you fear you'll get backlash on if you show it to others, and you just can't get over your own crippling thoughts about it?

Dear DRWolf001, I need some advice on dealing with my indecisive behaviour and how it's making everything I do difficult. I've always been like this since after I graduated high school or maybe before then and it's gotten to the point where instead of choosing between two things it's making other unnecessary options that make things three times worse. This effects everything including with what I want to do in life, my own wellness, and my emotions with others. Is there some way you could help me? I don't like being indecisive, it confuses me so much, and makes my head hurt..plus everyone around me (mostly family) gets frustrated with me and I hate to upset them..I really need something doctor, I've seen you help so many people with your magic of words and I hope whenever you do get this, that maybe you could spread some of that magic wisdom on me. Write back soon when you can. Sincerely, Simply Rarity

Another great quote "We choose to go to the moon and do the other things. Not because they are easy but because they are hard!" President JFK Having said that it's a dificult balance for me sometimes. I do believe that we have to push our limits but sometimes we have to do only what we can realistically do, I guess. I started my "AfterThought" review format as a simple quick way to do reviews since I really don't have the time to do "official" reviews nor do I really enjoy doing them. Getting the images and editing takes so much time...Time I frankly don't really have especially since I do a reaction video on Saturday that basically takes up the entire day. Anyway this last one I tried to do reasonably nice but it took way longer than I expected it to. I guess in the end it was worth it though. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jGbVhX2kfK95ftE I think in my case I need to give myself some extra time and start earlier in the week, although this week my mom was in the hospital so that basically ended any chance of getting videos done. I really wanted to get these done before the next episode airs but sometimes that's not really possible, so from now on I'm not going to get stressed out if they are "late". I'm doing this because I just want to say what I think of the episode etc. This isn't my "job" etc. But I will try to push my limits at least from time to time and not simply shove videos out the door. Like anything with adult life it's all about balancing what we have to do and want we want to do and sometimes just sitting down and getting it done.
