It's rather interesting to see the MLP staff give us some rather unconventional characters, making them interesting and even entertaining.

Good to see you back in your comfy chair again, Doc. =) Anyway, for the sake of thing to come tomorrow, I decided to go back and watch the G1 special episode where the "certain somebody" appears. Expecting it to be as bad as most people said, I was a bit shocked how vile the villain was, even to a point where he threatened to chop off Spike's head. So yeah, I guess the G1 wasn't as bad as people seem to claim it to be.

It's good to see you back. Anyways, It's a real nice subject to touch on. Everybody is different, they had different tastes, and different opinions. Not only on media but throughout life of this world. It's great to think about each humanrace or a group as individual not as a whole. Take yourself for the past few days, you said that you were confused, emotionally drained and lost but you kept yourself calm when this channel was down but as for myself (I'll admit) if I had some video or even my channel that I worked so hard to build was terminated for no good reason, I'll get anxious and even inferiate at youtube or something. (This is kind of what I experienced when your channel was down.) Sadly, it is my weakness and something that I had to work on. In fact, I was studying about individualism so I can work on the characters to be as refreshing and innovative than some rather cliched and stereotypical that everybody's using over and over. Now about the G1 even though personally I can't seemed to get into the charm what that cartoon presents. So, even though I tried to watch the very first cartoon show of My Little Pony, Rescue at Midnight Castle but I can't. Even Equity Mend enjoys it but it's not for me. That goes same well with Joshscorcher and my favorite fanfiction, Past Sins, for another example.

Congratulations on getting your channel back, good Doctor. Glad to see you back, and sorry I didn't contribute anything during your situation -- I was honestly at a loss for what I _could_ do for you. But on topic: I think a major reason I haven't looked into G1 (or any of the previous generations, to be honest) is much the same reason I don't watch many western cartoons and, in fact, have been slowly drifting away from anime as well; that is, that a majority of these cartoons are stuck in that category of "intended for younger audiences" that means the creators thought they could skimp on the quality of the show itself. As much as I've fallen in love with FiM, even episodes where the moral is shoved in your face the entire time and the plotline is predictable (like, say, Friendship is Magic pts 1&2) are hard to watch and can definitely be a turn-off. Since getting into FiM, I've become much more willing to give shows a chance, but there are certain shows where I would much rather watch a few hand-picked "best of" episodes to see if it's worth watching, instead of working my own way through it chronologically (exceptions made to large epics like Avatar:tLA, of course).

Interesting I feel the longer time your around a person the more you get to know them and that first impression you may have gotten from them be it good or bad will no doubt change. This goes for people in the real world and the characters in the show. For an example Spitfire's likeability has spiraled into several directions ever since her first appearance in The Best Night Ever.....

Someone recently posted the very first G1 TV special on My Little Brony recently and despite some eye-rolling songs, its actually pretty epic. My two older sisters were hugely into MLP back in the G1 days, they had whole collections of them and, because I was a wierd kid (By the standards of the day, it was the 80's) I was actually pretty into the cartoon. G1 MLP, had some epic villains, one of whom, the very first MLP villain is returning for the season 4 finale.

In regards to G1 not having so much fanwork attention, it's actually slated to have a rather large part and focus in a fanfic I'm writing that's crossing FiM over with "Stargate: Atlantis" and having the characters encounter (slightly altered versions of) all the different 'realms' of the other MLP Generations (yes, even G3, but after having undergone a complete revamp to what's happening behind the scenes...). Look for it to start popping up (hopefully) by the end of the year on FimFiction: "A Different Kind of Pegasus Device".

Great one. As an alternative statement I relate most to Pinkie and Rarity. I try to spread positive feelings anywhere I can, I try to make everything good in details and overall combine generosity and smile, however It often find myself having to choose where can I help and how much. I often spend too much attention on details and loose my track of time. Again Great to see you back Doc >^^

Wow, another G1 fan! I am so thrilled to hear him talk about G1 this way I think G1 was a fantastic show for it's time. Yes a little corny, but not much worse for the corny factor than season 1 of G4 if you really think about it. And it had so many memorable characters that stuck with little girls. It knew it's audience and performed well for them, and I am proud to say I have every episode on DVD, though the pilot is missing a certain "little piece of rainbow" song :( I am so heartned to hear another adult, and a guy at that, finds things about G1 to enjoy. Props brother!

Episodes of G1 have premises similar to G4 rly, in that both take general fantasy settings but add more quirky monsters to they stand out, such as G4's Diamond Dogs or G1's Smooze etc.

I can relate with not liking Rarity and Pinkie Pie when I first started watching the show. They reminded me of people I hated, annoyed me or just had problems with. But now I like them a lot more thanks to the community :)

I also like the character development in MLPFIM. I only started watching it this year, but in that time I've managed to watch every episode, and even went back to gen1 and watched all of it too. Hasbro could have easily thrown in generic steriotypes for characters, but they didn't. They gave us ponies that could easily be real people. When I first delved into gen1, I approached it the same way I did with gen4. At first I wasn't sure I'd like it, but after a couple episodes I was hooked. I was a child of the 80s, being born in 1980, and I grew up with the story telling and animation quality of then, so it was easy for me to pick up gen1. I was a fan of scooby doo, he-man, transformers, gi-joe, etc. So I had no problem. I was actually quite surprised that in almost every episode of gen1 they had a villain threatening to harm them in some way. For gen4 we only get that at the beginning or end of a seaon.

They have a name for those in Japan, particularly pertaining to an anime character trope. The kudere, often disinterested in most thing on the surface until a certain person, item, or event causes them to be more openly expressive.

