@shakycam39 ай бұрын
The book is a conversation that Dolores is having with the detectives, all in her voice with the accent. It has a tie-in moment with “Gerald’s Game” which came out at the same time. The main character in that book had a traumatic experience during the same eclipse and they were mystically connected somehow. Mike Flanagan, who also did “Midnight Mass” and “The Haunting of Hill House” among other things, actually adapted “Gerald’s Game” for Netflix too and it’s fantastic. I never thought it could be done, certainly not as well as he did it. This takes place on the fictional Little Tall Island where Stephen King’s miniseries “Storm of the Century” is set and Dolores gets a little mention in that one too. I highly recommend both the ones I mentioned here.

A few recommendations: You definitely need to watch the 1978 Canadian heist movie ''The Silent Partner'' (also with Elliot Gould and Susannah York) in which he's incredible (you can't believe your eyes lol) and very creepy. John Huston's ''The Man Who Would Be King'' (1975), with Sean Connery and Michael Caine, one of the greatest adventure movies ever made, and ''Murder By Decree'' (1979) by Bob Clark (director of classics as ''Deathdream'', ''Black Christmas'', ''Porky's'', ''A Christmas Story'' and (LOL) ''Rhinestone'' with Sylvester Stallone and Dolly Parton), with Plummer as Sherlock Holmes (who meets Jack The Ripper), and with an amazing cast, including another favorite of mine (when it comes to the older generation of actors) James Mason as Dr. Watson.

'supp, David and Marc! Yep, this is an odd pick for Valentines Day, but I understand the appreciation for Kathy Bates. Personally, I loved and hated this movie at the same time. The whole cast and acting is perfection, but the S-abuse hits too close to home. Like one in four women, I am one of those who experienced abuse of this nature (from a trusted family member). That said, it is a good movie for depicting the realism and bringing the issue to light. The actor playing the husband is so good at his craft and stole my heart, as Johnny, in Lost in Yonkers (with Mercedes Reuhl).

It was fun to hear those classic one liners again. “An accident is an unhappy woman’s best friend.” Ugh…so good! You’re right though, this movie doesn’t get the attention it deserves. I guess it goes to “Misery”, Kathy Bates’s Oscar winning performance. But she’s terrific in this too. Along with the rest of the cast. The woman who plays her boss has been in many things but I remember her as the prince’s mother from “Ever After’. I remember REALLY disliking the daughter in this. She seemed f*cked up and ungrateful. But I’m older now and I can appreciate that she was traumatized, confused and didn’t understand what was going on…or what her mother sacrificed to protect her. Anyway…terrific commentary. I love how much fun you always have with these and this one seemed particularly enjoyable for you both. Great choice!

I also thought, "Liz Claiborne" and that this was not going to be a good watch. I never gave it any chance. Then, I came upon it when I wanted to watch some Stephen King movies I've never watched. It was exactly how you reacted to it. I was so upset with myself that I couldn't gush about this movie with people who hadn't watched it yet either. As someone who has always said "I am a movie lover," I sure don't watch enough and still have the "it might not be worth it" mindset. I need to get rid of that because there are so many movies that deserve their time in the spotlight. Great reaction.

If you read the books Dolores Claiborne and Gerald's Game there's an interesting little scene that ties the stories together during the eclipse.

Wasn't this such a great movie? It's one of my favorites. God 1995? I don't remember it being that long ago. Have you guys seen "The Grand Budapest hotel"? Please please please watch and review that one next! Or how about "Running with scissors"? That's a great one too.

Right??? I thought the same thing about the 1995 part! We haven't seen either the Grand Budapest or Running with Scissors, so thanks for the recommendations ;)

Love the movie but the book was incredible.

I have read the book and it's waaaaay better. It also connects with another story by Stephen King called Storm of the Century, which was made into I think a 3 part TV mini-series. Anyway, I would like to recommend one of my FAVORITE classic movie called Mildred Pierce with Joan Crawford. Now, that's one hell of a movie!!!

Dude, just wait! Stephen King has a series of books called The Dark Tower that encompasses all his other work. Amazon had the rights to it and gave it to Mike Flanagan!! So soon we should be seeing a Mike Flanagan take on the King universe!
