having had LVH due to an adrenal tumour and shocking blood pressure for best part of 3-4 years with 3 heart meds of varying types concurrently, once tumour removed and changed diet to low carb with intermittent fasting and exercise, lost excess weight and was able to stop all heart meds. The two subsequent heart scans shown no sign of LVH - so it can be done, have hope and listen to this excellent Dr. Thanks for all you do Dr. Gupta

@Andrew McDowell of course if I can be of help
@darcybrown73693 жыл бұрын
@Andrew McDowell it was moderate i believe. My endocrinologist decided the tumour was responsible for the sky high BP/ the cardiologist attributed the LVH to the BP. I was on three concurrent heart meds which only kept the BP to about 150-160/95-105 ish. Plus variety of anti sickness drugs over the period -none of which managed to stop the vomiting or nausea. Re heart drugs tried so many combinations - none of which worked great, some produced bad side effects (visiting hospital bad on occasion) and suffered many pronounced side effects to drug combinations including uncontrollable shakes, random blisters, vomiting, erratic heart rhythms, insomnia, breathlessness, etc.

Absolutely brilliant, doctor. The complex made simple! I had an ecg today under peculiar circumstances. There was prolonged QT and T wave combo in conjunction with very high blood pressure. 180/118. They thus escorted me to AE nearby, had a blood test twice for topronin, which was found non-present. No arhythmia. Electrolytes good. Threshold rbc anaemia, probably copd related. I have stage 3 copd, greatly degraded over the past 12 months. I got a copy of the ecg, which I couldn't understand, obviously, but which I investigated on the NET, giving me a decent layman's understanding. Your talk put it all together for me, very clearly. They gave me an appointment at a cardiac clinic. I'm now up to speed, thank you so much. Keep up the good work, enjoy! 😊

Thank you for giving a new heart patient hope. The doom and gloom is all I hear most of the time. It's so useful to have the facts and the sense of hope for the ability to reverse some of the damage I have. My only symptom of this problem was shortness of breath after eating. My doctor picked up on the problem and confirmed the diagnosis with an EKG in the office. Now onto a cardiologist for the Echo and possible stress test. My blood pressure has started to rise over my normal 115/75 in recent months. And I do snore so sleep apnea is a possibility. Hoping it's not too late to make significant, beneficial changes in my heart condition. Thanks again!

I wish we had more doctors like you. It’s people like myself that really get anxiety over being told things like this and it’s as if the doctors don’t really care. I always had issues with somewhat high BP. Not one Doctor never really mentioned starting me on meds. It was the cut back on salt and exercise. I would do that for a few months lose weight and gain it back. Lose and gain. Always up and down. I eventually lost about 45lbs and felt great 2018-2019. I was vegan. Had a lot of energy and all.Went to the doctor last year Bc I had a bad chest cold. I wanted to make sure it wasn’t pneumonia. So they did an X-ray. And he sat me down and said my heart was huge. I knew the doctor personally, he was a friend of our family so he was like a uncle of mine. He said this isn’t good and started me on BP meds. He said my ekg was great. Blood work was normal from my previous visit . My heart sounds good but he wanted to do a echo, sadly he died suddenly and since then I’ve been terrified about my heart. Never got the echo. He told me it could be reversed if I eat better and work out. However now I’m having More palpitations. Anxiety through the roof. I picked up 18lbs since last December. Everything that excites me causes more pvcs. I’m scared to work out. Everything makes me feel nervous. I finally went to the doctor last week. My dr didn’t seem bothered when I told her about my heart enlargement diagnosis and I guess she looked at my record and said she seen a slight enlargement but nothing alarming she did another ekg and that was great. I recently started taking anxiety meds. I told her I would feel more comfortable just having a echo done and she said am I sure? Bc it can be costly if my insurance doesn’t cover most of it. It’s like she’s making me feel like I’m worrying over nothing. A year ago my doctor basically made me feel like I was dying by saying this isn’t good at all. Now I have a doctor saying well I can try to put in a order if that’s what you want. So I have an echo coming up at the end of the month and I’m just terrified that the years of me having high BP and damage to the heart can’t be reversed and eventually I’ll die of heart failure. I’m only 32. I’m married with two small kids and just the thought of me leaving early over my mistakes of eating bad as a young kid will cost me my life is depressing. I have no shortness of breath, no swelling, BP is normal. 115/74 . But still having more frequent pvcs.