Do you think we can have a video about dealing with the loss of bronies and bronies leaving the fandom? Its been a rather sore point for me and it really hurts when i see it happen or hear about it.. A few of my friends also quit being bronies and i feel that i now have lost them as friends.. I have trouble connecting to and relating to them, mostly in part due to my disability.. Like i can no longer talk to them about things like ponies because it will just annoy them..

* to "quit" being a 'Brony' is to have never been one to have started with,* such the same there "is no such thing as an X Marine", such that one who quits was never truthful to begin with, and if they cannot support you in being/still being a Brony, then are or were they really your friends to start? That perhaps if they cannot be supportive, its time to find genuine friends instead... *noted, 8 months later so how goes sense then? Find better actual friends sense, or they come back around for you?

G1 for its time was a great show. It wouldn't hold up as well today but it definitely had its moments. As a child I know I certainly enjoyed G1 and even went out and bought the movie a few years ago when it hit dvd.

1- Doc., when did you recorded this? I'm curious if you recorded this before the shutdown by KZbin that's all. 2- Regarding FIM unconventional characters, I'm not sure I would agree at all with Equity about the MLP staff giving unconventional characters a good light in the world of Equestria. I believe this to be the case since I've always notice how in MLP:FIM characters like Iron Will; to an extend Zecura and quite often Mules, are insulted and looked down by ponies. and... 3- Regarding G1, since I'm old enough to remember.. Actually G1 was pretty good, I can definitely see a connection between G1 and our current G4 characters and even G4 world of Equestria, the only thing I honestly find disliking about G1 was... the human character, which I think was completely unnecessary for he show but, then again it was the 80's after all.

When I first saw the episode with Maud she intently reminded me of Master Chief from the Halo series. Why, might you ask. Well both of them do not show emotion or talk very much. And when something needs to get done they do what has to be done. So that is why Maud reminds me of Master Chief.

I watched. Some G1 G2 G3 but still find it hard with out knowing what fans recamend, but I have seen a lot of G4 Comes from old gen plots. For example the breezies, Firefly, even Twiligts slumber party in some part reminds me of a past gen. It could be good for some one to compare old vs new. Even Gas cast is reused Applejack, Spike, Bonbon I think soon you'll want to watch some G1 exspeshaly if we reimagine more old characters like Teddy or the sea ponies.

Already back in the Doctor's Office, I see :D This episode do raise a few really important questions, though. Perhaps the Bronies has been over-zealous in downtalking the earlier generations, especially Gen1, but then again, if they hadn't been that way at first, then perhaps the bronies would not have grown as fast, and would not have made Hasbro understand that this new version proved that cartoons and toys should not be as stereotypical as Hasbro had been thinking it had to be ...

As far as Equity felt about Pinkie and Rarity....I felt very much the same about Rainbow Dash. I found her so unrelateable, so unlike me, and saw a lot of her actions as negative.....I would have gone as far as to say she was my least favorite of the Mane 6 and a character I didn't particularly LIKE, at worst.... But the loving, friendly way of MLP and it's fandom have brought me greater appreciate her character as her as a whole, and, in turn, has brought me to appreciate others who are much like her. I may not be Rainbow's #1 biggest fan, but I do certainly like and respect her, even when I couldn't before.

The RIGHT part the fandom. THIS part. There are a lot of not-so-great people in every comer of the internet, but you should judge that as a whole. Yes, some bronies can be jerks, but not everyone is that way. There are people like Dr. Wolf, and I hope more people can follow his great example.

G1 MLP was kind of hardcore. One of the villains, Tirek, was a demon, not a centaur, who used evil magic to capture ponies and turn them into his wyvern slaves. Yeah, G1 MLP was Metal.

I've been watching a little of G1 and G3, I wish I liked it, but in the episodes I did see, it just seemed flat. I don't want to bash anypony, or the staff for G1, but even if it was made in the 80s, is that an excuse to be bad? Nightmare Before Christmas was made in the early 90s, and it's still one of the best movies out there in my opinion. Of I don't judge it on it's animation or even voice acting, we have better technology now, but that doesn't mean they couldn't make a decent story and good, funny and relatable characters even if it's old and aimed at little girls. I do appreciate how it inspired G4, and I kinda like Twilight. No not either Twilight Sparkle, I like the purple pegasis named Twilight. Mostly because she also voiced Cubbi Gummi from the Gummi Bears. If you want a really good show for little kids, grab a VHS and pop it in.

Gen.1 might get less hate if not for Gen.3 and .... "Newborn Cuties" from what is shown or known... (shudder, lolz) Guess could say the thing with G.1 is comparable with the hate Flash Century gets not to any faults of his but simply _because Brad_ , and due to lazy writing. That G.1 is not really given its possible due is due in part likely because of a stigma caused by other things "related to" yet having nothing actual to do with it... Hell, those that try giving G.4 sh!t is largely even still only _because G.2&3_ and the creepy fail-fest of things from them to a point. Perhaps like with Flash and stopping with the hate simply due to and because of 'Brad', and to STOP with the art-hate calling for his beheadment or banishment to the moon, or such petitions that FLASH be removed/not brought back (one of the few male characters standing we have and need more like, not fewer) as opposed to the issue of and with Brad, So too with Gen.1 of MLP, that people separate the separate and judge each in kind on its own, rather than 'Because Brad' as with Flash. That if more could be done to 'clean things up' & have a reason to care, that G.1 could get some love too? meh, guess will see.
