The video was carefully co-created with members of our UpFront Survivors Community Steering Group to give remote audiences an opportunity to experience the exhibition at leisure with time to absorb each image. Some of the images are like a warm hug from one survivor to another. Others may feel challenging to be with. Please feel free to pause, forward or stop the video as is right for you. There is no rush.
An ABC of CSA is a creative resource to support better conversations about child sexual abuse. It comes in the shape of a beautiful set of alphabet cards, co-created with over 40 CSA survivors and illustrated by Imogen Harvey-Lewis.
Survivors of Child Sexual Abuse (CSA) come from all backgrounds and all parts of society, but our experiences are hidden and taboo. Society doesn’t talk enough about CSA, and survivors often lack the words to speak up about their abuse.
Coinciding with Sexual Abuse & Sexual Violence Awareness Week 2023, we launched the project with an exhibition of the illustrations, alongside a free week-long programme of creative workshops, performance and film, at MakeTank, Exeter, from 6th to 11th February 2023.

About Viv Gordon Company (VGC)
Our work is a campaign to increase visibility, voice and community with adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse (CSA). CSA remains a taboo subject and is rarely talked about outside therapeutic support settings and, because of this, survivors lack cultural and political representation resulting in CSA survivors being the largest marginalised group most people have never heard of.
There’s an estimated 11 million of us.
VGC’s work seeks to remove barriers to participation for CSA survivors and drive narrative change moving away from ideas of guilt, shame, isolation and cultural silencing towards celebrating survival, joining together and laying claim to cultural space to make noise about our experiences, rights and concerns.
Artistic Director, Viv Gordon has a strong track record as a theatre maker, arts/mental health campaigner & survivor-activist grounded in her lived experience of child sexual abuse.