Hi. I'm 75 years old and have LVH after a heart attack in my left ventrical 15 years ago. I was overweight but a year ago I became Vegan (no meat. dairy, oils, low sugar and low salt) and lost 40 lbs. Now :175 lbs., at 5' 6". I see a cardiologist that is trying to bring my BP and pulse rate down with meds. I hsve A-Fib, but my pulse stays around 82. I feel O.K. but with an occasional swelling of the legs and shortness of breath in bed if I have some restaurant food with hidden salt, but it goes away with two days of diuretics. I am seeing my cardiologist in a few days for lab work and ECHO test. I may ask for another med as just the Carvedilol and Olmesartan doesn't seem to be bringing my BP down: 159/123 P 82.

Symptoms gets little better during and after medication but it starts again. In June I noticed non-stop heart palps and SOB but also being an anxiety sufferer, it was easy to write off. I went today and here I sit, Holter monitor attached, confirmed LVH and I don't know what else yet. I've spent more than half the day upset that I'm too young for this and terrified at what appears to be a condition with little to no cure. Is there anyway you can talk about the importance of salt consumption, please?
@checkdat83 жыл бұрын
Salt is important part of our body. Salt: Na (40%)+ Cl (60%) General recommendation is no more than 6gm of Salt a day. Means 2400mg or 2.4gm of Sodium a day. Body needs only 1gm or 1000mg of Sodium to work effectively. (That includes anything that contains salt like sauce, noodles, pasta, bread, biscuits etc) Means Half a tsp is more than enough for your body to work. It is very essential for proper functioning of heart and brain. More salt you eat more your body retains water. Less you eat less water is retained. SOS free and vegan followers tend to lose weight very rapidly as salt can be found naturally in veggies. You don't need anymore help from outside as long as you eat plenty of veggies and fruits. Don't drink more than 2L of fluids. Excessive consumption of fluids can lead to Hypo or Hypernatreamia

I was born with Turners and have hlab-27 factor. I have Aortic Stenosis due to a surgical fix of Aortic Coarctation (bcav) and Left VSD left unfixed. Mouth full. 😂 I had a hard time in my early adulthood trying to explain why it is different than just having high blood pressure alone. Without an structural cause. Why I was scared to have bio children or needed help moving boxes etc. Cause I “look ok, therefore I am complaining and lying about certain exercises being actually dangerous for me”. I continue to this day to be told “Well are you not fixed yet?”. “Why won’t they fix you”? “Do you just want to live like that ..” lad da ya da. Think society on a whole thinks that (1) Cardio Surgery fixes a person back to a state that is exactly like those without heart problems to begin with …. IE: Do this to equal 💯 fix. (Untrue for many many many folks … does not work like that) (2) That Hypertrophy is not dangerous and one just needs to never eat salt or exercise more frequently (untrue). IE: It is the fault of patient. (Not doctors, obvi. they understand, …but society) I have had folks hide salt on tall shelf from me thinking that somehow I caused my own congenital heart problems 🤦🏼♀️ My parents went to cardio appts. So they understood more than most in my life. But, I wish those Children’s Hosp. Heart books were created for adults 😊. I know it is 2-5th grade lol. But the basics in anatomy and circulation information review could be helpful for those who care about/live with those folks living with heart disease/illness. And instill more compassion and understanding. It would be helpful for family and friends support in general. Those illustrations they used to do in Pediatrics on the white boards or note pad, are not always unhelpful to the adult support system 😆. That is what I mean to say.

