I think the best case against turning it into a passenger plane is the case that there is a genuine need for it in the cargo world, but none in the passenger world.
@AdmiralTails3 жыл бұрын
And even the need in the cargo world is limited. After all, ALL of that need is covered for with a single aircraft, essentially used only when there is NO other option.
@GermanTopGameTV3 жыл бұрын
@@AdmiralTails It is not used because there is no other option, it is used because it's the cheapest option. The alternative of railway transport and shipping via sea always exists for all the cargo that plane has ever delivered, but those options are usually more costly then flying it in the cargo bay. The advantage is that you can carry a fully assembled, superheavy industrial machine in that aircraft to a destination in about a day worth of time. Using rail or shipping via sea means disassembling the units, packing everything into shipping containers and reassembling it onsite for delivery. For some industries that is much more expensive then chartering this aircraft. I don't know what the actual numbers and customers are for the aircraft, but I'd bet it's main purpose is in delivering high tech equipement from point a to point b from aerospace, semiconductor machinery to defense.

The thought of having a passenger plane as big as the AN-225 gives me chills. Airbus planned on releasing the A380-900 which would result in a 6.4 meter stretch over the current(soon to be retired) A380-800 and would've been able to carry up to 1,000 passengers if fitted with all economy seats as opposed to 853 seats. I waited so long for the release of the A380-900(originally planned for 2020) and I wanted to fly on it so badly when it did come out but it never did. Sure I'd like to fly in an AN-225 to get to know what it's like but it's considerably slower than the A380 so I'm not sure which plane I'd rather fly in more.

I remember seeing the Antonov at the Farnborough Air Show a long time ago. It was much larger than a 747 and took longer as a consequence to take off. It was amazing to watch. I always wondered why a commercial passenger plane was not configured. Then off course the A380 came along,. I think with updating, pressurisation, windows and air for breathing it could be a fantastic aircraft. It would require big bucks though. Certainly the small size commercial aircraft can't continue if there are concerns about pollution. One large aircraft would cut out the need for so many smaller ones.

7:34 GE9Xs are too big & heavy, but could definitely turn the entire plane into a trijet, which would offset it's center of gravity, hence you need to eigher make the nose heavier, stretching the fore section forward or moving the wings backwards. So GEnx-2B of the 747-8 series or Trent 7000 (Trent 1000 of the 787 but with bleed air) of the A330neo could do the job better. Mind you, though, the Progress D-18 of the An-124 & An-225 is comparable to the GE CF6, PW4000 or RB211 engines of the 747-400, so re-engining them with GEnx-2B of the 747-8 (The GEnx-1B variant powers the 787) makes more sense.

As anathema to the core concept of the video it might seem, I'd have taken the wing and tail section of the unfinished An-225 and developed a new passenger-optimized fuselage. You can afford to lighten the airframe since you're not carrying outsize/super-dense cargoes but that high-lift/wide-span wing is a must. The shoulder-mounted wing also lets you add a business class 'executive' section behind the cockpit, a bit like the 747, even if you don't go for the 2-deck layout. Switching to the new GE engines _might_ let you drop the outboard pair to a 4-engine layout, but I'd keep the plumbing intact for the 'heavy lift' 6-jet cargo option.
@offrails3 жыл бұрын
In addition to charging for oxygen, I'm sure Ryanair would make full use of that front cargo door by loading passengers through it for minimum turnaround times. And since it's already in their blue and yellow color scheme, they won't need to waste money on paint.

Can you make a similar video calculating the internal space of B-1B and B-2 bomber after removing all weapons, to see if it can be convert into a presidential aircraft (i.e. Air Force One), with accommodations for staff and guests? Reason: B-1B: although not as fast as the original B-1A, can still fly supersonic and has superior very low altitude handling to potentially escape tricky situations if intercepted during war. B-2: Using stealth to avoid threats in the first place during war. Also act as mobile aerial command center. Ridiculous I know. But definitely a fun video I think!

I once downloaded a big AN-225 pack for Microsoft Flight Simulator X from Rikooo. It had many paint schemes from the strangest choices of brands - A RAAF version, a UN version, an Austrian Airlines version and even one carrying a European candy bar brand. Imagine that!
