"Infesting like ants" is a very accurate way to describe how AI progress. Each iteration improves when one of them goes further, just like an ant trail goes beyond because the one in front leaves their scent so the others can follow it. Knowledge gets passed on little by little to the next one.

Honestly this sort of content is one of the best parts of being a Pokemon fan to me. The ones that dissect the game, or the ones that use the game to further explore concepts, all of that are just so incredibly neat. I love being a fan of something that allows people to explore technology or ideas that they spend months or even years on, and being able to see those projects come to fruition.

There's something simultaneously super interesting and super terrifying about the idea that we can basically pump a virtual AI full of virtual dopamine which not only teaches the AI how to do things right but also can cause it virtual trauma when it loses a bunch of that virtual dopamine.

you have to remember that the 300 days were probably only like a month or two in-real time as he says: 300 SIMULATED days meaning that his dozens of agents at a time all spend time on it and eventually, adding the playtime of each agent causes it to be 300 days

I would guess that the "all paths" video was done by taking all the footage, stacking them on top of each other and then putting them all at the same opacity level, which is why there's a bunch of ghostly versions of Red; all the solid-ish ones are the ones where the program has done the same thing multiple times.

This one I would say is really cool. This is akin to that of watching each and EVERY Tool Assisted Speedrunning attempt that I saw on the NES/Famicom version of Super Mario Bros. 1. And it's really cool as you get to see each and every attempt of this game occur ALL at the same time. I thought it was going to be someone explaining how they programmed an AI (like the Lara Croft one) to Play Tomb Raider. But instead of Tomb Raider, it's Pokemon Red/Blue (Red & Green In Japan).

I don’t know how he edited this either, but there was a dude that ran super Mario brothers in 2020 and he did thousands and thousands of runs and showed all of his attempts just like the intro throughout the entire video and by the end he may be had 40 that made it all the way

Patterz being impressed by relatively basic AI is really funny. Because all this is the same algorithm that was taught to play Super Mario Bros. It is just bumbling about until something works and keeps that in. This process took years and over many different iterations of algorithms and brownie points given.

So, about AI- even the numbers aren't being tracked here. The AI does not know base power, unless it was trained to check for it and know what it is. It does not know Brock. It knows that gym room is new, and that this area makes fight happen. Eventually, I feel like the AI would be able to learn type matchups, base power, and maybe even building a more diverse team, but it would take a very, very long time using this method, and a lot of adjustments and additions to the reward function.
