The dedicated workspace is crucial. I have tried writing on the couch and that does not work at all for me...lol! Seriously, we turned our dining room into an office side we don’t eat there anyway. That works well for me because I also have my calendar and notebooks on the table. And I also write on the patio when it’s nice outside.

I write similar to how you approach it. I come up with the skeleton, the headings and general flow of the ideas. I work on "filling in those sections" and then adding in the media. I tend to stray from you on how you like to work from one spot and then move onto the next idea. I struggle when shifting to a different task, so I tend to do better writing the whole article, then adding the media and cleaning up any long sentences and fixing white space. Love the video.

Finding the right environment where you can be creative is important in many jobs ... not just writing a blog. When I was writing software for one of the first digital document programs back in the 1970s I use to disappear from the huge accounting and management insulting firm where I worked in downtown Washington DC . I would go to a small alcove I discovered in the national art museum where there was a bunch of large palm trees and a water feature with some comfortabke chairs and soend hours lost in my programming code.

I was writing about the topic of writing yesterday on Medium. It is strange when you write about something and you then have a video about it. The difficulty here is that many questions can be answered thoroughly in just a couple of paragraphs. When writing a short Response post that would make the rest of the article...fluff or being off topic just to fill out the article.

Great stuff, as usual. But threw me off with the 101, 102 and 103 quality levels. When people speak of 101, etc., they are equating the topic to college levels of work. 101, 102 and 103 are all freshman/beginner levels. I think the audience would understand how much more important each new skill is if the levels advance to more expert levels. I would have gone: 101, 201, 301...even to 401, showing an advancement from beginner to expert (freshman to sophomore to junior to senior).

Just realized a good analogy for how to write good articles. Remember the movie Cliffhanger with Sylvester Stallone? Write a blog post as if someone's life depends on it. If the blog post isn't good enough Gabe will lose his grip and drop the reader into the abyss of Google's 2nd page and beyond. Something like that lol kzbin.info/www/bejne/hnXEnIWajrCGl6M

Blogging is painful. My best method is dedicating a week to writing an article. I do research on Sunday and Monday. Write 300-500 words a day until I reach my word goal. I use Saturday as a day to proofread and add images and/or video. Sunday I start over. I crank out 4 to 5 articles a month this way.

Mr. Jim, can I rewrite (improve) an article that is already ranking say 5th position by updating with lot of information or should I update new info slowly to prevent reindexing?
@livingbreed4 жыл бұрын
I work at an SEO company and if you asked us to boost the position of that article, we’d go through it and add em and strong tags around key pieces of info related to the keyword you wanted to rank for or were already ranking for but wanted to rank higher. Em is italics, word or phrase and strong is bold, Text. We’d also likely add more H2s using the keyword. Then we’d look at the article in the first position on google and see what it had that we didn’t. Maybe it’s “pros and cons of...” or before and after pictures, or price of... tables, bullet points etc. we’d add in text to our article based on that analysis. Sometimes we’d look at the top 3 articles. We’d also give it to google in search console to reindex. The company I work for mainly deals in one main niche and has a huge number of sites on P1. Good luck. Income school might suggest sth else 🤷♂️.
