Irrigation tech here. You need a secondary filter in your basement before the main goes outside to your PVB. Your well pump is picking up and sending all that sand through the system. You’ll start to have sand collecting in the valves causing the zones to get stuck open and those heads will continue to get plugged. All the excessive turning past the stops can cause the gears to strip out pre-maturely. Much quicker and easier to just replace the head when it gets to that point. Just dont buy the cheap RainBird heads at the hardware store. Find a local irrigation supply store and just buy a box of RB 5004 2.0 or hunter pgp ultra 2.0 and you’ll be good for years. When screwing the guts back in, tighten it until its snug then you can turn the zone on and grab the whole head under the part the rotates and twist the body to where it needs to be. Also, dont use the pliers to tighten the head if you ever want to get the head off the fitting. Just needs to be snug, not tight
@markusayt2 ай бұрын
Good advice. He may be pumping from the lake which could be a larger potential for sediment and suspended silt in the lake water. Most have some sort of strainer on a lake pump inlet.
@bubbamuddigger62522 ай бұрын
Hate lake pumps. Never able to filter it enough. I’ve started using the basket our supplier sells and use the supplied filter screen plus another screen inside the basket then instal a secondary filter after the pump before it goes underground to the system. That property changed the filter this spring after 3 years and i havent had any reports of plugged heads or stuck valves. Little extra money for the client but worth it in the long run for less maintenance

I have over 100 sprinklers in my yard and I have to change 3+ every year, due to hard water. My experience has been that when a sprinkler has sand all around it then the connection to the sprinkler is probably broken. For me, that is typically a sprinkler on a corner where someone ran over it, which looks like what your situation may be. Good luck!

Looking at the road sign in the background I would say that sprinkler zone is on the right of way. You could water the road for dust control.
@tacitus74082 ай бұрын
One stop on the head is fixed, I believe it’s the right margin. Turn the sprinkler clockwise until it stops. when installing in the body, put the sprinkler in with that stop point pointed to the right or clockwise margin. That will be the point it stops rotating and goes in the opposite direction. I believe to set the left margin, you push the sprinkler down slightly (while running) turn all the way to the right, then turn to the left to where you want the left margin to be. Good luck.
@tacitus74082 ай бұрын
Don’t turn the sprinkler head against the direction it is rotating, you can strip the teeth.

My house was built in 1910. I bought it in 2012. Had a mouse around 2020, not sure how it got in but once i noticed it's tracks i pulled everything out and washed everything with hot water and clorox. I've had a couple small orange and black ring snakes in the basement. Haven't seen any of those in a few yrs. But i always have a ton of spiders that i can't get rid of. Awesome video Amy. Lawn grass is way over rated. I just deal with the weeds and chop them off once every 10 days or so on the back yard and once a month on the front, front yard is all shades so it grows extremely slow. 🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼

How did the sand get into the waterline in the first place? Often it's because the pump (or well water inlet is too low). That should be addressed.
