The opening of the second movement is what I would imagine entering heaven would sound like!

I am amazed by Amy Beach--This is an interesting piece and espectailly for its time period in America. More progressive than the chamber music of nearly any other American of the time besides Ives. Thanks for this great post.

From the time stamp of 9:17 to 18:21 is Amy Beach's Romance for violin and piano Op. 23. What a delight to find this beauty as part of the larger piece as it was originally written. I'm simply enthralled with her amazing gift as a composer and musician! Many thanks to you George N. Gianopoulos, for sharing this online.

I don't think that earlier composition is at all part of this later composition. It might be related by the general contours of the motifs, and it follows the same 2+2+4 bar phrasing logic, but harmonically and melodically it's pretty distinct.

I first heard of Amy Beach on a cruise! We were fortunate to have The Lincoln Center Stage with a string quartet and piano several times a day. They were all women on strings and wanted to introduce Amy Beach to all of us. I was immediately touched by her music! Later at home, I found some oral-video history about her at: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hX21fZWOn8-gb7c. This is 5:23 mins long and is by The Classical Nerd. It is SO very interesting and it shows her phenomenal gift for composing music, even in her head when she was denied any instruments, wow! I was completely in awe struck. I hope that you will enjoy this short video.
