Some pvp tips from a shitter Walls are your friend: Jumping from behind a wall to float out and take potshots is comically effective. Most enemies simply do not notice they are now in a 2v1 and simply get melted. The name is a lie: Despite being called "Assault" the assault class is comically bad at it, you cannot initiate a fight where the enemy knows where you are, youll die. What you ARE good at however is horribly punishing overextension and excellent flank opportunities. Any gun will do: your default pistol (and the heavy pistol im certain idk i havent unlocked it(shitter, remember?)), while innefective in a firefight, is genuinely stellar at racking up initial damage and can easily kill a distracted enemy. Do NOT neglect to use it, itll make your kills skyrocket. Shock grenades are busted: a flashbang, aoe damaging, sensitivity killing grenade is unsuprisingly really good when getting shot is your kryptonite. Im so fast i make the white scars jealous: keep an eye on how many uses of your pack you have, it is not only your greatest tool for damage, but also your greatest defense. Simply put, run the fuck away when bullets find your armor irresistable. Good luck out there brothers

Imma just sum it up because my previous comment made no sense. Use the hammer in PVP. Abuse the hell out of the roll/dodge attack always as your surprise attack because it’s easy to follow up the last 2 swings. Parry to cancel animation mid swing if you’ve made a bad decision on placement. The charge shot on the hammer preforms a 2 shot combo. Although normally the hammer is a 3 shot, the charge combo is a 2 hit but you must time it and is only useful in Niche situations

I main assault, despite the majority agreeing it’s the worst class, I am dedicated to trying to find a way to make it good as it is my favorite. You bring up a lot of good points here. one thing that I think people are sleeping on are the charge attacks, if you can stagger groups of enemies and chain charged attack either with the chainsword or the thunder hammer it’s a lot better than people give it credit for

Honestly I think it's hard to know how good/bad any class is until we: A) Hit max level and have access to all of the perks B) Actually get good at the game Some people will always have knee jerk reactions or nod their heads to the first opinion they hear, maybe assault is just a class that requires more brainpower than some can afford.

As a bulwark, I second the opinion that your distant heavy/ ranged teammates need to stop getting trigger happy and finishing enemies from range when they’re able to be executed. I understand not wanting to leave them alive, but think about your teammates that are literally right next to them and put aside the greed for a moment for the betterment of your survival. I can not count how many times people either “steal” executions and just simply mow them down from range when they see me running toward that enemy they broke while all I have is melee and need armor. A kill for your brother is a kill for you and the emperor.

Really sad if this is common, as a Heavy I always stop shooting once the enemies are flashing red unless they teammates are busy elsewhere and risk the enemy reviving or if by mistake I'm prepping a plasma shoot and someone else put them at execute range I would rather switch to another target or focus on the trash enemies, not only it is survival for the melee classes it's also ammo conserving for us.

As someone who planned on maining either Bulwark or Heavy... and decided to main Assault since those classes seem to always be picked, I have to say it really surprised me with how fun it is. I saw and still see a lot of people saying that picking Assault on the higher difficulties is throwing. And maybe thats true to an extent that it isnt foolproof like some of the other classes are, but an Assault player who knows what they're doing can really surprise you on both the amount of mob clearing it can do and sheer boss damage I think once they get a few QoL updates you will be seeing a lot more of them

My strategy for each fight. 1. Spam ground pound on dense minoris mobs to delete the mob and leave the majoris to deal with later. 2. Keep swinging on the majoris of your choice and force a retaliation attack 3. Parry that attack, gun strike, finisher. You also get 2 shields for this exchange 4. Spam sprint, melee attack, gun strike on ranged minoris. You get 1 shield each gun strike kill. Your shield will stay up as you bounce around to each ranged minoris

Tip for combat. Only attack when there a just a few enemies. If you are out of charges and surrounded simply walk backwards and spam your pistol, the enemy will input read and attack and then parry. Parry will kill multiple little guys and cause an aoe.

