I visited Brazil in 2019 - Sao Paola and Rio and was blown away !! A very developed nation and met lovely people. I lost my wallet in Paris (I flew enroute Paris) and when I arrived in Rio, I was waiting at the airport for a few hours so my wife could send me money via western union when they open back at home. While waiting an airport official noticed I had been around for sometime without leaving the airport. She came and asked me why I was waiting for so long and why I hadn’t left the airport - to cut the long story short, she made a call and got someone to lead me to a taxi driver outside the airport to take me to my hotel and she paid for my fare. When I got to the hotel, I told them that I needed to get to where I can claim the money sent to me by my wife and again they allowed me to check into the hotel and also arranged for a taxi to take me to where I cashed the money and bring me back to the hotel. That was so kind of them and I thank God for the favour I was shown. By the way and most importantly- a very educational video. Thanks for sharing 👍🏾👍🏾

I don't think any Africans in the dispora intentionally abandoned their roots or culture. Enslaved Africans taken to South America, Central America, the Caribbean Islands, and North America were subjected to different levels of subjugation. Some were able to maintain language and culture while others were involuntarily stripped of such knowledge.

I know how hard you work. So today I comment just to support you. The truth is that Africans on the continent did not know what actually happened because the ones who were snatched away never came back to tell us. Our history taught in school was sanitized to not mention the crimes against humanity. Movies romanticized life in the new world. Race is so interesting in Brazil. I lived from 1988 - 1990 in Sao Paulo and I've been back a couple of times since; I'm African American. I always try to keep up on happenings in Brazil. I do speak and read Portuguese. Interestingly my French tutor who is Haitian lived about 4 years in Brazil with his wife and daughte, and about a year ago they immigrated to Portugal. We frequently discuss racial issues in the world and of course in Haiti, the US, Africa and Europe. I never forget that yes, Brazil has the largest population of people of African descent outside of Africa and 2nd only to Nigeria as you said in the world. Truth is there were large populations of blacks all over South America but in places like Argentina they really tried to whiten their population. Brazil got way more slaves than the US did. I love Brazil, Brazilians, their usic, the way the speak. It's a huge country. Beleza. Happily the idea that there is no racism in Brazil has and continues to be proven false. I love your blog. I really feel that Brazil is a part of me now. I feel so lucky, I'm from the US, I've lived in Brazil, in France which has a large black population and I've been to Africa so the diaspora is a passion.

I'm sorry to tell you, but Brazil is not just black. bWe have the largest Italian colony in the world here and the second largest German one, and the black population is actually a minority. A mixed-race person You may consider yourself black, but genetically you are NOT. You guys in the USA think that children of black people are black, regardless of whether their mother or father is white. They simply DELETE this miscegenation. I cannot consider myself white, because like most Brazilians I'm mixed race. I have black, indigenous ancestors, a deceased Spanish father, an Italian grandmother. And black children, they are children of a black man and, they consider themselves black, but despite their phenotypes, they also have the white side of their skin. family. In the USA there are more black people, because unfortunately they rarely mix. I do not know why.

because the media loves to lie and belittle non-western countries. There are problems here, but Brazil is developed in many areas. there are not just favelas. in fact, only 3% of the population lives in favelas, for example

Western Media Propaganda, They make it look like Brazil is about favelas and crimes.

Because Brazil sells itself like shit to the world. 😅 And here there are also a lot of stupid people, false moralists, really stupid people lol. Anyway... There's a good side too. In the end, Brazil is always surprising

They always show bad parts of a country on tv and tell bad news as well.

You need to check out Guyana. It’s right next door to Brazil; a beautiful Country that speaks English and the people are friendly. You can contact the Guyana Tourism Authority and they will give you a royal treatment and welcome to the Country- also take you around to different places.

I was in Sao Paolo in 2012 and i can truly say that the people are one of the nicest in the world...very diversell!!! beautiful city, very friendly people and you can literally ask anyone on the streets for help with anything ....i personally didnt experience any racism and i was there only a few weeks so i cant speak for everyone but i felt at home and will definitely visit again

@beulahokonkwo oh No!!! I'm a pure blooded African born and raised....and have been to many countries...everyone's experiences are different...did you ever visit Brazil? Well if you haven't then don't comment!!! As a traveller I can tell you for a fact that there's more Racism and Colourism in the USA where I currently reside, than there is in Brazil...so if you don't have any experiences, don't make false allegations and assumptions...

Blessup and yes... for us who are descendants of those who were taken away from Africa... slavery is a big part of our history... Our ancestors were captured and traded to foreigners for weapons, assorted valuables and money... back then it was considered just business, but our people suffered. We live in a different world now and it would nice to see a unity among all african peoples... whether by slavery, colonization or tribal wars... we all have some pain and now that pain can be used as a common ground to unite us. Blessup Maya, one Love. #NewGeneration

First time commenting here. I admire you for honouring your mom with your channel name, WODE MAYA. I saw your channel for the first time a couple months ago. Since then , I check in frequently. I majored in History and Geography in Teachers College. However, there is still so much to learn continuously and I am learning a lot from you! I am originally from Jamaica, now living in the countryside of Ontario Canada. Just love what you do. Your laugh is contagious. Keep on laughing. Blessings and protection to you! 🙏🙏

Wode Maya I love what you do, you are bringing our people together one country at a time. There are so many of our people in the Caribbean countries and Islabds, you wouldn't believe your eyes. Some of our people don't acknowledge them selves as Africans but I know and accept my ancestral roots. I have been to Kenya and loved it. Africa is a special place to me. Do your thing, the universe will lead and provide for your travels.
