Amy didn't appreciate Sonic. Sonic may be weak in his emotions, but he always defends himself, but Dexter remains like a lethargic and weak person.

Look, two things could have caused their breakup, one is Rouge's interaction with Dexter, and the second is that if you pay attention, Dave told Amy in front of Dexter that he wanted to go on a date with her, and Dexter didn't react. Amy has developed a habit of getting in her own way...and this stream is no different. She's negligent towards the girls and herself...yet Rouge wants to keep her employed?...she wants to help others, when she still can't help herself, she's breaking up inside. Shadow has still got Sage issues. So Shadow didn't fire her...unfortunately, thanks to Rouge...at least Amy knows about Sage in Shadow's head now. Still transferring Ruby and Opal to someone else...he's contributing to her already deteriorating mental state. Tails has problems with trolls. Cream is protecting Cherrybun. Dexter was a victim of his own bad timing...Dave is wasting Amy's time. Big, the voice of reason, he and Wendy are the most stable couple in that universe.

Everything is messed up. And Amy is lucky, thanks to Rouge and Amy can't stand hearing such rotten things anymore. Anyway, Amy put herself through a tough test and it's her own fault because she didn't appreciate Sonic and this can be considered Amy's karma.