A lot of your talking points can be applied to the Vanguard as well since they have similar weaponry and the gameplan is usually involve grapple kicking in, melee mash & execute the majoris enemies especially if they have ranged fire; all while being exposed to the dangers of a mosh pit. The only difference being that Grapple Kick doesn’t have the jetpack smash AOE spread until the damage-based perk like it is unlocked & Vanguards can combine certain perks to literally throw their weight around with an introduction Grapple Kick into a now-damaged-buffed Malta blast to the face

Same. I started with hammer and also felt the assault was super weak when i reached Difficulty II with it. from 2 - 3 i changed to Vanguard / assault and playing Tactican in Ruthless. Since i got the fencing-Chainsword i had the itch to try assault again. Difficulty 3 was okay... i watched this video and tried to focus more on parries and gun-executions and right now im pretty happy with assault. (although the jetpack needs way more range imo). So i switech back to hammer... and immediatly wanted to deinstall the game - nopenopenope, chainsword it is! ^^

The best combo for assault is vanguard and sniper. Their cooldown perks feed yours and you can chain ground slams basically until all the enemies are gone. I’ve chained 6 at a time.

I got my sniper to level 20 dispite only enjoying it a little compared to assault because it's labeled as "the worst class"... people are even running through the operation missions instead of fighting the enemies so they can level a character faster LOL...what's the point if your not having fun? For chainsword, it is very easy to recover shields compared to other weapons. Melee heavy attack on 1st attack on minoris will knock them down quickly for a gun strike kill and 1 shield. For majoris, use melee heavy 1 to try to stun them and dow melee lights until you can execute. Chainsword is great for minoris shield gains and average for majoris by utlizing the speed of the attacks

Having any amount of contested health allows you to recover ANY amount of health, even beyond what is actually contested. This is why melta is a such a braindead weapon, you can have a sliver of contested health, then shoot a blob of 15 gaunts with four warriors and get all your health back. I don’t know if this is intentional, but it means AOEs are especially good at “overhealing.”

I really do love the melee combat in this game but I have been kind of frustrated with how it seems like the melee classes are required to take the most risks, have a very tiny margin for error and then also just have less weapon damage than the ranged classes sidearms. not to mention some of their OP primary weapons. I wish we felt a bit more rewarded for the high risk high reward gameplay loop of basically being surrounded constantly. (although how badass the melee classes can look while doing their thing is a pretty decent reward tbf)

I would say the biggest priority would be warriors with barbed stranglers, en masse those things can tie you down and choke you out REAL fast if the group has also been bogged down by smaller nids. (Barbed stranglers fire seeds on the ground that burst into barbs that poison, slow you down and damage you rapidly.) Yes, the Venom Cannon sniper shots hurt, and the small pings from the devourer shots are annoying as it breaks your armor really fast and deal decent damage, but they are not as damaging if you take a direct hit as a stranger that slams you while you're surrounded.

You just outlined an incredibly niche usecase requiring like 4 steps. Also oneshotting on a gun strike is actually worse than gunstrike stagger into execution because you lose an armor pip regen opportunity.

@@Reginald-sc9tk well I it seem I miss stated what I meant, the pistol allows you to parry -> melee -> gun strike -> execution all inside a 2 sec window. Which is definitely niche, but also the fastest major execution available on assault. Which makes it also the best rn in my opinion as I get put in tyranid lobbies 4/5 matches and killing majors is the fastest wave clear in tyranid operations because minors get executed when you finish off a major. Definitely could argue it’s alot of steps, 2 to 2.5 sec kill time competes with the snipers triple tap ttk and get you 2 armor, but 1 from gun Strike and one from execution

I think melee needs some buffs. It doesn't hit very hard and feels bad when a target its like 7 hits. But the real issue is whatever is going on with jetpack mobility. 2 short jumps and a vertical that offer nothing you can't get out of holding W just don't impress.

