The story begins with a mysterious alligator lizard that showed up in my home admiring my gecko terrariums from the comforts of a sofa. Who would have known that there was a twist to this story that would lead to a much longer time caring for the curious and outgoing Southern Alligator Lizard.

As someone who keeps and breeds Alligator Lizards (e.g.: Texas, Madrean and yes, Southern California species), this was a very cool story :)

Hello neighbor, so glad to know there are fellow reptile lovers. I have a baby I found a month ago and its doing so well. I keep finding them and releasing them but this one I found on a sad day ( my dad passed on that day) so Im keeping it. An alligator lizard was my first real ever pet ( many decades ago) I have an Abronia Graminae and 2 anoles. Id love to know where that part of Aliso creek that is. I walk about 7-9 miles a day and never seen that part. I love the creek. Its made me so happy in the last few years of hardships. Thank you for this video

I would have maybe kept one to raise, but I already have too many pets already. Yes, the way the one lizard crawled up me showed how comfortable and unafraid they were to me. I still wonder how many of them have survived to adulthood and how they are doing.

Well just found a real small baby alligator lizard near my waterfall, I live near the cajon area of Cali and I’ve never seen an alligator lizard before. I think I’m gonna keep it since it’s so small and most likely not best suited for this area of California since it’s much dryer over here

They actually are identical to yours, it must be a newborn or around that age

How often and how many crickets did they eat? I live in my shop/garage and I had a baby newborn living in here that I tried to get the first time and she got away. Later I found her on. My sweatshirt in my. Clothing hamper a few feet off the ground so that she can be in the path of my ceiling heater. This time i got her into a bin like the one you had them in but she exscaped when I was gone. A few weeks later she walked right up to me looking to be even smaller then previous 😂 hopefully she was eating good or possibly it was a different one. I just got her in an enclosure I built and she ate her first cricket and one calcium worm thing. Now she won't eat anything else so just seeing if that's normal she ended up curling up under a hide longer then usual so hoping she's ok. Thanks for any info!

They should be fed at least three times a week. They need to be fed the appropriate sized insects, typically nothing larger than the size of their head. If an alligator lizard isn’t eating, it’s possible that the temperature of its enclosure is not warm enough. Since they are cold blooded, their bodies do not have the energy to digest food if the ambient temperature is too cold, so they refuse to eat.
