Seeing your videos inspired me to pursue being a homemaker. I realized that I am much happier being home and taking care of my family than I ever was working! I would much rather find ways to be frugal than find ways to make more money. While my husband prefers to bring in the income than to care for the home duties. It has worked out great! You inspired me to raise my daughter to be a homemaker and to homeschool❤

We had some trees fall on my parents RV during our recent hail storm in the spring and our day looked so similar. Many hands make light work. Watching daddy cut the tree down, us cheering, moving limbs in an assembly line. Our society has been taught to send the kids for to school while parents work but that isn’t normal. What’s normal is family work and fellowship. Supporting the husband and training the children to be life long doers of the word. Christian’s can have fun too. 😂 I did a cartwheel the other night and my kids were shocked and worried hahaha

It was actually my youngest that got into gardening first, about 19 years aho when we still lived in a big city. He went all in ... organic, heirloom, seed starting, seed saving, cold frames, etc. I was very thankful!!! We've had a garden every year since, even though we moved around a lot. My oldest has been in the same place for about 10 years, so his gardens are the most established. My youngest bought this place about 4 or 5 years ago, so this is my current garden's 4th or 5th year. My son-in-law grows only a few crops at his place - corn, potatoes, sweet potatoes, and beans. My oldest has a lot of perennial berries, asparagus, fruit trees, and a few herbs. My youngest is trying to structure his work week to where he can have more time to get seriously back in to gardening, but they do keep a small kitchen garden and try to have a few bigger crops in the larger garden. My garden here - I'm working on transitioning it to perennials and self-seeding annuals with the expectation of moving to the opposite end of the property (more private) once my youngest has time to build me a house. And thrn Ill have a kitchen garden at the new house whike still maintaining this garden. It's just about a 1/4 mile away, so no big deal. It all takes time and patience!!! I'm thankful we didn't have internet back then when my youngest first started. He relied on my uncle and a few really solid, helpful books. We have a few copies of those books now, and share them amongst our households. If you're interested, check out my latest video ... i share a little about my gardening journal and what's going on in my garden right now (it's a mess ... see ... even after 19 years, we still have ups and downs). I did a few gardening and preserving vidros last year, too. ❤

Thanks for your video. I’m a mama in NYC! I wish to one day have a homestead but this is where the Lord has placed me. I still enjoy your videos and I would love the garden and learn how to can one day! One step at a time. I started 6 years ago learning how to consume more whole foods , then use better cleaning products and that took me spiraling into how I can live a “cleaner” lifestyle but it’s taken years. I like what you said on taking your time and not trying to learn too much at once. I’m looking forward to learning to can one day!

The For Jars lids I bought - the edges are so sharp that I've actually cut myself sr3veral times while cleaning off jars for storage!! Ive been canning gor anout 30 years and have never had that problem. I bought them when they first came out, so I might try them again in a year or two. For now, I have a stick of the shatp lids and a stockpile of Superb lids.

@SlowLivingWithAutism9 ай бұрын
@Abiding_Home maybe. I canned several batches of chicken bone broth the other day, and 4 of the Forjars lids buckled. I've never had that problem before except maybe one at random when using my large All American on the outside propane burner. I had some Ball lids that needed used, too, and none of those buckled. It's just a bit disappointing.

I just gound your channel and have only started watching this video, but I need to comment before I forget. 😊 Frozen tomatoes do not need blanched - just allow to sit on the counter a few minutes (5? 10? 15? I never pay attention) and right when they start to thaw the skins will slip right off. Easy! I'll subscribe. I'm a modern homesteader, grandmother to 8 (so far), I homeschooled my children, and now they are homeschooling theirs. ❤❤❤
@Abiding_Home9 ай бұрын
Oh that’s great to know! I’ll try that next year! Thanks.
@SlowLivingWithAutism9 ай бұрын
@Abiding_Home 😊 it's very convenient! I use the strawberry huller / tomato stem corer from Norpro (I get them at an Amish store, but Amazon sells them ... super handy during strawberry season!) before slipping the skins off. The only potential negative is handling really cold tomatoes for a long time. If you're dicing them, it's easy to dice when still a bit frozen ... however, do the dicing first and the whole / crushed / sauce after they've thawed out even to room temp if the cold gets too much. ❤️

A topic I'd love to hear about is your response to "self care" or socializing as a mom with a big family and Christian values. I don't have a big family but I always feel pressured to go have "me" time, "get away," and be constantly trying to get together with other women (particularly playdates which can be enriching for kids but are a lot more work than fellowship for me). What does having mom friends or family friends look like for you? I know you invest in time with the Lord which is the most valuable thing I think a homemaker can do with "me time." But I also hear the world, and even my husband, trying to encourage me to "get away" which I don't find very helpful, fulfilling, or refreshing. Instead I wish the message and support was around enjoying and balancing my home life more, not trying to find balance by escaping it. Thanks!
@Abiding_Home10 ай бұрын
This is such a good topic, and one that different women will approach differently. Some may find breaks of quiet to be helpful others will find socializing to be recharging, others do not enjoy those things at all. I think what you touched on at the end is true no matter what type of person you are, we should balance our days at home as such that we work, rest, and refresh as a part of our daily routine at home and rest and recreation is not something we do only when we “escape” our home and responsibilities. I would love to make a video on this topic.

lol for me the basics are cooking and cleaning. There are so many recipes and cooking KZbin channels so pick a few that fit your family’s diet and really apply yourself to trying the recipes out and learning them. How do you feel about your girls doing this type of farm work? Isn’t this typically “male” work?
@Abiding_Home9 ай бұрын
Not at all. Women from the beginning have worked hard with their fathers and husbands, and even single women such as Ruth in the Scriptures worked hard to harvest food in the fields. I think some people get more ideas of women’s and men’s work from the 1950s than they do the Bible and that’s a big problem. We must look at life through the lense of Scripture only.
