He showed that he can take him out (first fight), and during second fight he led him as far as possible so he would be able to kill sonic without anyone protecting him. During Generations homever Shadow was able to beat Mephiles only because Mephiles had no plan and from what I seen he was severly weakend due to being erased.

@@forrygaming1617 Or, you know, the more simple, less headcanony answer, shadow has gotten leaps and bounds stronger seeing as he casually solos metal overlord who previously took 3 super forms working together at their best to defeat. Even in 06 what mephilis showed wasn't that he could take shadow out whenever he wanted. He literally lost the first fight then snuck shadow when he let his guard down. The end credits literally has shadow fighting against mephilis with the power of two emeralds and blazing through multiple clones of him when he takes his rings off. Shadow's just stronger.