They need to add a spear and sword combo weapon for the assault class The spear in the right hand with the R2 / fire key. It will do thrust attacks with double the range of the hammer. Charge attacks are “power” attacks have more range and damage (same lightning effect of the power sword) The sword in the left hand does side to side slash attacks with the R1 / melee attack key. Charge attacks are “power” attacks have more range and damage (same lightning effect of the power sword). The sword will do all the parries. The L2 /aim down sights key will ready the spear to throw, tap the R2/fire key to throw and hold it to charge giving it increased AOE and penetration (like the Las Fusil) When you throw the weapon you have to retrieve it, it’s put on a timer to return in 10 seconds (5 with perks) if not picked up, it has an auto (no button action) pick up The Gun Strike function- throw the spear and lunge to auto retrieve, if you perfect dodge the spear returns to give you the in Strike option No ammo - the pick up function will punish you for bad tactics and missed shots, Leaving you with just the sword to defend yourself until the timed return or perfect dodge. With it being on the assault class you can jet pack to the spear knock enemies down and retrieve as well

I use a G600 mouse (out of production) with a 12 number pad by the thumb. I use 5 for parry and 10 for ADS. Equivalent would be the forward and back buttons on a typical mouse i think. Also a constant suspicion that enemies are behind you, thanks to darktide.

They suffer from it in PvP too but at least in bulwark's case its kinda like a chained Pitbull, you dont want near it especially near the team. While assault in PvP is where you dont get slaughtered by the stairs of doom or dive into unfortunately multiple targets with your 2 armor plates.

First off I just wanna say I'm not a huge fan of the melee, I think regardless of weapon all of the attacks are slow and lock you into an animation too long before actually dealing damage and parrying has felt massively inconsistent (Mainly due to the marker for parrying showing up way to early on some attacks leaving you open) also sometimes you can parry mid attack, and other times you can't. I've had both where mid chainsword attack I could parry one enemy yet in the same match in a later wave I couldn't in the same move. The fact enemies can be staggered one minute and then completely ignore stagger the next also frustrates me as again it's inconsistent, you can stunlock one enemy but you try to do the exact same to the next (Who is the exact same enemy type) and they just ignore the stagger. Lastly sometimes enemies will attack you one by one but if you get unlucky and get multiple staggered attacks (Normally the whip tyranids attacking one after another) they can just end you or if you're lucky you'll only lose about all of your armor and 3/4s of your health I have no doubt I'll get better with time and some of it is just that I'm not that good but even when I do everything right it feels more like luck than actually getting better at it.

When the melee feels good it actually feels great but when it feels bad it feels really bad. As a Darktide player there's glaring design issues. I'll talk about them after some practice with other weapons.

Ranged Damage is not just deadly too the assault, I say They are poorly tuned. Chaos is significantly more difficult then nids simply because of all the free bulltruck ranged damage they have.

Its a good class, its getting far too much hate, if its used properly, its vicious, i personally prefer the hammer, even though i love the chainsword, with this class. So what i would tell people, who hate on it is, get good with it. Its a fun, powerful class.

Main problem I have with the Assault class is that makes little sense. Let me explain: Every action can be block cancelled, no action can be dodge cancelled...and the whole class is built to dodge as much as possible. I tried even to dodge cancel with the jetpack, it gets in cue and dodges after you finish the action unless you get staggered. Another think is that both the Jetpack pounds, dodges and the grapple-hook can be forcibly cancelled and wasted the charge by ANYTHING that can stun you...I understand that you take a sniper shot mid-air and you get stunned, your fault that you didn't notice the sniper there readying the hit, but cancel completely the ability wasting the charge mid ATTACK, not the leap, because an ally tossed a grenade or because you accidentally ALMOST landed on the moving blade of a warrior makes little sense. In my opinion, that "50% dodge window" class ability should change in "you can cancel dodge any action". That would allow to actually make use on many of the abilities in the tree. Because, as of now, you either attack as you should or wait because an enemy might attack you and so you dodge. Also, I do not say to make us invincible in the animation, but render us unstunnable during the attack when it has started the descend because it happened too many times to get the ability wasted for stupid reasons and I end up stunned, being hit savagely and wasted one charge because an ally decided to toss a grenade at my feet. So, no. I am not levelling the Assault class over level 10 as of now until they do something about it.

Great video @Reginald. With having both chainsword and hammer maxxed out which is the better pros and cons for pve? I would assune the hammer as Assault is the only class with the hammer meaning it should be Assault's forte. I understand the pros of the chainsword being available to other clases for levelling purposes, but that aside. Which is the best option? Is it time I put down the hammer and start the chainsword grind?

