If our God, His son not sparing, came to rescue you, isn't there any circumstance that He can't see you through? So true, no matter what you're going through, He is by your side. Amen!!

THAT is the line that pierced my soul. I needed to hear it many years prior, but heard at the perfect time to grow. Christian's gave Amy tons of grief for "crossing over," but I am glad she did. She sang the line that got past my stubbornness. From that point, I sought and found the God she spoke of.

Amy Grant remains one of the best Christian and pop musicians of all time. She bridged the gap between those two genres, when most thought it was impossible...and she keeps reinventing her approach every few years to stay relevant with her audience. I got to see her perform live at a 2016 Christmas show with Michael W. Smith, and it was a blast.

Songs from the 80's were fun, happy, encouraging. I know we talk about the good old days. When you see what is going on now the 80's were the good old days. Not everything was always good or right. I know this for sure, Jesus is good and great no matter what time we are living in. Thanks Amy for your inspiring songs over the years.

+grown man Right. I just don't understand why a lot of people raised such a stink when she (and other Christian artists around that time) "crossed over" into mainstream pop radio. Song lyrics do not always have to mention God or Jesus to be considered moral. As long as song lyrics don't go against Biblical standards, I personally don't see a problem. I know there are some people who disagree, but everyone has different convictions.

@@judye3020 I know I'm late the game, but yeah.. Xian fuddy duddies had a major stroke when Amy Grant crossed over to mainstream pop... I don't know what pissed them off more... that she crossed over or was somewhat SUCCESSFUL in doing so. Okay, so her looks helped, but she had slowly been building her repertoire for at least a decade-- especially when she left the folksy sound of her earlier albums and went more pop sounding with her first two live recordings.. Xians ignore that the music was "mainstream" and she was already working with class acts! I remember xians having a stroke when she takes her jacket off in this video.. "my god she's stripping".. please! Madonna's "Open Your Heart" was stripping.. this was simply a good song and opened the doors for her collaboration with Peter Cetera and Richard Page.. so by 1990 she was ready for "Heart in Motion" (my FAVORITE Amy Grant record.. "Lead me On being second). I agree with you... good inspirational music is good inspirational music and doesn't have to be a hard sell. It's how you LIVE that is the true barometer and sad to say so many judgmental and "righteous" people will fail on that level-- while most everyone else live their lives day to day as a silent testimony to others of love and grace--- often not even realizing the impact they have. We remember the acts of kindness more than these fiery sermons and "calls to action". I am glad that I left xianity when I did but I have Amy Grant's albums as my life's soundtrack of that time. Music is always timeless.

@@TascamTascam No it is not. She had to deal with her ex-husband's addiction, then being kicked off Billy Graham's tour for having the gall to divorce her drug-using husband (and thereby having the whole xian world turn on her) and then having some other personal issues, then her parents dementia and losing them, then having heart surgery a few years ago. Yeah.. she's had it a little rough, but she's always had a grace and peace about her.

@Jim Allen but the different is, amy crossovered into pop after her divorce and gained a larger fan base whereas dixie chicks had a single dive down the country charts after Natalie's comments and they would go from country to pop but they would have their biggest song "not ready to make nice" & cause a snowball effect where women songs would be phased off of country radio unless you were like carrie or Miranda or if the labels thought one was eye candy pushed to record pop songs.

I sort of believe what your parents said is true. I was an exchange high school student in the northern Kentucky area from August 1985 to July 1986. My host family didn't have a cable TV but one pop radio station in Cincinnati aired this song so frequently that this was a catchy pop song to me who didn't understand English lyrics about the Christian creed very well. At any rate, this is one of the great songs during my American high school year I don't think I will forget. Listening to this song always brings back a lot of happy memories to me.
