Diastolic function assessment is essential in the diagnosis, management , and prognosis of various cardiac conditions. It tells us the health of the heart function and a key component in the diagnosis of heart failure. When someone is short of breath which is one of most common complaints from our patients, we expect that diastolic filling pressure is elevated if patient’s shortness of breath is related to a cardiac condition. Diastolic function and filling pressure are most commonly assessed by echocardiography in clinical practice using several parameters, and operator dependent in acquiring and interpretation of the data.