I have all the symptoms. I have a enlarged heart. The cardiologist says everything is fine. When I'm getting dizzy and feeling short of breath everything is not fine. Idk how some of these doctors become doctors if they are not gonna listen to there patients. I don't just go to the doctor because I wanna go I go because there is a reason. I personally don't have a grudge against any of them. Let's figure out what is wrong when I say my symptoms. I know my body and when something is off.

Thanks for another great video Dr. Gupta! So a family member (47/M) recently received his Transthoracic Echo Report results (tested due to Paroxysmal atrial fibrillation) test notes included : 'Mildly dilated left atrium' 'Trace mitral regurgitation in the Mitral valve' 'Trace pulmonary regurgitation in the Pulmonic valve' My question is, are these regurgitations preventable / correctable / a major concern? And dialated atrium....does that mean an enlarged heart? Sounds scary Kind regards and stay safe and healthy

Been enjoying your videos! I like how you explain things - very logically, very methodically. Is LVH the same as, or does it cause congestive heart failure? Is there a relation between the two? Please keep the videos coming! Thank you!

Yes it does have to do with diet too. Stress etc. Healthy eating is good. If you eat sugar salt fast food. When you fast is good. Like the other person said, in between fast. I see the difference. It went from severe the moderate. Back and forth. Yes BP is a big part of it. I have had cardiomegaly since I was 5.

Upshot: all the new and old studies based on hypertrophy correlation with mortality use pre 1990 data or at lease pre 2000. So there is no proof that reducing hypertrophy reduces mortality. Ie hypertrophy is just a proxy for high bp and vascular problems. The heart can adapt over a with range of demands just like any muscle, there is nothing pathological about a more muscular heart (eg, in athletes). The LIFE study paper claiming mortality was lower in lower hypertrophy after reduction of heart size on ARB and beta blockers didn't prove that either, because there was no placebo control (ie the most hypertrophied would still be the most hypertrophied afterwards, among the participants). Otoh it is known that bp meds cause a huge range of problems, kidney disease, maladaptation, hypoxia, etc. Whether they safeguard the heart is complete speculation, and since hypertrophy doesn't make the heart weaker, the heart wasn't the problem to begin with. What we do know is that vascular damage leads to heart attacks and strokes, and that vascular problems are caused by drugs and malnutrition. You just can't get clear mortality data for bp meds. The vaunted SPRINT trial which showed a slight mortality advantage with heavier bp treatment, excluded diabetes and ckd patients (proteinuria or polycistic). It only included patients with vascular disease. And the aggressive treatment had more severe side effects. They also excluded prior strokes or vascular events. Or heart failure. Or psychiatric factors. 11% on the aggressive bp treatment experienced kidney failure or acute kidney injury, vs 8% on the standard bp treatment, for patients over 75. They also fudged the numbers. The over 75 over half experienced severe events (life threatening), while for the total population they only included the severe events they thought were related to the bp medication (seriously?). So if you only look at the over 75, granted that's pretty old, but half experiencing life threatening events during the trial. In any case, their attribution of drug caused life threatening and fatal events was double in the aggressive treatment around 5%. Whereas mortality was between 3% and 4% in both groups. If there ever was a wash. Conversely the ACROSS study which included diabetes patients showed higher mortality with aggressive BP medication. So I'd say other than imparting side effect diseases, it's a bunch of crap. Unless your vascular system is decrepit so you need to make sure you don't stress it in any way, and, that is your only problem.

I’m 38, athletic built. I’ve been diagnosed with LVH, I’m not sure of the percentage of how thick the wall is. My BP is 120/86 regularly but I’ve been getting arrhythmia, it’s annoying. My cardiologist put me on 25mg Metoprolol Succinate ER. Im not gonna lie I’m living in fear.
