According to studies done by Sasho Mckenzie, hitting the ball out of the center is one of the least important factors in putting. His studies showed that green reading in #1, speed control is #2, Square face at impact in #3 and then hitting it out of the center is last at #4 if I remember correctly. He basically says you shouldn't focus much time here at all. You should check out his recent interviews found on KZbin where he talks about his Stack Apps new putting feature where he discusses all of this and more.

Hello, I really enjoy your podcasts. I would like to hear your thoughts on “focus”. Many golfers say to me that they just can't focus for 18 holes. My response is "what are you trying to focus on?" Not one person has been able to answer that. I struggle with it myself. When I'm done with my pre-shot routine and I address the ball I say to myself, focus. I have tried a number of different things to focus on. I would like to hear your thoughts. Thanks