Ranged enemies are the big concern, you have to either have lots of ground pound ready or fight around terrain or ensure ammo is available.

Thing is: i have no problems with assault even on higher difficulities when playing first, second and sixth map. But as soon as you are up against chaos... it is a very different story. Funny how you also show almost no clips vs. chaos...

i have only played assault, since i saw that hammer i fall in love with it, i max lvl the power fist first but it does't feel that great to use, i change to the hammer and loved it, have u try them all melee assault weapons? how u compare them with the chainsword?, another point about assault is how much u do in a boss battle for example against the hive tyrant u use your ult's on him and it stuns him, that's great but after your charges are gone u only can parry, dodge his attacks or shoot him from afar, and with the amount of desync attacks that he throws u it does't feel very good to fight against, so basically after u use your ult's at him the class becomes just a worst bulwark, if i'll change something in a boss arena it would be the ult speed regen, to feel like i am helping the team, or change ZEALOUS BLOW perk to work based on damage instead of kills.

Don't sleep on shock nades either, they are great area denial (especially in choke points) and actually do some good damage even on substantial difficulty i found

Directly hitting a zoanthrope with one spawns the arc bubble in the, and I -think- one grenade will down a zoan on any difficulty, so long as it stays in the bubble.

I don't the idea of being forced to use a single build because everything else is too weak, it is very restrictive and boring imo. A lot of game fall into that trap but thank you for the video it is very helpful.

i`m trying to get better at pve assault and some things i don`t understand what to do, the dmg taken seems too high in some situations, let's say we have 2 ToS in fron of you a bit apart, what do you do? you can't kill them fast like a sniper/tac or tank them like bul/heavy, they most likely won't melee you instead teleport away 30 times. similar thing with 2 tyranid shotgunners i'm just at a loss on what to do

It's less that the class is just straight up bad and more that it just doesnt bring anything particularly unique or useful to the team when you are already limited to 3 spots. Until the jump pack is fixed to campaign/pvp balance at the very least, this will always be the case. Not that max level difficulty is overly difficult and requires you to bring certain specs, but having synergy on the team feels good and fun, especially when playing with friends, and assault has none of that.

@@Reginald-sc9tk I really want to like assault. The idea of a big hammer and huge AOE slams is very appealing, especially compared to grappling hook. But they gave vanguard perks like increased damage taken by enemies around your grapple target and 15% ability charge gain for your allies on executions. On top of vanguard being able to use primaries like the melta... It's just a shame where assault is at atm.

Can anyone tell me if they struggle with this? Whenever i fight a Ravener, he has this 3 hit swipe move that swings right, left, and then double stab. For some reason, every time i try to parry the right swipe, it whiffs. The left swipe and double stab i can parry just fine, but whiffing the first parry ensures you get combod by the other two. WHY?

Second hit has a slight delay, you're doing the parry too fast I bet.

You mean you’re missing the first swipe? I find that that one has normal timing, but if you parry the first, you have to immediately parry again to catch the second swipe. Even if you get hit by the first swipe, you still can party the last double swipe.

There's a chance it has something to do with the internet connection, I've also been experiencing some inconsistencies with positioning of units and animations pretty infrequently, but since this has happened to me with Ravener so many times I wanted to know if it was something other melee classes were experiencing. I use Thunder Hammer in pve It's very funny deleting clumps in a single ground pound, and with the perk that recharges GP from GP kills, it results in GP's until all terminus enemies are dead Your main role IMO is the trash man, similar to pyro in Killing Floor. Jump from clump to clump and keep trash mobs off your allies.

I unlocked the double ground pound with the thunderhammer, but i cannot seem to activate it. ive tried just holding down attack the entire time and also letting attack go when flying down and holding it again, all it seems to do at best is start charging up an Aftershock. Is there a specific window i need to do it during?

Assault is a jank bad class, but I picked that on accident. Chainsword with the technique swap is interesting. But I'm getting kinda hype about power sword and its two modes.
