Beginners guide to printing on shrink plastic. Watch me create bunch of custom pins using printable shrink plastic. I have these pins for sale if anyone wants one :-)
This was my first time using printable shrink plastic so it took me 3 sheets to get to where I was happy with the results...please note the setting I used is what worked for my images. It’s not fit for all. The setting will depend a lot on the colors you used so please keep that in mind.

FAQ:
Q: can I use a cricut machine to cut?
A:Yes but it has to be a machine with a high cut pressure like the Circuit Maker. There are many tutorials on how to do it on KZbin so I suggest watching those.
IMPORTANT NOTICE: Please ALWAYS use resin with proper precautions including wearing proper PPEs (glove, mask, respirator etc) AND working in a well ventilated space. I recommend getting a hold of the SDS (Safety Data Sheet) info that every resin company has available to the public (by law). This has all the info about the resin you are using including the precautions you need to take and first aid care. Watch my resin safety video for more info: • RESIN SAFETY | Importa...

-Faux Rizzle Noveau coating resin: artresinfauxrizzle.com

Why do I use two different types of resin in my projects?
I use a casting resin to cast and a doming resin for doming.
Casting resin is usually low in viscosity and works very well in molds without much issue with the bubbles. Also the low viscosity will allow the resin to reach detailed area of the mold. Doming resin is thick in viscosity and holds its shape very nicely. It creates a full dome and tends to hold the surface tension much better than low viscosity resin. So lower risk of the resin dripping off the sides. It also gives the piece a smooth, flawless finish.

UPDATE: instead of fixative, you can also use krylon clear coat or rust oleum triple thick spray to seal the shrink plastic. If you are using other brands, always test on a piece before applying to your project. ALSO, yes you can cut shrink plastic with a Cricut or a Silhouette!!! I answered this question in the description box but some people don’t bother looking there so I hope people will read a pinned comment 🙏

Hi Amy! So I have noticed that each time I’ve used krylon crystal clear and krylon fixative on my shrink plastic it seems to not seal properly after I apply the final seal. I use mod podge dimensional could it possibly be the ink I use to print? Or am I not adding enough sealer to hold ink together? Also any tips on not getting any dust particles on images while it’s drying? Thanks!
@AmyMade
@AmyMade 3 жыл бұрын
@alba requena , what do you mean by not sealing properly? it’s not drying? Or is it tacky or not glossy? I need more info to help you. To avoid dust particles settling onto the final coat of any sealer, it’s best to cover the pieces while they’re drying.
@albizzie3
@albizzie3 3 жыл бұрын
@@AmyMade once I add the fixative i let it dry out I add the mod podge dimensional over it but notice the day after the color ran a bit not sure if I didn’t coat it enough times before adding the dimensional ? I usually just add 2 coatings

Maybe try 3 coats? I’ve had great success with just resin or rustoleum triple thick (oil based)

I followed this tutorial to make some charms using the exact same shrink plastic brand, and I have some additional tips to add on after 3 tries: - When you go to edit the image, DON'T adjust the opacity/transparency. My first time around, I adjusted it to about 50% like in the video (I use Photoshop) and you could clearly see that they were slightly transparent once I baked them. Instead, I edited the contrast, brightness, and VERY SLIGHTLY adjusted the luminosity. Of course, it depends on your artwork and the colours used, but I personally found that adjusting the transparency was a bad idea. - I used the same brand in the video, and for me, the shrink plastic had a tendency to stretch vertically (they got longer as opposed to wider). I got around this by shortening the art on the paper slightly (but not too much). - This isn't so much about the shrink plastic, but when you cure/let the resin set after doming (I personally used UV resin), cover your pieces. I didn't do this the first time around and a lot of dust stuck on top of the resin and ruined the pieces. Always do a couple test runs and see how they turn out, because the result heavily depends on your printer and print settings, your artwork, etc - but this is an awesome tutorial for beginners!
@AmyMade
@AmyMade 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the additional tips. The setting definitely depends on the art work, the color you used, the printer, the batch of shrink plastic (even with the same brand). I would still highly recommend adjusting the opacity though. The most important key point is to do test runs no matter what. I find I have to do at least one test run every time I make a new artwork. It’s a hassle and a waste but it has to be done.

Any suggestions to get neon colors to bake neon? I’ve tried all adjustments on canva and my neon colors print neon but bake to dark regular colors. Thanks
@dildofuckstorm
@dildofuckstorm Жыл бұрын
@@EnidSalamancaSnider Unfortunately I don't; it's always going to darken the colours because of the heat, so I don't think it's possible to get it to be as bright/light as you probably want it to be. It really depends on the art and the specific colours, though. Maybe adjusting the opacity would work here, as well as playing with the contrast more? I'm assuming that lightening it like that but keeping the "vibrance" is probably your best bet.

Glad to see this video of the opacity, saturation and contrast before making mine because I've had this on the brain for awhile. Although, I'm surprised there aren't a lot of people on here screaming, "You can cut this out with a Cricut or Brother Scan N Cut!" LOL! And you can also arrange them in Cricut Design Space as well but the opacity and such is a great idea to do in Canva or other program first. Love your videos! :D

A few questions: Do you know if it’s possible to print on both sides & then shrink? I read in comments that rear tray is fine but what about a front tray printer?
