I wish he could keep this beautiful boat ..and have guys like me and you to come by and take him sailing when he was in the mood. ..

I know it! When he said he’d probably keep her if he could find regular crew, I wanted to offer my services - but, alas, that’s just not practical. But totally agree with you.

I’m the son of the boat owner & very fond memories of sailing the boat just a couple summers ago. I’d hope to again but it isn’t in the cards just now and I feel a boat Like this should be used more than the once or twice or thrice I’d be able to enjoy her myself. The hosts did an excellent job & there are videos of her sailing in it.

Thank you! Yes, an incredible boat. We had a ton of fun filming her, though it was an extremely cold day! Hope she sells…

Thats one hell of a boat. Awesome story about the keel timber coming from an oak in the original owner's yard. Thats cool.

She is! I totally blew that though…my hearing is awful. But it is a cool story nonetheless!

My father built a Crocker Gull 30 ft sloop, Port Oregon white cedar on oak frames and launched in 1965. He sold her in 1978 and bought a Tartan 30, glass construction. He swore, the maintenance on either boat was the same. Beautiful boat, thanks for the tour.

Thank you, David! Pick your poison, right? Both require effort. Thanks for watching!

I appreciated seeing your comment. My closest friend ( now gone sadly) built a 30’ Crocker Gull…strip planked and then epoxied. After a few years of him voyaging with his family, I was very lucky to get to help him sail the boat home to CT from St Thomas, USVI. We went through a major storm that broke our Aries vane, but that boat was safe, dry and rock solid. A strip planked epoxied boat done right is every bit as good as glass. Obviously, other types of wooden construction might get tough to care for with age. Let’s hope the right person buys this pretty boat and honors the late, great Joel White in how he/she cares for her.

Nice boat ... good size, clean below, dry bilge, and good headroom. Very tempting ... but the wood still scares the hell out of me.

I enjoyed seeing this beautiful wooden ketch. I hope you turn on your mike for the next boat tour. The owner was easily heard, but I had some trouble hearing you.

We’re still learning about the darn mics…especially within the confines of a boat. We’re slowly getting the hang of it. It was also about 6 degrees out that day - nothing wanted to work! :)

Nice well maintained boat. No matter what the owner says, wooden boats do require a lot of maintenance. I owned a 1936 wooden cruiser from 2007 to 2022 and it took a good deal of work every year. At the very least the boat will need new paint every year to keep it looking good. My wooden boat days are behind me, but a new woody like that will be a good choice for someone who catches the wooden boat bug. What will sell that boat is its provenance and a Brooklin Boat Yard build. Like a Ralph Stanley Friendship Sloop here on MDI.

That is my idea of a perfect boat. If I was younger (presently 84) and wealthier I would buy this boat straight away.

I noticed all the brightwork had been painted over. Usually the first step in reducing maintenance hours.

Been watching this boat since she came on the market last year. There are pictures of her with water in the bilge, and I wrote the owner to ask what he could tell me about that. And despite numerous attempts, he never answered me so something is up With the hull I suspect

Did you try contacting Artisan Boatworks? I noticed that picture too but Jack said he actually removed one of the electric bilge pumps because it wasn’t needed. There is also a survey available. Thanks for watching!
@boatfools
@boatfools 10 ай бұрын
I would also add, and this isn’t to say there isn’t a problem, but most boats, wood and fiberglass, will have some water in the bilge, especially if they have a stuffing box, etc. So, I would say that if there isn’t an underlying problem, then some water in the bilge wouldn’t be unusual. I would contact Artisan Boatworks with any additional questions. They are great. I love this boat. She seems very seaworthy.

You don’t have to pump the EB White part, Joel White stood pretty darned well on his own two feet. Sadly at this point this boat is a little bit overpriced, and it won’t do it any good to sit out of water for years.

I'm pretty certain I gave Joel White a lot of praise! He was a master! But, more importantly, I was in book publishing for a number of years, most recently children's book publishing, so the EB angle was very cool to me, and for those folks from away, they might not know the connection. All part of the boat's history - which I find interesting! Thanks for watching!

Not sure if you caught it or not, but there is a snippet of her under sail near the end, but from onboard. But you can get a sense of her. Wish we had more! Thanks for tuning in and commenting!
