In Nigeria, Yoruba fry the akara with palm oil and sometimes with regular cooking oil. The akara aje (literally meaning market akara) has been contracted to akaraje in Brazil. Yoruba eat it in morning and at night too, especially the one with palm oil are sold as a night snack, and they eat it for special traditional occasions, too.

Those from Salvador are the first blacks in Brasil, from other parts of Brazil can be Congolese, Angolan, and Mozambique, we were divided into kingdoms, not countries. They came from the kingdom of Benin in Nigeria, and other kingdoms, like Kingdom of Dahomey and MORE. And everyone in Salvador knows their Yoruba ancestry, this has been talked about on local TV all the time, there is also Hausa and many others.( Theres"moi moi" here too, here "Abará")

Moin-Moin and Akara, from Yorubas. The Brazilians call their Akara, Akaraje in Yoruba language Akara Aje means Akara for trade (commercial), Akara can also be fried and given out to visitors and strangers as an offering(saara) when someone dies in Yoruba culture, this is called Akara Oku, meaning Akara for the dead.
