I studied to be an opera singer and became one. My mom asked why I loved Amy Grant's music so much given that she isn't in the same league as as some opera diva and told her to listen to her to the honesty and purity of her voice. There's no vocal gymnastics just a simple voice. I think her voice is perfect this song. It perfectly captures Mary's feelings of not being worthy, gratitude and fear and courage.

I was asked to sing this song in church 20 years ago. I was 5 months pregnant, at the time, with my son who I almost miscarried more than once. I was literally trying to hold onto him. Some of us may at times feel nervous to share our faith with others, this song puts a new perspective on sharing faith. I Love this song; but, in 2 different ways. One is ALL About the Baby Jesus, and Mary, & how incredibly difficult it must have been for her to be carrying what her world would have considered to be an "illegitimate child"... But God . . . spoke to Joseph in a dream, & told him that it was "Perfectly Okay" for him to take Mary as his wife; & that the Holy Spirit caused Mary to conceive the baby she was carrying... Secondly, this song has proven itself to be a song that uplifts me (and others) in our own "Times of Need", for decades, now . . . I recall sending a cassette tape of it to my Aunt Doris and Uncle Lee, after he had had a terrible stroke & his words were Not coming out of his mouth correctly (and yet, his brain knew what he meant to say to people) . . . It was incredibly sad for him and his family! But, I think the song brought them a bit of Joyfulness, especially because it is ALL About our Lord Jesus! Breath of Heaven, Be Forever Near Me . . . Oh, my Lord Jesus . . .

Mary and Joseph's obedience to God's plan and will for their lives is what we can take from this story. Joseph's quick obedience also speaks to me as a father and a Christian. At times in my life, I should have remembered the quick obedience of Joseph, I would not be divorced now. The Father will not change someone's will, but he can adjust it.

Ruach. God's Holy Spirit through whom all creation was breathed into being. The breath that caused the Word to be heard. How awesome is our YHWH! My daughter sang this song about 25 years ago, when she was about 15 or 16, and, listening to it again now, it moves me even more than it did so long ago. Thanks to Amy Grant! Thanks to my beautiful daughter who sang it after Amy had brought it to life. The biggest thanks to our ABBA, Father, for his mercy, grace and love for rebellious sinners in the gifts he had bestowed on his children through the selfless sacrifice of his beloved, only Son, and "for leaving his Spirit till the work on Earth is done" (courtesy of another amazingly gifted singer in the late Keith Green. What a testimony that mean was to God's grace!)
